i'm fairly new to the whole sewing thing (but i've been crafting forever). i'm almost done with my very first purse (which i'll post pictures of once i sew the handles on) and i'm already thinking about my next project.

i want to make my friend fuzzy pajama pants out of disney princess fleece. are there any tips you can give me? or point me towards a good tutorial? i also need to figure out the measurements on the waist band. how many inches is a size 8 (women, duh)?

thanks!

Well I was lucky enough to see both of Idina Menzel's final shows playing Elphaba in London's Wicked. And as Helen (Glinda) said, probably the final time she would ever play the role of Elphaba (but we won't think about that right now). As my friends and I were front row for both, we felt we needed to join in. So both of us dressed as Elphie. It was a hit with the cast, grabbed their attention, and they were wonderful and two of the most heartbreaking performances I've ever seen.

*The cloud is made of fleece.
*I didn't stuff this one (I've made two similar cat toys in the past) with anything.
*The face is painted on with fabric paint.
*I triple sewed the ribbon on with tiny stitches so this one should hold up for awhile.

anyone have any clever ideas for something to do with a ...broken... loofah sponge? the threading holding the loofah together broke yesterday, so now I have a long tube type thingy of loofah netting. VERY long. But it seems like it has promise so I can't bear to throw it away.

any ideas?

I've felt the urge to work on felt projects lately, so I thought I'd share a couple of things I made.

I bought a cute headband at the mall the other day for about $6. I haven't worn headbands since elementary school and was excited about it. So, I went to the dollar store and bought a few (ugly) headbands for cheap and recovered them with old fabric and things I had around from previous projects.

Delicious headbands )
Yay!

This is a little tote I made recently that stores crayons and a coloring book neatly for my daughter to take along places with us. I wanted to have something easy to take when we go to restuarants or somewhere where I need to keep her busy for a little while. She loves it. I still think I'll be making changes but I was happy for it being my first try.

hey..i looked in memories, but I couldn't find anything about this, and i figured some people on here might know -

recently a group my friend and i are in custom ordered some zip-up hoodies, and she ordered a medium. they came in the other day, and (alas!) the were a bit...large.

other than washing in warm water and drying in the dryer on hte hottest setting, is there any other way to shrink it?

the material is:
shell: 100% combined cotton
lining: 55% combined cotton, 45% polyester

washing instructions: machine wash cold, tumble dry low

i know cotton will shrink the most, but...anything?

thanks guys (:

I am hoping someone can help me.

I have searched the memories and all over the internet and still come up with nothing.

About a week or so ago the kids and I were channel surfing and we discovered the D.I.Y. network. After we watched that show on knitting, yeah the kids were really into it, a show came on with things you can make around the house. One of them had to do with washers....making jewelry out of the them.

I didn't get the name of the glue/seal that they used.

What I do remember is they had the washer and they glued scrapbook papers to them, they had to be laser printed. I guess you take it to the local copy place and say *laser print please* or else the colors run. You let it sit for a day. Then you take and put this clear stuff over the top and that is the stuff I can't remember what it is. You are suppose to let it lay flat and dry for 2 days and it gives it a raised and glossy look. I didn't catch the name of it and I looked all over the website, in the memories here and all over the internet and I am still clueless.

I was hoping someone in here might have caught the show and remembered what they used or know what I am talking about.
It was a guy and a girl working on them.
They were quite basic necklaces. After they were all dried they strung them on some rattail and a simple glass bead and a simple clasp and had a cool kind of retro-ish necklace

hello everyone! i have a few months to work on my prom dress, but i'm kind of stuck atm.
i want to make the skirt kinda of like one of the stereotypical cheerleader skirts (with the pleats and everything) but knee legnth.
heres the problem: i want the rectangular-ish panels to be made out of jones soda labels (www.jonessoda.com if you need to know why i want a pop companies name all over my prom dress)
how the heck will i get that to work? i've thought of laminating them, but i dont think you can sew laminated paper, cause it would rip. if i put a thin cotton in between the 2 layers of plastic, i dont htink they would bond.
my last thought was to put thin strips of cotton where i will be sewing. that way, the laminate will bond to the paper and itself, and it wont fall apart when i sew it

what do you guys think?

"Excuse me. Um. Ex... excuse me.

"I um. It, ah. I was running in the park, you see? And I saw the most beauty-ful thing, just, like, a jewel on wings, flittering in the air. It was orange and yellow and jet black and just, oh, so wonderful.

"Only, when I caught it, because catching and holding on to perfect treasures is, well, it's what dragons do, yes? When I caught it, um, well, something happened, and I'm not sure that what happened was a good thing at all...

"Well, what I wanted to ask you, see, is, um, you wouldn't happen to have any glue, would you? I seem to have broken my buddyfly, and I'd like to fix him..."

It's not dead, it's restin'. )

While coloring in w crayon some pretty line drawing I found, a thought occured to me regarding transfering the drawing, or really just the crayon/wax part onto something like a bag. Would I be able to color a picture on regular paper, say printer type and then proceed to place it crayon side down on a bag and iron on the back? Would this actually transfer the image from the paper to the fabric or would it totally not work and it will be a smelly mess? I suppose I could just color on a bag w the crayons too. If I colored directly onto a cotton fabric w regualr crayon would I be able to iron it a bit to seal it as long as there was some paper, maybe brown paper, between drawing and iron so not to ruin my iron or make a huge mess? anyway, I don't know how well it would work, I suppose jsut trying it would be good. But for all you transfer image divas, I thought you might have some insight into creative transfering past iron ons from your printer or a shop. also should the tranfer work, how would I protect the crayon from fading if say it needed a washing?

So I went out and bought a Barbie for about $7.00 and it's all Fairy Princess right now. I'd like to make clothes and change the Barbie's all over look into something like this "Christian Dior 1947 New Look" Barbie. It's for a school project on the French fashion designer Dior and I think I can do most of it already. The pleated full skirt and jacket will be sewn with old scraps. I'll use some old tights for her tights and make her stilettos black instead of the baby blue it already is.

Im working on my application for FIT. Including making tons of stuff for my interview! This is what I finished today! And I went to the mall in it! I got *SO* many compliments on it! 2 from kiosk people, 1 from my friends coworker, 1 from my friend, 1 from the girl at MAC, 1 from our waitress at TGI Fridays, and 1 from some random girl in the bathroom. I LOVE it. Its my favorite thing EVER. Tell me what you think about it!!! I want FEEDBACK!!!

I have a Brother XL 5050, and need to adjust the bobbin tension. Can anyone help me locate the screw that controls the bobbin tension? The manual doesn't say, just says 'turn that screw', helpful. I haven't touched my machine in months because of this problem, and I desperately miss it.

Thanks!

I tried a hollowed out book thingy! Oh, wow, props to me for great grammar!

It's not the best, and it could have been deeper, but nevertheless, it's mine, and beautiful. Now if only I had something to put in it... :(
