Photo Emulsion Silk Screening Paper?
Jul. 27th, 2007 12:38 amThis was probably over a couple years ago now, but I swear I saw it here. I had a link to an online store that sold sheets of photo emulsion like paper. They were kind of green-ish. It was not selling the emulsion liquid, they were actual "refill sheets" for something. You could hold it up to a printed design, submit it to light and it would create a silk screening stencil for you. I had the link in my favorites, but my computer died and Im dying to try these now.
If anyone remembers this, please help me out.
Thanks!

Needle felting question
Jul. 27th, 2007 08:45 amHello ladies and gents, I have a question for those of you who do fiber needle felting.
What do the different needle gradings mean?
Star vs triangle needle, is it the shape for the needle or just a manufacturer brand and inconsequential?
Also the sizings, is a 36 smaller or larger than a 38? Does 'coarse' mean it's got more teeth?
I'm looking for needles to root doll hair specifically and I already asked one Ebay seller who simply told me 'sorry I just use these to dry felt. I can't help you.'
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated since my searches online have been similarly un useful in my questions.
I'll post pictures when I'm done (not telling what the project is. It's a surprise!)!
**edit**
I've updated my personal journal with my experimentations thus far.

I 'm Laura or Chatnoir and I just joined your community and wanted to say "Hi". I usually work on fabric sculptures based on people or creatures from mythology or my own fantasy writings. This is my newest piece - The Meditation of the White Cat. Making this appliqued, embroidered and quilted piece was very exciting for me. But I now have a little problem with it. Do I call it an icon, a wall hanging, a tapestry or an embroidery? It is a religious image meant to be displayed in an altar setting and so icon fits... maybe. I think of tapestries as woven artworks and it's not only embroidered. If anyone has a suggestion for a title, please feel free to let me know.
Please visit my journal if you want read the story I wrote about the cat, Sinh. The link to my site will also allow you to see more pictures of this piece.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions any of you might come up with for an item title.

Easy Gift Ideas
Jul. 27th, 2007 04:58 pmFirst I just have to say that all of you are an amazing bunch of creative people who have totally inspired me. Thanks to everyone who posts.
Okay, so for my first post, this may be not the most original or creative, but I wanted to make a thank you gift for some friends who invited us to use their Tahoe cabin this weekend. I made some little tea towels using flour sack cloth, freezerpaper stencils, a little embroidery, and some rickrack/dingleballs. I think they came out nice and I'm not embarrassed to give them.

Jul. 27th, 2007 09:47 pmI made my own hair product! I'm sick to death of going to the store to find something that can even halfway tame the giant fuzzball attached to my head, only to find that either nothing works or the thing that did work has been discontinued by the company that made it (I'm looking at you, Dove). So, I went on an internet quest to find a recipe for hair stuff that I could make myself. I found one, and it works really well.
The recipe is here, and consists of:
2 Tbsp Whole Flax Seeds
1 cup water
Pure Aloe Vera Gel, if desired, or a vitamin E capsule
Few drops of essential oil for scent
Instructions:
Bring water to a boil. Stir the seeds into the water and reduce heat. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly, until a gel-like lotion is formed. Strain through a fine strainer or cheesecloth into a small bottle; I think a squeeze bottle would work best, but a jar to dip into could work just as well. Add essential oils and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. If desired, you can add some pure aloe vera gel for its moisturizing properties. Fill the bottle with flax seed gel until bottle is about 3/4 full, then fill to the top with pure aloe vera gel. Stir.
I made it without the essential oil, since it was my first try making it. I cooked it until it was sort of syrupy, and when cooled it's around the consistency of egg whites (but most assuredly does not do the same things to your hair as egg whites do!). I think I'll go for vitamin E next time; I used aloe this time, and I had a few frizzies, but otherwise it's a most excellent gel! It doesn't feel crunchy, and my hair's soft and controlled. Plus, I spent $0.37 on flax seed and only used maybe a quarter of it, so the gel cost around ten cents all told. Not too shabby!
