you guys would....

can lip balm containers go through the dishwasher? I'm going to be making lipbalm soon and I have about 5 empty containers (pots and tubes) that I've cleaned out pretty well...but they still have the sort of greasy 'old lip balm' smell and residue to them :/

d'ya think the dishwasher would melt them?

ginormo picture post of various crafties coming tomorrow :3

I came in sixth place at the National Press Radio's contest. Not too shabby :)

Here is the screen capture. It isn't really big but enough so that it needs to be behind a cut.

Ahoy. I've watched this community for a while and decided if there was ever a group of people who'd be able to solve my dilemma, it would be you all. So my boyfriend gave me a Hanukkah present (he's not actually Jewish, just...strange) that was a picture of he and I that he'd taken. So now I'm in a pinch to get him something equally as heartfelt and precious (I especially feel bad because I'm already late on his birthday gift of a scarf thanks to finals). I thought it would be cute to make him a dreidel, but when I tried to make playdough and bake it, the whole thing bloated out and looks like crap. I just used the bog-standard flour-salt-water recipe.

My question to you all is: Is there a better recipe out there for home-made clays? Or would I be better off just buying premade modelling clay at a craft store? It needs to be hardy enough to last being sent through the terrors of the local post office and make it there in one piece.

Any input at all would be very much appreciated.

A while ago, someone posted some fabric stamping... where they took a stamp and put material on it and ironed it so the material would have that imprint on it. I was wondering if that would work on other fabrics (they did it on a velvet fabric.)

I'm planning on making a quilt for my boyfriend for Christmas, and I wanted it to possibly have some kanji or some characters on it, and I found some perfect stamps at Michaels. If the ironing thing doesn't work, what would you suggest for stamping the images onto the fabric without it getting all blobby?

Thanks!!

Pitcher Brothers on University Way in Seattle is moving and they're trying to unload lots of carpet squares this week. I picked up a bunch of green pieces to do a patchwork rug for my room. So if you're local and you're thinking of doing something like that or making a cat tree or some other crafty carpet thing, you might want to check them out--5034 University Way NE.

The struggle that preceded the making of this pear is truly epic. I was inspired by this one and just had to have it. My old pincushion was a toy wombat, and my boyfriend made me feel guilty by acting out a limping real-life wombat writhing in pain from my inadvertent voodoo sticking. After much pondering, babushka doll mummification, cutting, scaling and tracing, I had a pattern. I hope to post it, and tutorial, when my camera batteries are charged.
