Is there such a thing that I can buy that you add to resin molds to release your project more easily from the mold afterwards? Resin release? If there is such a thing, where can I get some?

Hey everyone.
I made soap for the first time the other day with my Mom. (The Melt and Pour way.)
See...

We had fun and like the way they turned out so we hope to make more in the future. Perhaps even make them from scratch.
But for now, I have a couple questions.
I've looked through the FAQ but couldn't find my answers. :(

I got a book from the lib that had a lot of good recipies. Most of the fruit/veggie soaps call for benzoin--a preservative. The recipes call for cucumbers or lemons and I don't want them to get all... yucky. How important is the benzoin? Can I get away with not using it? Or replace it with something else? If not, where could I buy some online?

I'd also like to get into making shampoo. The book has some recipes but they aren't animal friendly. Does anyone have any animal friendly shampoo recipes?

Thanks a bunch. :)

After oooohing and aaaaaahing over some of the quilting blogs I've seen, I finally made my first quilted thing ever! It's not fancy at all --the fabric was pinked and sewn on in layers (instead of pieced and sewn), and it's tied with red embroidery floss instead of quilted-- but I love it. The top is a bunch of thrifted vintage fabrics (70's polyester, anyone?), and it's backed and lined with recycled fabric (an old fitted sheet) that (almost) matches the yellow plaid perfectly. Instead of batting, I used double layers of recycled jersey knit (old tees); this has to be the heaviest pillowcase ever!

And even though this picture was taken latelatelate at night (you can see the time on my ghetto clock) and the lighting is horrible and it's a little blurry, it's very important to me already because it has both of my favorite boys in it. The one on the right isn't a kitten (he's almost two!), he's just tiny; the one on the left is my old man (nineteen this year!) whom I've had since I was six. I ♥♥♥ them both.

Between downloading soil maps of South America and researching Coca Plant prefs. for a paper due on Thursday, I made a painting.

Since I'm super broke right now, I bought 6 8*10 canvasses from Dollarama and glued them together (if I didn't have a hot glue gun, I think I'd probably cry) to form a 24*20" canvas. Then, with the super cheap paint I bought from Dollarama, as well as the paints I already own, I did 'er up.

Cheerio!

hi, i'm a first-time poster but long-time lurker. i absolutely adore how creative all of you are! so i thought i' d share a few things i' ve finished last night.

I had a pretty productive Saturday ;) I've been wanting to make a Trumpy shirt for a while, & finally got a cheap shirt to put it on. Trumpy is an alien from the MST3K movie "Pod People", which is my favorite.

Also, I just got about 17+" of hair chopped off (see above pic of the new cut), and I love wearing my dangly earrings with the new hair cut. There were a few colors I still needed, so I whipped up four new pairs.

Hey everyone, I have a question.
I've been breaking a lot of needles lately. i'm not too familiar yet with needle size/number vs weight yet..i do use jean needles when sewing through jeans (heh) or heavier upholstry fabric...
but when sewing through double/triple layers of fleece or a thicker cotton weave..I am breaking needles..or bending them severely..and they bend forward towards me..it is strange (to me)

so my question, am i using needles that are too light? or could it be a machine issue? i find it happens most when i am going through a couple layers (like a rolled hem for example) and i usually just go through those parts slowly, turning the needle by hand..but it does happen on straight-away parts of a seam...and it is really frustrating!

any insights? could this be an issue of timing or do i just need to learn the subtleties of needle size a little better?

sorry i prattled on for so long about it ^_^

i'm dyin here.. ;P

I'm having a major crisis here. Somehow, I managed to get blue permanent ink to leak onto a darling, white shirt that I love. It won't wash out at all, so I'm trying to cover it over with white fabric paint but that's not working too well, either. I'm wondering: is there anything that I could do to make this mess/stain less obvious and obnoxious, or am I stuck buying a huge brooch and trying to cover it?

Hey Guys.

I'm going to target to buy supplies for my new journal I'm making. I looked and they had hobby knives there(they looked similair to xacto). Anyway,I was thinking of using fabric and gluing it on the cover of this old book i'm going to use....But I was brain storming today and I really like these lyrics..that i'm thinking of putting on the front cover

"I'm a writer
a writer of fictions
I'm the heart that you call home
I've written pages upon pages just to rid you from my bones".

I was thinking of just using permanant marker and writing it out but it could end up looking really junky since it will be writen on fabric. Then I thought paint but that could be too taxing for me...Any other suggestions??

thanks:)

title or description

hello everyone! here are some of my most recent projects.
i seem to get into these spurts where i make a whole bunch at once,
then stop for awhile
& start again!
right now my obsession is making things which have hand embroideries on them!

sorry if the watermarks bother people, but its meant to protect my images.
with all this H&M, Urban Outfitters, etcetera stealing independent designers designs
i've become a little paranoid. it you want to learn more about the issue, i suggest you visit, urban counterfeiters.

anyway, any feedback is appreciated!

do i have to heat set each layer separately if they overlap or if one is completely on top of another or can i do it all at once and expect it to heat both/all layers equally?

I'm really proud of how my March swap for [livejournal.com profile] full_moon_swaps turned out, so I wanted to share it now that I finally have pictures up. Sadly I couldn't get better pictures before I mailed it, but I'm hoping that the girl I sent it to will have better pictures for me some time soon. XD Until, I figured I'd share these. The theme was, basically, mystical creatures. I made a 'spice rack' with special 'ingredients' that went on it. Hand painted a 'towel rack' with acrylic paints, then laquered the whole thing. I think it turned out pretty well, all in all.

Hello!
I'm hoping that someone can help me here. I recently inherited a pretty old Singer machine (if you're interested in what it looks like, then I have a few photos up in this gallery) Its a 8214, and is about 20 years old.
The problem is, I didn't get an instruction manual or any guide to how it works. Argh! However, I did manage to figure out most of it, and its been sewing fine until today (of course) when all of a sudden, there was lots of huge loops of cotton on the underside of the fabric.
By that, I mean this:
has been happening.
Please help! I have no idea about sewing machines (I hadn't been near one for about 8 years before this!) and I can't find *any* help online (I've emailed Singer with photos, but still no reply)

(p.s. I adore the stuff you guys do! You're the reason I had to get a sewing machine :))

x-posted to a few crafty comms :)

I made this today! It's Burda pattern 8102 in size 22/24 style B. It's slightly above mid-calf length. None of the pics of me wearing it came out.

I made it from a table cloth I got at the thrift store for $1.99.

I heart it!
