Hello:)
that`s my first post here and my 1st crochetted stuff...

I made these mittens this weekend, using this tutorial =)
It was not too difficult, but I suppose they are cute*))

i live very close to a harbor, and beachcombing is a favorite pasttime. i often find toys washed up in the tideline. last weekend, my boyfriend and his brother went for a walk without me and brought me home this toy soldier. this weekend, i mounted him on cardboard and made a little artpiece out of him.

i kept the image a bit large so the words could be discerned, so i'm putting it under a cut. )

Alright, craft girls, I need some help brainstorming.

I'm meeting with a man tomorrow who wants to make a
giant origami zoo
for the city arts festival this summer.

Now, I have been puzzling over this all day... what materials would you use to make something GIGANTIC via origami? (This will also be outdoors, although I don't imagine that whatever it is needs to be completely waterproof or anything...) So far I have very few ideas... except for possibly making a patchwork of tons and tons of smaller pieces of paper (which would still be cool). Maybe someone knows of something construction-related or the like that I am unaware of?

Also, does anyone have any input on good animal models to use? I think there should be traditional models, and then lots of outlandish things too.

Thanks, sorry for the text-only but I do promise you pictures of any giant origami endeavors that follow this post. ;)

Okay, so my hubby carries a man-purse ;)

He takes TONS of shit with him to work. I've asked him several times why he doesn't er, LEAVE it there...but he doesn't know. *shakes head*

So he carries a target bag (the plastic ones I mean) and uses it to carry his books, meds (the boy takes more pills....) lunch...etc.
Generally he carries it with the handles wrapped around the body of whatever he's carrying it, but occasionally sticks his arm through and carries it on his lower arm.

The nasty plastic bag looks so...TRASHY. I hate it.
Plus, I hate having plastic around anyways.

He's finially consented that I can make him a bag to replace it, but has NO idea what he wants.
I said "long handles or short??" (i dunno)...."big or small?" (Idunno)

*screams*

I'm thinking a simple tote of some kind with shorter handles that will funtion the same, probably out of some funky star wars farbic ;)

Anyone who has any suggestions or pattern help??

Yea, I posted this last night... but!

Looky, a nifty person actually brightened the pictures for me so you can see what I did this time!

These are cloche hats. The lovely lady in the purple one is apparently named Marnie and she has a website with a pattern on it. Unfortunetly for me it is a knitting pattern. And I do not know how to knit. So do any of you lovely ladies, or gentlemen readers know how to sew one of these? I have a cute short bob and have always loved the look of that era. I would really appreciate any help.

O yea... and to give props where props are due... here is marnie's website...

I want to learn how to spin roving and fibers into yarn. Does anyone have any tips for me? I've been looking at spindles and I am not sure what the advantages/disadvantages of top spinning vs. bottom spinning drop spinners.....

Any tips?

Thanks!

After reading so much about people using Mod Podge to decoupage with, I went out and bought some. I had this awesome idea, and I took a pair of black ugly looking heels, and magazine clippings and completely redid them. Yay!
But theres a problem. While the clippings are all staying glued together pretty well, in certain parts, they're starting to lift up off of the material on the shoes. I've put a few coats over them and have tried to stick it all back down as well as I can, but it just wont stay!
Is there anything I can use on top of it at all to fix the problem? I'd love to actually wear these (I live in texas so the water factor isn't really a problem). Im thinking maybe I should have sanded the shoes or something before hand, but I don't want to have to peel everything all the way off and redo them after all my hard work. I spent like 5-6 hours all together cutting things out of magazines and glueing them on.
So what can I do to make it all stay put?!

i took up jewelry making classes three years ago at the ayala museum and this was one of the first few pieces that i made. at that time semi precious stones were the "in" thing. because i couldnt afford it, i stuck to my glass, plastic and ceramic. but i really thought they were pretty and it is one of the very pieces i wear to this day.

Tiny Journal I made today. I won't be using it for awhile but still it was fun.
Thanks to Bob dylan for the inspiration. And target and michaels for supplying me with materials.
The Lp idea came after about 20 or more minutes of anger dealing with a old hardcover book cover.
input would be nice. I know it isn't THAT original.

I just used a old cover.
12x12 paper from michaels that I bought for .59
glue:)
green polka dot ribbon from michaels ($1.99)
multi colored ink pad
Stamps
Hole punch
"Sherbert" card stock from target 6x6 ($4.99)
"Typewriter" stickers from Michaels ($2.99 I think)

So, I plan on baking cookies for a part in my chemistry class on Friday. I've already got a recipe for sugar cookies and rolled buttercream icing (in case anyone wants the recipes), but I don't really have any ideas for the shape of the cookies themselves. I definitely want to do something chemistry-related, though. I know there are tons of ideas, but I can't seem to come up with any! (I already made the periodic table cookies for the last party, which went over quite well.)

One idea that I got was to make beakers and I'd pipe on the measurement lines with more icing, but you guys can probably think of really great ones, since you're all so creative :) And I'm sure there are chemistry lovers out there who can help! I promise to take pictures of whatever I bake and show you guys, if that motivates you any more...?

Thanks in advance!

Been working on something new and thought it was well enough along to post some pictures, this is my first ever art doll and I think he turned out pretty cool. He is 11 inches tall and made out of stuffed muslin that I painted in a summer tree design. His face is made out of clay and also handpainted, he has a green heart on his chest and hair that is a mossy green with brown and purple streaked in it and he has a crown with leaves in it for his head. Tied around his hair is a birds nest with eggs that I made out of clay. I am also making a wood staff for him to cary.

I was really nervous as to how he would turn out but it turned out better than I anticipated. I included a couple of pictures and I had Lee upload more to the website linked below so that if your curious to see more pics you can, the website has pics of his back, the birds nest and a few more of the front of him :).

Okay, I'm having a problem.

I'm trying to do a single crochet. I can do the chain stitch, no problem.

So I put the hook through the v's, and then I wrap the yarn around it. Then, I pull it through a loop. Do I do this once, or twice? Like I wrap it around, pull it through the first loop, then do I do it again, or no? The exact instructions I am reading say:

Insert the hook in the second chain stitch through the center of the V bring the yarn over.

Ok, got that.

Then, it says draw the yarn over through the chain stitch and onto the hook. Again, bring yarn over the hook from back to forn and draw it though both loops of the hook.

What what what??? Do this makes me think, I kind of do it twice...if that makes sense. And then at the end of the row, I'm supposed to do a chain stitch, correct? I'm sorry for all the questions, it's just like every book I look in is different, and I'm getting frusterated. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance!!!

Hello ladies and gents,

I posted this question to [livejournal.com profile] sew_hip a little while ago [original post here], and I was told I could get a good bit of advice from all of you also. Here's the copy/paste cross-post:

I've been lurking a while (as I'm sure most people do) and now I finally have a question that I do not feel has ever been answered well enough -- not in here or at the Craftster forums.

I have a few projects in mind that require stencils and that "spray paint went around the edges of the stencil" look. I have worked with stencils on fabric before, with acrylic paint, sponge-brushes, textile medium, and all of that.

But, I have zero experience with spray-painting fabric. What kind/brand of paint works best? What do I do to prime the fabric? When it's done, I need to set it or put a kind of sealant on it to prevent cracking or peeling? I plan on working with metallic spray paint also -- any special advice for that? How about for layering two different colors?

I need all the advice this community can throw at me. Thanks in advance! :)

Anyone?

I was vending at a rat show held by the local club selling magnets, and sculpted and painted pins.

Cut with pics to be NICE! )

I made some cookies for a friend who's been out sick. The pictures are rather large and shite quality, as they were shot in really bad lighting, so they're under the cut. Also, sorry for making two posts in such a short amount of time; if I should add this to my earlier post, just comment and tell me and it will be done!

And here they are! )
