OK, I know that MisKnits is open until 9 PM on Wednesday nights for "people to get together and make some progress on those unfinished projects"... Are there any other craft, yarn, bead, etc... stores that also do this? I'm trying to crawl out of my shell a little bit and actually (OMG!) met new people...

I've started to do tunisian crochet, which i think is fun, easy, and generally a 'good thing.'

i have a question though, for a larger blanket that uses a graph..say something like this: example , how do all 150 stitches fit on the hook? it doesn't look like it's done in blocks...so are all 150 supposed to fit on my hook....?

it just doesn't seem like they'd fit without be scrunched up and tight. so if anyone can offer some soothing advice toward that end, i'd appreciate it.

Ok so i'm involved in a swap and i want to make sure i get it right before I send out. What do you think of her? She's a little proud but she's royalty so she's allowed to be. I'm not sure you can tell but she's looking out the corner of her eye to make sure all eyes are on her
what do you think

I've got a couple of latch hook rugs that have been sitting around, so I'm working on completing one. It is an oval shaped sunflower rug. It will look something like this completed:

I've got that stuff you put on the back when completed. My question is - what do I do with it then? I thought about hanging it on the wall but I'm not sure if that would be super tacky or what. Ideas? Someone suggested a throw pillow but it is a bit too big for that.

Thanks!

Ok, Pittsburgh: Where the hell can one purchase yarn/material/anything craft related that is not Joann Fabrics or Walmart?

I have lived here my whole life, but I am still incapable of finding anything in this city.

Thanks for your help.

emergency!

...a little one, at least. ;P

i've just been informed that my best friend's daughter's birthday is this weekend, and being a good auntie i want to make her something special - but also not terribly involved, as i have all of two days to complete it. toys and stuffies are a no-no (kid's up to her eyeballs already), so i was thinking a simple elastic-waist skirt with a matching purse or something. easy peasy!

except for the part that... well, she's turning eight, and it's been a looooong time since i was eight. i have absolutely no idea what size an average eight-year-old girl comes in (much less a tall, skinny one like her), and the world wide intarweb is no help at all.

i know it's a long shot but i know some of you have kids. if you could give me an idea of waist/hip circumference and maybe even a clue about how long a knee-length skirt should be, it'd be much appreciated. ;)

so this isn't text-only:

Made this today (while at work) for a co-worker who's last day is tomorrow. She's totally hooked on anything having to do with pirates. It's got a keychain ring at the top that you can't see in the pics. I took this on my crappy cell phone camera. The pink is actually HOT pink, SUPER hot pink, not Carnation like the pics make it seem! :)

for one of the swaps i'm in, my partner is allergic to nickel. so was wondering if people knew of brands that do include nickel? i checked the packages and they didn't say anything about nickel. but what i am using/plan on using is sterling plated chain by blue moon beads, and earrings/jump rings/etc by nicole quality value silver plated jewelry connection. thanks.

Hello crafty people! This is my first post to this community, and I really hope you can help me with this one!

I have gotten my hands on some black vinyl (at least I think it is vinyl - it looks a lot like faux leather, but I think it´s vinyl hence his rubber-y feel). I got is as a gift, which was simply awesome, but it has been folded up, well not folded, more crumbled into a ball. Yes, wrinkles all over... which was not so awesome at all.

I am planning to use it as backing for a "golden record" in a frame as a present for my Dad. The wrinkles HAVE to come out somehow or I can just ditch the whole project.

I tried ironing the back. Didn´t work. I tried ironing the front, with a damp towel over the vinyl and then ironing it carefully. No good results either.

Does anyone know if it would work if I would soak it in water and then air-dry it, laid out on a flat surface? If not, does anyone have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it!
