Okay, so this craft isn't particularly cute or even that good-looking, but it sure comes in handy. I got sick of riding my bike in the rain and having my jeans get soaked all the way through, so I made some rain pants )out of clear shower curtain liners I got at the dollar store. I was going to write words/lyrics on them in Sharpie, but that's the question, now isn't it? Given that this is how fat I actually am, would words make it look terrible? It's not like the pants are really fashionable or anything, but I thought that writing something on them would be kind of fun. Unless it makes me look fatter. So what do you think?

Took another stab at hemp knotting tonight and I love this one even more!

The last of the stone beads that I used on the lower necklace, plus a mother-of-pearl bit I found ages ago with the holes already right there for me. A little worried that the strings going through the shell will be the weakest point, but not enough not to wear it:)

Does anyone have any favored ending methods? I've been knotting right to the ends, then shoving a safety pin through both sides in the back, so that I can take it off/on, but I feel like there has got to be a better way which does not involve possibly rusting safety pins.

Does anyone know if there is paint specifically for rubber? Or not specifically for rubber that stays on and looks good?

I did some poking around online, but I couldn't really find much, so any advice would be appreciated.

And so this isn't text only, here are some pictures of crafty things (by other people) that I took pictures of in England over the summer:

i'm planning on making ashtrays using record bowls and resin. i want to embed a picture on the bottom of the record bowl and seal the whole thing with resin.

my question is, should i use polyester or epoxy resin? i've heard that polyester is always slightly tacky after it cures and it seems like this wouldn't work well for putting out cigarettes. i've also read that the side that's exposed to air takes on a sort of weird texture. since i won't be popping it out of a mold the (potentially) ugly side will be on the outside. on the other hand, i'm a little worried i'll accidentally pour the epoxy resin too thick (since you can only do it 1/8" at a time). also i don't like the fact that it has to cure 8 hours between layers since i am incredibly impatient.

i've never used resin before but i plan on buying some today and expiramenting. it's expensive enough that i'd rather only have to buy one type.

any thoughts? thanks in advance!

ETA: ok, so it sounds like resin won't work. so now i'm thinking of putting glass on the bottom of the record bowl. but i also don't want the record part to melt if someone accidentally puts their cigarette out on it. would shellac protect it/be safe? it seems like it might emit fumes but so far it's the best thing i've thought of...

This is kind of a funny story:

I started knitting this afghan for my brother and his wife for Christmas '05. But, the catch was, that I never finished it!!! So now, over a year later, I'm SOOO happy that it's all done! This is my first afghan. I found the pattern online, used 'Chenille Thick and Quick' yarn from Lion Brand.

When the afghan was 'finished' (according to the pattern's standards) all of the edges were wavy and uneven. I wasn't too happy about that. So I decided to add a border.... ugggh. That only took hours upon hours... but I think it turned out so much better.

Here is a picture of the blanket as a whole, then a close up of the hand-sewn border/edges. I hope you enjoy!! I just can't wait to give them their LONG-awaited gift. Just in time for the warm spring weather! Haha.

This purse makes me hungry for chocolate mints.

Designed the pattern myself. I am proud of myself for ironing the material for once in my life, it really does make it easier to sew everything and it looks better.

I bought this material at hancocks, it's going out of business here in Flint.

It's about 8 inches wide and 7 inches deep. Lined and zipper closure. Adjustable tie strap. and tied material to cover zipper.

These were super fun to make! I will be making a ton more, too. The dragonfly body/wings bead is handmade in the torch, the rest of the beads are a mix of glass beads, chips, or crystals. The metal beads are bali sterling silver, and the wire and findings are all sterling silver as well.

on to the pretties )

i'm making a sample up of a corset that has a choker like neckband. the neckband needs some buttons.

which way would the button holes go up (|) or across (-) the neckband?

it hasn't been specified on the spec sheet and i am really not sure which way would be best.

so, I am dying to jazz up my eyeglasses. even though they are cute and were really expensive, I have had them about three years and it gets incredibly boring to *have* to wear the same accessory every single day. I am poorer now but will prolly be able to afford a new pair in the next three months or so, so I am not afraid of jacking them up a little. I bought some clear swarovski crystals at my local beadstore and now need advice on the best way to attach them to my glasses. I thought about carefully placing them on with superglue, which seems easiest, but does anyone have any better ideas? thanks!

ps - you can kind of see the glasses in my userpic

So I've had this blink 182 shirt lying around for awhile.. I decided to buy a youth large on clearance and later found out that i -couldn't- actually squeeze my chest into it, and it was a little short hehe...

Anyway..I finally got around to doing something about it. made sure to make a gigantic hood for my head that almost always bears a ponytail and never fits under any hood.

Hoodie! made from blink shirt, pink shirt, and some grey jersey knit fabric.

what do you think?
