I was a little bored today, and found a bunch of decorative buttons and decided to make some pins. They turned out pretty awesome if you ask me! [Sorry for the crappy pictures, I'm at school and I don't have a digital so I have to use my video camera].

I’ve sewn my first ever item. It wasn’t the cheapest practice project and it took me about two days because I had to keep unstitching! It ended up a bit too stiff; I think I used an interfacing that was far too heavy, now I wish I’d just left it floppy! I’m a perfectionist so some of the stitching on this [see one of the pics] is really aggravating me, but I am not unstitching this damn thing ever again! Despite that, I can’t wait to get started on my next project :D

Any feedback or your opinions would be very much appreciated.

Questions

Couple of questions:

1. I did an iron-on using printable transfer paper for dark fabric. It turned out kind of crappy. Does anyone know what might happen if I put another iron-on over the first one?

2. How many stitch markers is a good number to make for a set of them?

Thank you!

Has anyone ever attempted to make a twisted-wire mask? I'm talking about the ones which are basically a wire skeleton, none of the papier-mache stuff involved... Like these- sorry about the link, she's really snippity about the picture source codes:P
I think they're absolutely beautiful, but I'd rather experiment and try to make my own for prom- she charges premium bridal prices, aie!

I figured someone here may be able to help me out!

So, I have a pink squishy cush pillow that I am in love with.

Last night, while sitting in bed eating stromboli, my marinara sauce decided to tip over and spill all over my favorite pillow... I'm a little heartbroken.

On the pillow it says to "spot clean only". Obviously spot cleaning wont remove marinara stains. According to the tag on the pillow, the pillow covering is made from 83% nylon, and 17% polyurethane. Then inside is stuffed with foam polystyrene beads. Would throwing it in the washer and drying on cool hurt my pillow?

I realize it may just be safer to go buy a new one, and they're not expensive to make. But, this one sorta holds some sentimental value.

Thanks for any help!

Sorry for the text only post.

I'm having a problem deciding what to do with something that has a lot of sentimental value. I figured I would ask ya'll for some advice on what to do! About 5 years ago I met my husband <333. This may be a little bit dorky but I still have the outfit I met him in. It is a purple flower printed sun dress. It doesn't fit anymore because its been 5 years but I don't want to get rid of it.

I was thinking about turning it into a pillow but I am a little crazy about things that don't match with my house. In this case, crazy purple flowers don't match at all!. Hah.

I was also thinking of making a pretty purse. I had lots of different idea's for purses. My only concern with a purse is I go through them like water. I don't want it to get thrown in a closet and forgotten about or given away.

I'm sure there are lots of other idea's and thats where I need your help!

Have any of you lovely ladies ever upholstered a headboard? I have some fantastic microsuede in my drawer that I've been waiting to use for this purpose for awhile now...

I've looked at some general DIY pages online but haven't come across anything particularly inspiring...I'm looking for some tips and tricks from someone who has done this! Thanks :)

before i start my story: this is the first thing i've sewn from a pattern all by myself (without my fashion teacher within easy distance)

so, yeah, yesterday i ventured to fabricland cause my mom won a 38$ gift certificate (fabriclands 38th aniversary thingy) and she said i could have it (go figure, she doesnt sew) i bought some SWEET batman print fabric, and a Burda skirt pattern (8250) measured myself and everything and started cutting tonight.
the thing that made me go AUGH! NO WAY! BURN IN HELL STUPID SKIRT! and other such things; i cut the wrong size. and not just any wrong size, one size to small...
there is a zipper in one of the side seams, so i dont think i can let that one out much, if anything, and the other is 5/8s of an inch...
there are ruffle-y things (2 layers and then one of tulle) which i dont think will cause a problem, cause i can just scrunch them less. but the part that actually covers my butt, how should i go about letting that out?
i've thought of a few ideas:
1) cutting a small piece from "scrap" (which i have over 2 meters of cause it was buy 1m get 2m free)
2) letting it out as far as possible, and jsut wear it higher up at my skinniest part
3) lose an inch off my waist...
PLEASE HELP!

I could use some creative ideas, so if anyone wants to help?
I decided to make my mom a scrapbook for het birthday. But I don't really know what to put in it.. I thought of a page with pictures of my brother and I, one of my dad, one of her friends, one of Robbie Williams (She likes Robbie Williams).. But that's where my creativity stops :( I don't know what else to put in or what to write on the pages and stuff..
I hope this all makes sense.
Anyone that has ideas?

Hey girls, I really want to make one of those quilts that are made out of old t-shirts. I am fine sewing the t-shirt fronts together but I am unsure of how to do the under lining and the batting part.

I am wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a good tutorial!

Thanks so much in advance for any help!!!

First post, and I'm so in awe of most of the stuff I see here!

I was looking for an iPod cover/case pattern for the model of iPod I have (30GB), but didn't find any, so I ended up making my own last night. It's a really simple design, but it seems to work. I used some fleece-type fabric for mine--I think it needs something snazzy for the front, but otherwise it's basically done. Took less than an hour to put together.

not-so-great photos here. )

I made a basic pattern for this--you can see where the iPod goes if you want to make sure the pocket's the right size before you start sewing. For the straps on the back, I just sewed two rectangles of fabric at the top and the bottom for elastic bands to go through, and self-adhesive velcro also seems to work for holding the straps on, which is handy. :)

Do you remember on Friends how Monica and Rachel had curtains underneath their kitchen sink rather than doors? I liked the look so I made some curtains for underneath my bathroom sink. I bought a short tension rod and 1/2 yard of bamboo fabric. I only used about 1/4 of a yard for the curtains.

Also, a tip on storing your bobbins that I read in the latest issue of Sew News: keep them in toe separators.

i haven't posted here in a while, so here are some knee socks i finished recently.
pattern: pippi knee stockings from the first stitch n bitch
yarn: self striping opal sock yarn in color rodeo 1157
needles:size 3 dpn
modifications: none, really. other than i didn't use elastic for the top ribbed section because i didn't have to. but, now they don't like to stay up, so i probably should have.

that's all i've got, hope you like :)

and if this picture should go under a cut let me know and I'll fix it
