Here's a question for all you crafty peeps:

I have to cut out 1500 2.5"x2.5" fabric squares out of many yards of 44" fabric.

Any ideas for a cheap, efficient, and accurate way to do this that will get the job done as fast as possible using household items?

I don't have the money to go buy all the fancy quilting stuff that I really want for this project like rotary cutters, templates, self-healing mats and stuff because I spent all the money I had budgeted for this project on the fabric, and don't have any more to spare from any other project I have budgeted.

I thought about using one of those huge paper cutters that are like a huge curved blade with a handle attached to a platform, but I tried a sample at my mom's office the other day, and it only came out exact with interfacing on the back so the fabric didn't warp while it was being cut. And since it's a quilt, interfacing strong enough to keep it from warping in the cutter would make the quilt too stiff to use.

I really would like to not have to sit there and cut around a single 2.5" x 2.5" foamboard template 1500 times, because with school, I certianly wouldn't have the thing even finished being cut by christmas, when the whole thing needs to be done for. Measuring by hand would also suck.

Help me!

haa, so i made a total ghetto jewelry display!
semi-inspired by whoever posted the tutorial a while ago to making a DIY jewelry bust.

made of a picture holder, piece of cardboard, very cheap vinyl i got from a skirt i had one time, the vinyl of the skirt was actually glued to the lining, and it ripped apart after two days (you can rip the vinyl with your hands too, its pretty sad)
i put in some eyelets, put some shoe polish over the vinyl to make it looks less cheap. and it was done.
yay or nay?
also, would this be an acceptable picture for selling an item? or is it to cheap looking/bad picture?
BEHOLD! )

My mom once mentioned that she has no idea who I am talking about when I talk about my friend in Alaska (my mom lives in California). So, for a belated Mother's Day gift I made her a scrapbook of my friends and life in Alaska...

This is only my second time seriously scrapbooking and my first time actually completing a full project...

Here are the results!

I hope she likes it!

The scrapbook only had so many pages...and I didn't have pictures of EVERYBODY I hang-out with in Alaska...

Hi this is going to be another one of those terrible non-photo posts, sorry.

my mom gave me a sewing machine. It's a Janome harmony 8080. Problem is she didn't have the manual. I've written Janome, and they have told me to contact sears, so I have written sears and I am waiting to find out if they can sell me a copy of the manual.

But I'm anxious to start messing around with the machine doing basic stitches and the like, but there is a problem. When I turn my machine on it says SP in the display window, and the only things it will do are beep at me if I press any of the buttons, and if I push the peddle it makes the winder spin. I've tried filling a new bobbin and replacing it. I've tried rethreading the machine, but short of that I'm stuck. Do any of you wonderful folks have any ideas?

What are 3 of your favorite small christmas crafts that are easy to make? They have to be small enough to fit into a shoe box. Thanks!

I have wanted to learn to crocket forever. I finally pinned my friend down and she showed me the ways of the single crochet. (I will master one thing at a time!) I tried and tried to learn from a book, to no avail, but I have made the SC my bitch, at this point! :D I just finished my first official project and I was feeling all giddy so I ran upstairs to show it off to my son.

He said,"Mom, the handles don't match!!" Killjoy!

(I informed him that handles DON'T have to match, per se, as they come in limited colors, besides, I got these for a whopping 50 cents!)

I even lined the inside and added a little pocket.

I will probably wait till Fall as it is more of a jeans kind of bag!

Either way, I love it and am really pleased with my first project! The kid, not so much! :O

So i purchased the Lip Solutions base from thesage.com, and i did a test run with one tube today, so here's my questions:

1. It doesn't smell very good. I tried adding some vanilla but that didn't mix well and just made little brown balls. Suggestions for scenting/flavoring?

2. Is adding vanilla or other flavored oils going to make the lip balm "go bad" after a certain amount of time?

3. Can I add baby oil or something to make it shinier?

4. Why can't I microwave it? (Instructions says to melt over stove).

Thanks! I'll post some pics once I've perfected the recipe.

I have a good sized collection of beer bottle caps. Any ideas on what to do with them? Some are too pretty to toss away. I was thinking maybe turn the ones in better shape into earrings, but what else?
