Dear Craftgrrls (and boys)

At the end of last year we modified the info page for craftgrrl in order to clarify many points. If you haven’t read through our rules lately, please give them a look. This is a high traffic community. We don’t expect you to read every post every day (that’s our unpaid job) but we want you to be up to date.

Recently some folks have asked if we aren’t being just a weeeeeeee bit picky about enforcing the rule about not referring to sale sites.

The sad truth is that some people do post in craftgrrl to drum up potential sales for what they make…but we also know that many of you who do sell your items post here for feedback, to share like proud parents, to gain encouragement, and to get to know fellow crafters; we don’t want to discourage you from doing that! ! We prefer this to be a place of show and tell, not show and sell, but we can’t guess who is here for what. You may feel that an off the cuff comment* about having an on-line store is much different than posting a huge blinky-pink link to the store, but both can be used to drum up sales. Because we can’t judge your intent (I keep trying to knit a mind-reading hat but all attempts have failed or been felted) we consider both to be “references to Ebay/Etsy shops and listings, selling journals, or on-line shops."

I hope this explains where we are coming from

Thanks once more to all the wonderful posters who come to show and tell, we'd be empty with out you.

*Edited to add: We mean comments/remarks IN the body of the post. We do not moderate the content of  the "lj comments" that come after the post. Sorry for the confusion.

Here's my second attempt at clearance section fabric boxer shorts....this time I used 2 pieces of 1/2 inch elastic; I did 2 channels.  I don't know which is more comfortable; I'll have to ask the boy to do a comparison ;)  The detail didn't show up on any photo's I took.  There's actually a white button on the fly which looks invisible!

after asking for some advice, i'm done and can now show you my results!

Last week I posted, asking about stuffing options for the dog that I was sewing for my husband's Valentine's Day gift... I finally decided on using small gravel since, when I went to the store, I couldn't find any alternative.

Care to see the finished product?
Let me introduce you to Scrappy )

Before deciding on the dog, I'd also made an eyemask since he leaves the light on for me when he goes to bed early (and I do the same)... so we have matching ones, only his has a little fluff for softness and mine has pink loops holding the tie on. These were only the second things I'd made on the machine and so I think they're decent enough... at least they're good enough for the intended purpose.

see them here )

I also made him a duct tape rose. I was intrigued by the idea, so I gave it a whirl after working on a duct tape wallet with him while watching a movie (that'll be my next post because I have to wait to take a picture of it until after he gets home since he's actually using it).
duct tape rose + spraypaint... first try )

FINALLY, about two weeks ago, I'd gone into an antique dealer in my small town and she had a huge box of fabric for $3.00. I couldn't resist it, so I bought it and took it home. In it, there were over 20 different fabric patterns (probably more like 30) in multiple yards. [Scrappy the Dog was actually made entirely from some of the fabrics from the box as well] There were also some scraps that were pretty small, so I decided to make some bracelets made from scrap fabric and paper beads )

Anyway, thanks for looking. Any comments are welcome, especially anything telling me how to fix that thread-mangling issue.

First ever attempt at anything to do with sewing that wasn't putting a patch onto pants.

My friend commented to me that we should give each other a present for Valentine's Day, and I got to thinking about it. She's probably going to forget it, but after looking at some posts on LJ, I decided to try my hand at modifying a bag. I would have made one, but I'm not all that good at simple things, so giving that a go would have been a disaster.

I'd really love some advice & tips on how to improve so pleasepleaseplease check it out.

the design is buttons sewin in little groups all over the shirt, and they were sewn on really crappily, their about to fall off an the shirt is new. I tried resewing it with a tighter knot but it's still really loose and floppy.

Today I learned how to felt - unspun dyed wool that you sort of tangle together with a felting needle. Now that I know how to make these cute little things that resemble glittery drain hair, what do I do with them? I've seen cards and pins so far - anything else? The memories were more about regular premade felt/knitting-washing and the cute puffy flowers, though I am not sure how to make those. Projects? Ideas?

On another/similar topic, does anyone have instructions on making kanzashi, and/or do you think if I made thin felt pieces I could make those into simple kanzashi? I've never made any before, but I think they are beautiful :) Thank you for your help!

I have been crocheting a lot of hats lately. This is my favorite yarn and color thus far, it is thick and bright, basically love spun into yarn.
Now I have a few questions. I really want to crochet a cowl, but it seems that everywhere I look, all the fun patterns are for knitting, and I do not have the coordination for knitting. Have any suggestions for patterns? Also, what kind of yarn would work best? i was thinking about testing out a chunky yarn, like the one I used in the beanie above, but also trying my hand at a lighter weight, but I don’t know where to begin.
Thank You so much!

They are both custom orders for Valentine presents for a little girl and her Dad. I wrote the patterns for both of them and am trying to decide which pattern I like better. Please let me know which you think is cuter.

Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but I really need help in figuring out how to attach my bag handles to the bag. I basically finished the body of the bag except for the unfinnished top rim and the handles part...Preferrably, I want the handles to show on the outside instead of half of it hidden in the bag.

This is my first post here, though I've been lurking awhile. I've gotta say that so many of you ladies are creative artistic/crafty geniuses. I'm jealous! See, I basically only do crafts that tell me EXACTLY what to do. :) I mostly cross-stitch and hand-sew stuffed animals from kits/patterns (having never learned to use a sewing machine).

The craft I present to you today is Sad Sam. He's from a Haan kit I bought in 2001 for a high school Home Ec class. We had to hand-sew something for an assignment. Most people made pillows; I ordered four kits and made a hedgehog and a solid-color dog during the course. :) I had this bicolor dog kit left over (along with a still-unfinished gorilla) and I finally decided to work on it over Christmas break as a Christmas/anniversary/Valentine's Day gift for my boyfriend. I finally completed it yesterday, and I must say I'm pretty impressed with myself. I, obviously, hand-sewed the entire thing. I think he's adorable!

Here he is...

Also, a question about stuffed animal patterns: I'm thinking of making a small stuffed hippo and flamingo (from scratch, using interesting fabric remnants) for my friends this spring. Anyone have info about places to get patterns? I've googled unsuccessfully and didn't find anything at my local Hobby Lobby/Michael's.

Thanks to those who helped me on my quest for a tool to use for eyelets and making holes for brads. I ended up getting a kit at Craft Warehouse by Making Memories that makes holes and sets eyelets, it even came with a pad...All in a cute little metal box.

Now my next question. Our friends are getting married in a couple of weeks. The groom is in the same motorcycle club as my husband and their club symbol is the Aunk. I would like to get some aunk stickers to use as part of the embellishment for this card. I know it is a rather odd item and I was wondering if anyone had seen aunks at Michaels or craft warehouse?

Thanks again, I will post a picture when I get the card done.

EDIT: Yes, I did mean "Ankh"....gah, damned pregnancy brain.
