Sorry for the text only....I have a question for you lovely folks.

So, I just moved into a new apt, and there are these HIDEOUS end tables in the livingroom. I'm too poor to just randomly buy new ones...plus I love the shape of them....so rather than get rid of them, I was thinking of painting them.

Since most of the furniture in my apt is black wood, I thought I'd spray paint them black and then maybe laquer (sp?) them so they have a bit of a sheen. (I think if they were totally matte they'd look a little less "finished")

So my question - I've never bought spray paint in my life. Yes, I'm lame but I've never needed to. Is there a special kind of spray paint I should get to paint on wood? Can I just get any old can of black paint, or is there something I should be looking out for?

I just don't want to ruin the pieces. I'd just use regular paint, but I'd think that spray paint would go on smoother. Anyway, if you guys have any tips, please help me out!

leather purse. about 7 inches tall. no pattern, but based off those insulated lunch bags.
mostly for going to shows (sick of being searched with my normal bag) and keeping my wallet safe while traveling rather than have it floating around in my backpack.

the proportions are better in real life.

I am dying for a pair of argyle tights but being super tall (6'1") they are impossible to find.. so I have opted to make my own. Has anyone ever made their own tights or pantyhose etc? Any advice at all would be great ... google is not helpful.

A while back I bought a used bellydance costume on Bhuz (a bellydance message board) only to realize how much I passionately hated how the skirt looked on me, but I loved the fit of the bra. In fact I think the fact that the bra looked like a good fit was why I bought it.... for a while it sat in my closet, I'd put it on every once in a while to talk myself into liking it...no go. The jeweled crotch, the cut of the skirt, the fact that I needed to let the elastic out about 2 cm so it wouldn't be unflattering...nope. So it was time to bring in the craft savvy!

A few weeks ago I took scissors to the skirt and turned the skirt into a bedlah belt. It seemed like an easier solution than looking for an overseas buyer, and my summer schedule is light..

Spent yesterday making some more paper. I`ve given up on the idea of using it for stationery. Any other ideas as to what I could use it for?

Last night and tonight I made a few jewelry sets and a necklace using Green Girl Studios beads/pendants I got at fusionbeads.com. They came out pretty well, if I do say so myself. :)

What are everyone's opinions on Lion Brand's Chenille Thick & Quick yarn? I was in the middle of a stitch today when the yarn just snapped. Luckily I was only a few rows into practice knitting but I'm wondering if I should be hesititant to use it for something important in case it tends to snap on a regular basis. Anyone love it or hate it or have any other kinds of problems with it?

Om Mirror.

I rescued this mirror from the neighbor's remodeling waste pile and etched it with "Om Mane Padme Um" across the top and the Awakening Lotus across the bottom.

Hey, I'm hoping there's some knitters out there who can help me.

I have a project that calls for a ball of "Schachenmayr Speed". I know a decent equivalent would probably bee a number 5 "bulky" yarn, but I don't know how *much* is in one ball of "Schachenmayr Speed". Does anyone know the weight or yardage? Is there somewhere I can find out?

This is the pattern I'd like to use:

But, I need cheaper, easier to find, and easy to wash yarn, since I intend to do a number of them for our area shelter.

I'm running out of places in my apartment that the cats can't reach and I'd like to hang a couple of my plants. The only problem is that I have no plant hangers and don't want macrame and can't crochet.

Does anybody have any ideas or simple designs / patterns that I could use to make a couple of easy-to-assemble and funky plant hangers?

I made this blanket for my kitten so he would let me give another one to its intended recipient.

i have a question for all of you:

im sure youre all familiar with the pictures you take when youre 10 years old that youre taking just because you have a disposable camera or some other shitty camera and youre taking pictures of your house and your pets and just....STUFF that you really dont need pictures of but because youre 10 years old, you think its important to always remember that "OMG TODAY MY DOG LAYED DOWN LIKE THIS!" and stuff.

okay. so im going through all my pictures and i have a bunch of pictures like that of things i dont really need pictures of...theres a lot of my dogs/cats, but other than that, its a bunch of really random pictures that i have. anybody have any ideas what i can do with these pictures i dont really want other than throw them away? if they get destroyed in the process, its okay, they dont mean too much and im going to throw them away anyway, but i thought there might be something crafty i could do with them instead. any ideas would be welcomed.

and i went to the bahamas this summer, and i brought a piece of the bahamas ) home with me!

I found a great website that shows you how to make your own display from cardboard here (created by Bea Graansma). It also has many other amazing tips for displays, packaging, photography, and more. Here are a couple of the displays that I made myself:
