I am desperate to find some fabric. I'm going my bedroom at my new apartment in one of the following color schemes:

Black and Blue

Black and Pink

Black and Red

I have a (not so) secret obsession with cherry blossoms and I want to find fabrics similar to the following ones. The price doesn't matter, though the cheaper the better. I've tried ebay, etsy, and googling it, but haven't found much luck. I'm going to be using the fabric to make a duvet cover, so I need at least 8 - 10 yards of it for the top of the cover, and matching pillow shams. I'd really prefer to find the fabric either online, or be able to order it to Joann's, Michael's, Wal-Mart, or Hancock. I'll give you my boyfriends silly cat if you find these fabrics for me!!! ::begs::

ESPECIALLY the first and second one.

I'm sorry if you are on my friends list and have seen this.

We bought a condo, our first home and we haven't had a dining room table in a very long time. We were also limited on how much money we had because home ownership is not cheap.

We went to the UNC surplus and noticed they had all these huge doors in the back and they were cheap. We paid 10 dollars and had picked it up the day we were moving to our new place so we could use the uHaul being this door is super huge and super heavy. We then went to our local Lowes and bought metal pipe, flanges and caps. A bottle of rubber coating *which is some seriously cool stuff*. Then back home to assemble the monster.

Ended up we bought legs way too long. We should have measured first so after 3 trips back to the store we got the right size (well close enough to it)

This is the over all table, it's up on spacers because we did not have time to do it correctly before thanksgiving and jack the table up the correct height of 28 inches.

More this way... )

I've been lurking for some time in this group but this is my first post.  Finding time to craft can be challenging sometimes!  Anyway, I've been working at mass-producing Christmas gift bags for my GINORMOUS family!  Everything included is either made/altered, home-grown or home-baked.  Here's the general package:  Home-grown tea, home-baked biscotti, and a homemade little collage with a poem transcribed onto it:

In the tin is 5 teabags of the sort you seal shut with your iron - I grew the tea in my garden.  In the plastic bag are about the same number of biscotti - boy I'm tired from baking!  The collage is pretty self-explanatory - I got a pound of scrapbooking scraps for $1.00 and went to town.  Collecting 25 poems took a while though - no two are the same.  But a good poem with some good tea and a biscuit = priceless.

After I ship these out this weekend, I have a tree skirt, a big collage for my niece, and a tablecloth for my sister to make.  Holiday fun!

cling art

Hey you guys, I'm sorry for the text only but a few months ago I found www.popcling.com they do artwork out of the static cling vinyl. You know, the kind that sticks to the walls with static electicity. Well, they used to have these cool collections of room decoartions, like flowers and polka dots and the like, but they don't seem to offer them any more. So I'm trying to figure out if I can make them myself, but I have no idea where to get the static cling vinyl, or how much it costs...does anyone know?

I have a new sewing machine. I can even thread the bobbin! And sew an (almost) straight line. But other than that, I really don't know how to use the darn thing. I bought a book on learning to sew, but it makes it all look way too complicated. I need something, dare I say, dumbed down.

Are there any really easy intructional websites out there, for a simple, beginner project? I have some fat quarters and I'm itching to make something, just to get started. What was your first project?

wholesale

Any of you ever sold your items wholesale? Even if you haven't, input would be nice. I'm trying to think of a fair rate.

I'm not talking about to big industries, but to small shops and the like.
What would be your minimum amount of items/cost for a wholesale discount?
What kind of discounts would you give?
Say for instance, ten items regular price would cost $100, what would you charge wholesale? or even setting up a plan, like for every X amount of items you get $Y dollars off.

My materials are fairly inexpensive.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Text only (boo):

My mom just had ankle surgery and in a cast up to her knee, and will be staying with me for a week so she's not alone in the house, since she's all gimpy.

I have no cable, so I can't turn her into a couch potato with mindless distraction while I'm at work during the day. What would be your Must-Have fun things or projects (that can be done sitting down) to prevent some major cabin fever, once the DVD's ran out and looking at another book would make you scream?

so the craftmas season has officially begun and i am swamping myself with projects. questions for the rest of you:

1) what are you making the most of this year to give to people? i'm really into the shrinky dink necklaces that are all the rage right now.
2) what are you making for your guy friends? this is so hard for me because i really don't think any of them would be into necklaces and such. I NEED IDEAS DESPERATELY.

I picked up 200 plates from IKEA (white), and would like to use Lazertran Transfer Paper on them. Has anyone used this before?
Here's the link to the paper: http://www.lazertran.com/products/lazertran_products_inkjet.htm

Or would anyone have a suggestion as to what I might seal the plates with to make them food safe once I have applied the transfer to them?

Hi there!

I only post once in a blue moon, so I might seem like a newcomer but I've been lurking and admiring everyone's beautiful work for years! :)

I mostly crochet, but my boyfriend recently bought me an adorable little sewing machine, just like this one and it works like a charm so I decided to take on a sewing project. I wanted some X-mas stockings and couldn't find anything that really fit my style so I went fabric shopping. I chose a giant houndstooth pattern with a black velvet cuff. My boyfriend went for  the flocked brown design with a brown fur cuff. He said it reminded him of the wallpaper inside Disney's haunted mansion, heh.

Pics )

I didn't use a pattern so they're a little sloppy, but they'll do the job. That little sewing machine definitely has its limitations but it's a good starter machine. I do plan on upgrading to more heavy duty machine in the future.

Can anybody recommend a good sewing machine that isn't very complicated?
Thanks
-Dinah

My name is Melody Kramer and I am a web producer at National Public Radio. This month, we are producing a "do-it-yourself" holiday feature and asking our readers to send in pictures of their homemade menorahs and Christmas ornaments. We will feature the best on our Web site, www.npr.org. The winner in each category will receive a prize from the NPR gift shop. We are especially looking for quirky, funny and/or offbeat designs, and/or designs that mention news items from 2006.

For example:
*A Mel Gibson menorah
*A global warming Christmas ornament
*A red state /blue state ornament

We'd like to ask our readers to post the pictures on Flickr.com with the tag word: NPRHOLIDAYCONTEST. We will feature the best designs in the coming weeks, and also link to individual websites, if the designs are selected.

If you have any questions, please feel to contact me at mkramer@npr.org. Also, feel free to send this message to any creative individuals who may want to participate in our contest.

A note: a menorah design must conform to Jewish law and also be capable of safely supporting nine lit candles. The deadline for this contest is December 11, 2006.

Happy Holidays!

I made a skirt out of this fabric I've had laying around forever that I've been using to practice on.
I made this without a pattern just to see if my idea would work (and, might I add, the worst scissors known to mankind.)
peachy skirt. )

Okay so i was thinking about adding a bow applique to my tshirt. Thing is IDK how i would go about all the different parts. I wanted the circular bit in the middle to be different fabrics.

someone asked me one day "What kind of craft do you not do?" the only thing I could think of was clay. I'm extremely crafty. I have a small bedroom in my house that holds all my craft supplies...well that doesn't account for the rouge supplies elsewhere in the house from projecting. I've been really interested in jewelry lately and upon the question that was basically translates in my mind "what can you not do that well?" I've begun to learn some things about clay. the first one is that bakign clay and well melting plastic can release harmful chemicals that you don't want to eat into the air...so I'm shopping for a large but inexpensive toaster oven...aka a dedicated toaster oven. What kind do ya'll suggest that works great for crafting only purposes? like cooks your clay really well and melts plastic in a constant manner.

other question revolves gin image transfers on clay. I've gotten the general idea of how to do it but my main concern in about the paper and actual place the image comes from. Will I be able to successfully transfer a magazine image onto clay using the gin transfer technique. I figure since the image it on the surface of the paper verse intertwined w the fibers then it should transfer well. So, I ask you crafty ladies for your advice on my crafting super lady delemias.

also Fimo vs Sculpty, which one is really better for bead purpose, less brittle and fairly durable...or are they basically the same?

[identity profile] webmyrcury.livejournal.com
Hello! I have yet another question, and so this is yet another text-only post. Maybe if you gals stop being so awesome with crafting advice, I'll have to find somewhere else to ask all my stupid questions, and then I'll be able to post less text-only and more pictures! ^_^

(However there *will* be pictures of this project and various others coming soon! Don't lose hope!! :D)

OK! On to the question!

I'm starting work on a windchime of sorts for my mom. She was heartbroken when this 40-something year old vase that my Aunt gave her got smashed when we moved. I tried to fix it, and the superglue let go after a while. Mom, in her sadness and frustration, threw the pieces away. I salvaged them, and now have wire wrapped the larger pieces. I plan to hang them from a central metal loop thing, and make it into a windchime or at least a suncatcher. Its looking pretty so far, I just have to figure out what string will be strong enough, and how to get it to hang straight. Also, I've still got these GORGEOUS crystal beads that I cut from a yardsale-find necklace. They refract the light and make rainbows all over! Very nice. I'm going to hang some of those on the string with the glass pieces. ♥ It should be lovely! ♥

Now! The only thing is... that damn string!! I've been using monofilament (??) line, (you know, like fishin' wire! all bluish and see-through), and then crimp beads to hold it in place. BUT! The crimps keep cutting the string! And if that doesn't happen, then the weight of the glass pieces just pulls the string through the crimps, and it all comes undone... :( So I was thinking about using tigertail. But I really wanted the string to be transparent, y'know?

So does anyone have any thoughts on what sort of string might be best to use? Recommendations as far as crimp beads vs. crimp tubes? Something better to hold the things in place? Should I just tie knots? Is this a bad idea all together? Anybody got advice on making this sort of thing, things you've learned that I should keep in mind?

AWESOME! THANKS!! hehe. Sorry 'bout the long-and-rambly-post. ^_^;;

I tried making these bath bombs yesterday...

http://www.notmartha.org/tomake/bathbombs.html

they are more like bath "blobs" than bombs... and I need some serious help... I've devoted several Xmas presents to these and can't for the life of me figure it out. How on earth do you make it so there is NO reaction? As soon as I *lightly* misted the dry mixture even just once, there was bubbles on the edges! Is it okay if there's a little reaction? AHHHHHHH its so frustrating!

=)
