Hi I just got a bead loom and I can't figure out how to thread it the instructions are not very clear. Also every time I tighten the loom the spools (at the front and back) pop out I'm guessing thats NOT normal but I can't figure out how to keep them from popping out below is a pic of the loom any help is very much appreciated :D

Ok I've solved the spool popping out problem by adding arubber band to each side going from the end of the long screw to the other end (at the side) this sounds confusing but it works really well :) I'm one huge step closer to getting the hang of this thing.

*EDIT*
AND now I've got it all threaded and am finally getting the hang of it :D thank you to everyone who helped :)

So, if you've picked up on it at all, I love earrings --making em, wearing em, everything! So I was trying to think of creative, pretty ways to store earrings. I tried the mesh/frame thing, but I grab my earrings too quickly and end up knocking it over, especially since it's cluttered with all of the earrings anyway. So I thought this would be neat.

Steal this idea -- Simply take some sturdy wire (green metallic, black, silver, gold, white . .really, you pick!) and curl little loops into it, in pairs. Bend the wire into whatever shape and stick them into a vase.

note: I've yet to figure out how to keep them sturdy . .I could use some ideas if you try this out. Floral foam wouldn't be pretty in a glass vase. Weights? Wrap the wires together? Not sure. Goodluck!

Hey guys! This is an account that will be shared by me, Carrie, and my friend Molly. We've been lurking for a while now, and I decided to take pictures of the things I have made since we have been out for the summer.

Let's see if I can get the cut to work on the first try... )

Hopefully Molly and I will become regular posters! :-)

I'm so excited about these little guys! I made their tags by hand as well.

PS: Thank you guys for all of your sweet words! I really like knowing I made some people smile today.

Crafters... I was hoping you could help. I was wondering if anyone could suggest to me a way to get the same kind of glittery finish Dita uses on her props. I was thinking base coat paint, heavy glitter, and then a clear top coat varnish. But I am not sure. Here are some photos of her props. They are the highest quality I could find -- click on the thumbnails for full photo. Thank you.

I´m thinking about making my own version of Catarina Larsson´s very beautiful but also expensive (around 300 dollars) hanging lamp "Nightfly":

nightfly

Have the basics figured out but I´m still unsure about what kind of cloth to use. It must be rather stiff or I have to use starch, and I don´t know if that would be safe... Suggestions?

My manfriend's birthday was a couple weeks ago. In addition to the things I bought for him, he also got the required crafty presents.

He's kind of obsessed with the Mythbusters. He gets all giddy about rockets and explosions, and he reminds me of a teenage girl with a crush when he always insists on using their first and last names when talking about them. Even if it wasn't his birthday, he still would have deserved some Mythbuster-y goodness for putting up with my new Gilmore Girls episodes that came on at the same time as his new Mythbusters episodes there for a while. ^_^

I baked him a cake!

Well there's your problem. )

In addition to being madly in love with eachother, we're also madly in love with garden gnomes. So I spent many a'latenight working on these two little Jeremy-Stacy gnomes.

Individual gnomey shots. )

They're a few inches high. I tried to keep them fairly accurate to the scale of how big a gnome is supposed to be. They're solid polymer clay, except for the hats which are filled with aluminum foil. (I didn't want them to be too heavy and tip over.) Handpainted and detailed. If you look closely, the little button on gnome Jeremy's tool pouch is in the shape of a heart. My only regret is that I used a gloss finish when they probably would have looked better with a matte. I didn't think of this until after they were dry.

In any case, he was pleased ).

(I can put the second set of pictures behind a cut if it's not ok to post two pictures. I just didn't want them to look overshadowed by the cake.)

I made some jewelry...

I call these the ice cube earrings because...well, that's what they look like. Dur. Tiny clear ice cubes. It's actually tumbled quartz chips.

Tiny pendants, also gemstone chips.

Both are approximately around an inch long. The orange is amber and tiger eyes. I think the other is amethyst, and i'm not sure what the pink is. It's a little too dark for rose quartz. Meh, I'll call it Mystery Stone.

I actually had a lot of gemstone chips that a friend had given me while cleaning out her jewelry supplies. I finally got sick of them taking up space, so I made things. Now they're taking up space, but in jewelry form.
:)
And of course, only like 3 of them are anything I'd actually wear.
I'll scan the others once I get the clasps and things put on.

We cleaned out a bunch of software CDs at work, and I got to take them home for craftyness! I put them on my wall.

And the best part? We just did it AGAIN, so I have even more!!
Actually, I think I may have posted the CD wall here already, but I'm not sure. If I did, Forgive me, it's been a long day.

I posted the tuxedo shirt my SO and I dyed for our prom a while back, and people were asking for photos of the shirt in action. Unfortunately my scanner seems to have committed ritual suicide, but I grabbed this admittedly wonky-quality group picture from a friend's journal:D

ACTION!
Chris is the 4th from the left, you can just see the shirt poking out:) I'm the second from the left, next to the guy in the blue suit who seems to have no pupils

I'm in an organization called the Holistic Moms Network (www.holisticmoms.org) and my one of the events that my chapter(Charleston County, SC) does is have potluck theme dinners every month... Well, the previous few months, I've been too busy to get around to making anything cool to wear, but I felt especially motivated this month, so I made a shirt for the dinner this Saturday! Our theme (because we really are that cool, haha) is "Memoirs of a Holistic Geisha" haha...

I used a tutorial that I'm sure I found while clicking around from something on here...but here's a link to it: http://www.deborahmerlo.com/diy/archives/000095.html

I thought I'd share a few pics of the finished product:

Keep in mind, I have a 13 month old boy and a 5 month old puppy to keep after while I do my sewing, so there's no ironing/pinning/anything else that could be dangerous to them to be done. Plus, I didn't have the means before Saturday to go out and get the cool asian-inspired silky fabric that was used in the tutorial, so I used a some black fabric and a red table cloth that I had lying around...haha... So anyway... The best I could do with what I had, haha )

I have been wanting to buy a cheap button maker for ages and i might buy the bandai one but i really want one for fabric buttons not paper ones and i was just wondering if the bandai button maker could actually do fabric buttons. If they dont work does anyone know of a cheap button maker which could make fabric buttons?

:)
