My first post! I'm so proud!

So yeah, my Gramma gave me all of her fabric scraps, and I discovered this pattern by Cranston Printworks...

I thought you girls might appreciate this... We made a long rice krispy treat and then stuck the candy corns into it. Totally unhealthy, and quite ridiculous, but it makes for funny pictures.

Well, I decided to do a little decorating today and I ended up mod podging over some magazine pictures. They pretty much just wrinkled up and now my project looks terrible. In the future, what can i use as a sealant that is a better product(also is there something waterproof? I am planning on making some coasters) ? also, an adhesive that won't cause my paper to wrinkle up like the mod podge did?

There is a new website where people are pledging to buying "Handmade".

What is handmade? I've been arguing this for a long time with my innerself. If you've assembled it, these days it's considered handmade. Truely when I look at things, nothing is ultimately handmade.

You cannot stop supporting large organizations and sweatshops because many of the materials you use in everyday life to assemble those "handmade" goods are ultimately made in sweatshops, factories and massproduced.

So unless you as a crafter are spinning your own wool right off the sheep, using natural non chemical dyes, making your own beads and findings, making your own paper and glue then I can justify seeing you sign up for this site.

I too get lured into promoting myself as being part of the handmade revolution. But really, now...Where does it begin and where do we draw the line ladies and gents? Now, I'm not posting this to cause angry controversy. I am posting this to get some legit feedback from other crafters and what they think about this new website. (This means rude posts will not be tolerated, and inspirational opinionated posts will be happily tolerated (even if I can't agree)!

In the end is it just a bunch of small business ladies rah-rahing for their own small time commercialism? Or is it really going to help close those sweatshops, manufacturing plants and take business away from the Wal-mart craft departments?

Hi I am pretty sure this is my first post to the community, so if there is something wrong with it please just let me know :) I have stalked thos forum for quite a while so I am not -quite- a stranger ... anyways onto the question.

I am looking to make some of those fuzzy leg warmers often seen by the raver types, I have massive amounts of "monster fur" and decided I might as well make myself a pair. However I am not too sure how to go about it, and I was wondering if anyone has seen such a tutorial, or if it would just be a simple thing to figure out and I should just go about hacking my fabric until I get it right.

Some scarves, other knitted things, and jewlery! I have a craft show in a week and I'm goin nuts!
ahhhhh )
So that's it. I still need to make wash clothes and my soap/candles. I'm putting them together in little gift baskets. Talk about waiting to last minute! What I'm really confused about is how to price everything. I guess I'll charge $15 or so for scarves and I figured maybe $5 for the flowers? I have no idea for the jewlery though. Any suggestions? This is my first craft show!!

Ok, so I need the expertise of some seamstresses..
My Halloween costume is ALMOST finished.. all I have to do is install the zipper, but it isn't working out.  I have tried about 4 times and the fabric keeps bunching up and blah blah I just can't do it.  SOOOO, I was wondering if you have any other suggestions for fasteners.  I was thinking hook and eyes, the slit is about 16inches long.  And how in the world do you install them?  Is it pretty self explanatory?
Also, the reason the zipper is being so difficult is because the whole dress is already put together and I cant fit the back of the dress with the zipper through my machine because of the neck of the dress.  Any who here's a picture of the front of the dress-

Thanks in advance!!

x-posted!

two questions about dying clothing:

1) is it possible to use RIT powder dye in a washing machine that isn't top loading? can you just pour the dye where the detergent goes or possible just in with the clothes?

2) does it have to be on hot water? i wanted to dye some jeans and i dont really want them to shrink from hot water

I pulled a cardboard box out of my mother in law's recycling bin. It's small, maybe five inches long, with a nice little flat top and bottom. My original plan was to decoupage it, but then I decded to put fabeic over the lid with a layer of cotton batting underneath, wrap them around the sides of the lip, and colorful beads sewn or glued on to the top as ornaments. The rest of the box, the sides of the lower half of the box and bottom, would have been painted, I guess, but I really hadn't decided. I'm just not really sure how to attach the fabric to the sides of the box. Maybe I'm just better off decoupaging the fabric to the top and trimming it against the corners so the sides of the box are uncovered and need to be painted also? Anyway, I could use some btdt or suggestions here...
