Tomorrow marks a momentous occasion...a new Renaissance Faire opens!

Why am I so excited about this, even though I'm stuck in the wrong part of the country? Because tomorrow marks a momentous occasion for me, as well, since I will be a vendor at said Faire! Or, perhaps I should say that b_r_c will be, since that's my art-gallery identity on LJ (I just never got around to joining all the communities under that name). I won't be able to be there (o, woe!), but some of my jewelry will be. This marks the first time that my silverwork is available to the general public, since up until this point, I have been working purely on a custom-commission basis. I am very, very excited...and very, very anxious. Ok, petrified. But giddy, too. Basically, my brain is a blendered mix of several flavors of adrenaline.

It's an amazing opportunity for me, a heck of a testing ground for my business, and potentially a tiny flash of light at the end of a long, dark financial tunnel, for my family. Or, it could be a disaster. **GULP** I'm trying to keep my thoughts focused on wild n' crazy hopes for selling out, garnering a lot of commissions, and spreading my wonderful reputation. Right now, I'd just appreciate any good thoughts you could send my way. "Focused" is not really a good word for me right now...though I'm closer to that, than "calm" or "confidant" or anything nice and peaceful like that. Heheh.

Money and time worked against my sending more, but I still managed to send a decent amount....

For a preview of the work that I sent, look under here. Be warned, this is VERY image heavy... )

Thanks to any who brave loading time to take a look and let me know what you think. And, if any of you are into the Rennie, goth, fetish, or fantasy scenes, and you're not too far from lower NJ, you might want to check out the faire itself. There are over 100 vendors, I think, so lots of crafty goodness to be found and learned from.

No, mods, I earn nothing for saying that. Since it's a new event, I figure people might just be interested in knowing.

i looked through the memories section as much as i could, but couldn't seem to find the specific help i was looking for... lj-cut to protect craft boys who may not want to know all these details...

I made this little blanket and hat for a friend who is having a new baby! Her nursery is in Hello Kitty so I thought these would go well. :D

[Poll #670579]

I'm thinking of starting my own business, but I'm just playing around with the prices. Some people would pay less and some more, so what would you be willing to pay?

edit: I am so sick of LJ not doing what I pay for, some reason the poll is not working, so if you would so kindly leave a comment :)

i got bored last night and decided to play with some handdyed wool (oh the wonders of kool-aid). I made a three layered hotpad, then decorated it with white yarn embroidery.

i just folded it over itself twice and then crocheted round the edges to hold it shut. took about 50 minutes, the longest part of which was the embroidery. i tested it on a freash from the oven cassarole dish, and it worked fine, actually let loose a nice warm fruity smell.

So I made the coolest earrings in the world the other day. Which is only appropriate since I was using the coolest beads in the world. Seriously, I had never seen beads like this before. Even my grandpa was like 'those are neat'.

These are some earrings I whipped up last night as an alternative to vintage fabric buttons. Enjoy!

It's taken me this long.... but thanks to everyone's kind words last time, I was motivated to play around with some more of my vintage fabric stash. More bracelets!

Yes, only four... but I do love these so. All but the green one are honest-to-goodness vintage, circa 1970-something, and the one with the fantastic paisley has a 1950-something Lucite button! The green one is maybe my favorite of this bunch; it's repro vintage, with adorable little salt & pepper shakers all over, and I love how the red ruffle looks. Cute!

There are more in the making, and I'm working on adding more lace and embellishments, maybe even some embroidery. Mostly, I've been attempting to draft a new pattern for my love's v-day (and, um, xmas) present, and nothing I'm coming up with is quite satisfying. But even if that fails, I do have another suprise in the works that, if it goes right, will even impress me.... A blueberry & white chocolate cheesecake with toasted almonds sure better tell that boy I love him! ;D

and I don't know if I showed you these already? )

The flower fabric was, I think, a sheet or part of a duvet at one point. I found it at the Salvation army, along with the lace scarf, which could have also doubled for a table runner. The button was from a jar of vintage buttons my mom has. This pillow was probably $0.50 in total. :)

Ahh HELP! lol Ok I know this isn't exactly a craft-related question, but I'm hoping perhaps from doing crafts someone can help answer my question. I have a pair of suede bowling shoes that had been in storage but ended up getting wet and are now moldy. Does ANYONE know how to clean leather? I'm afraid to wet them, because suede gets water spots. And I cant throw them in the washer cuz...I'm sure it would ruin them. What do I do?? I dont want my feet to get a fungus or something lol.

warning: dumb question.

Um, ok, does paper burn on a light bulb? Or, is there a certain light I should use? I'm thinking about making a new hanging light for my room, and I sort of have an idea of putting lots of pieces of paper very close to the light bulb (if not touching it).
will this cause my room and entire house to burn down? Because, my landlord is a dick and would toooootally blame me for it.

I have a question. I semi-recently knitted a hat for my ex-bf's mom (a little weird, I know, but when we were dating I was very close with his family, and I wanted to give her a - very belated - xmas present). It came out too big so I'm gonna redo it, but my problem is this: I find the yarn slightly too itchy to wear against skin. Is there any way to soften yarn? I don't know exactly what kind of yarn it is... I made a scarf for my mom out of the same kind of yarn but a different colour and I noticed it was itchy so I soaked it in water and fabric softener for a few hours. It came out a bit softer (and smelled soooo good) but I still wasn't satisfied. Is there something specific I can use to make yarn softer, or at least not so itchy? Would hair conditioner work? And since I have to remake the hat anyway, is it better to soak the yarn before knitting, or make it and then soak the hat itself? Is it even possible to soften yarn?

thanks for your help :)
