The FUN way to learn knitting!
Jan. 14th, 2007 12:33 am*EDIT* I switched to an easier-to-upload service. Hopefully this helps! Thanks
molasses!
I learned how to knit from this book! It was my mother's when she was a girl. I've made a PDF of the book located
here. It's about to fall apart and I wanted to preserve it somehow. I especially like the visuals for how to make a starting slip knot.
I made the donkey mitt for a friend, and named him Donkey Hotay (say it out loud, you'll get it). They can stretch over an adult hand but are more made for kids hands.
It doesn't seem that Newlands has been in business for ages, they were a Canadian company.

A drawing of mine that I translated onto felt. Of course now I have no idea what to do with it, because I was going to buy a sewing machine and put it on a tote bag but the sewing machine never materialized and now I just have this sitting around my apartment.
There's a slight chance that I posted this before, but I can't remember. I made it back in October so I may have posted it back then. I apologize if I did and then forgot about it. ♥
I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to post any pics of shoes that they have altered with paint? I would like to see how they would look! I picked up a sweet pair of chunky Mary Janes today and they need a little dolling up!

Belated Christmas balls
Jan. 14th, 2007 04:28 pmOkay, I gave one of these away to everyone in the immediate family (both my side and the inlaws) this year... I got the inspiration from someone who posted about these in December last year...
( Cut for lots of pix )
Full descriptions are in the gallery. Most of these were done by taking christmas floral picks and snipping off bits that were the right size to fit in the ball.
I *did* try to put rub-on transfers of snowflakes and gold leaves on the balls, only I discovered the hard way that when you try and put rub-on transfers on thin glass, the glass will shatter in your hands. *oops*
These had actually been in my closet from last year, and I'd intended to use paint on the balls instead of putting other things in them, but the person who posted in december gave me ideas. :)

I checked out the memories and such and all I found is this website:
http://www.mulberrywood.com/necktie/howtomakeanecktie.htm
It tells me how to sew one, but it doesn't give me a pattern. With that said, is there a difference between men's neckties and women's neckties? I saw this fitted shirt in the DEB at the mall with a necktie and a vest.
I already have a vest and fitted shirt. All I'm missing is the tie and I have plenty of material so I thought I'd make the tie. So have any of you made a necktie? If so, where did you get your pattern and how did you make yours?

Jan. 14th, 2007 05:44 pmI made this shirt for myself and I made another one of the same theme for my best friend.

It's awesome. I can't remember how I got the idea. But I used fabric paint and puffy paint to make it. I just bought a cheap shirt from Michaels and Tada!
I made this pillow for my cat. She always likes sleeping in the weirdest places and it never looked comfortable. So I made this pillow.

And my model, Arshe, was happy to display the pillow for me.

She's so cute. =^.^=
Anyway, more pictures when I find them! Thanks!

Knitty's Knucks - LATE/FATE
Jan. 14th, 2007 06:48 pmMy post was deleted, apparently because I was "selling journals" (I wasn't?), and because I didn't edit my post in 30 minutes (was visiting someone who just had surgery). Anyway, original post as follows, but with the edit I was requested to make:
I (finally) finished a pair of Knucks that I was knitting for my friend. It's also Project #03 that I'm working on for
50projects07 (50 projects in a year!).
I'm lj-cutting just in case (though I doubt he visits this community).
ken_, don't peek!
It is a Christmas / January Birthday / Thanks for hosting my website gift. ^_______^! Knit with KnitPicks Merino Wool and size 3.5mm needles. I did a k2p2 ribbing instead of k1p1 because I haven't really liked how k1p1 has turned out on my previous pairs. Also made following women's size, because man size is in actuality giant size.
The LATE/FATE is in reference to Charlie's bandages in the first season of LOST.

Yay Masks!
Jan. 14th, 2007 08:09 pmI made these using paint, feathers, and a half mask base from the draft store. Oh, and sequins.
This one is my very favorite. It makes me extrodinarily happy.
( Red Mask )Sadly, this one didn't turn out the way I wanted it to...*frown*

clyde frog toy
Jan. 14th, 2007 08:13 pmAfter seeing this post before Christmas I thought a felt Clyde frog would make the perfect present for my boyfriend! The year before I was going to make him a Mr Twig but never got round to it. This Christmas I worked in a craft shop (with a nice discount!) so I figured I had no excuse not to at least try. I'm not very good at sewing but I had a go and even though he's a bit wonky and his eyes keep falling off... my boyfriend still loves him :)

first post
Jan. 14th, 2007 08:43 pmHi Everyone,
This is my first post. I crochet, loom knit, garden, make soap (the oil and lye kind), candles and I'm trying to learn to sew. Seeing as how it was my sister in law that suggested I look into this Com and her x-mas present is the first project I finished up after joining; I guess it all just works out that it'll be the first one I post.
I'm really darn proud of it!
ARRR!!
She plans on using it as a trivet, or so she says I guess we'll see next thanks giving!!

My first post for craftgrrl! How exciting for me :)
Short bio - I'm an 24 y.o. Australian girl currently living in London. My main crafty focus is jewellery making - and I guess I have craftgrrl to thank for all the cool things I have seen that have encouraged me.
I'm part of a jewellery making project called "Year of Jewellery"; basically where myself & other members make a piece of jewellery each week, and post to the project blog. Its fun & challenging. Here is the piece I made this week - a free-form style necklace (inspired by other YOJ participants):
(Not sure if I can link the photo to my flickr account; but its not a link to sell, so I think its OK. Let me know if I should change it...) .
More photos of previous weeks pieces in my journal.

Stencilling
Jan. 14th, 2007 11:20 pmI'd like to try stencilling using freezer paper to make t-shirts and suchlike. I've found a UK-based website that sells freezer paper and some affordable craft knives, but I don't think I can afford a cutting mat at this time.
Is there anything I can use instead? Would thick cardboard be okay? I'm a poor student *sniff*.
Thanks in advance!
(Also, if there are any online tutorials or websites that helped you learn to stencil with freezer paper, please feel free to share them with me!)
EDIT: After all this talk of freezer paper, I visited a big art shop in the city centre and came away with two sheets of acetate and a big A2 sheet of architect's film, which the sales assistant recommends for stencilling. I also picked up a craft knife - all for only £2.50!
Thanks for all your help guys - I can't wait to start stencilling!

Jan. 14th, 2007 11:29 pmTwo necklaces! After giving up on lightboxes (my paper walls kept collapsing >.<) I went ahead and just snapped a quick one wearing the damn things:P

The shorter one is about 4 jillion indian bells (those tiny ones which only jingle if they hit eachother and don't have a ball in them). I originally bought them for a middle-eastern dance costume, but I like them much more like this:)
The long one is a little chinese woodcarving..baby or something. She's on a brown silk cord with my best attempt at a luck knot right above.
