Here's the crafty bits of my Halloween costume this year. I was Malice in Wonderland, a costume mostly inspired by my beloved skeleton flamingos and a dress I found at Goodwill a few months ago for $3.50. Usually I make my whole costume, but my craftiness this time was limited to my accessories.

So shoot me. It's November 5 and I'm just now posting halloween type stuff. But I don't have internet at home so I have to wait until a non-busy work day to manage my crafty posts. ^_^

Hi all, I'm new here but I've been reading the community for a while and I'm impressed.  I used to sew a lot when I was younger and recently I picked up doing some basic knits.  (Pictures under the cut!) I've managed to knit myself a scarf out of the Vanna White yarn that Lion brand was sponsoring that turned out super soft and I love it.

So, Craft Grrls, do you have any advice for this sewing novice?  Please help :)  Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have any good tips for making cards for Christmas? I'm really big on making them so it's not the original bought box cards but I'm drawing a blank even though I want to start early!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I made the decision to hand-make (or at least hand-alter) all my holiday gifts this year. I started crafting in the middle of October and have made it pretty far. I figured I'd post pictures of my progress so far!

And the crafts begin... )

So, all-in-all, for the first week of November, I feel pretty good. Lots more to go, but I feel like I can conquer it now!

I'd love to hear about everyone's Holiday projects!

ETA: Figured I'd include a list of projects that are still in the works:

•Set of 6 Napkins + Placemats (to go with the napkin rings)
•Photo book for my parents (can't decide if I have time to do this myself or if I should just order it)
•Custom calendar for each of the families on my side (I'm a professional graphic designer, so I've been doing this for years and if I don't do it one year...I might get ousted)
•Hand-painted wine glasses and decanter (as mentioned above)
•Natural, non-toxic finger paints (for my 18 month old niece)
•Art smock to go with those finger paints
•Set of stenciled onesies for my 3 month old nephew
•Set of stenciled onesies for my 12 month old niece (I know, I have a lot of them)
•Knitted scarf for my future sister-in-law
•Peppermint bark and fudge in tins for family friends

I have a shit-ton of pictures on my digital camera. I really want to experiment with the colors of the photos. Something like making the pic black and white with only a flower or something in color. I have used my google-foo (and checked the memories) to research free downloads but the problem is I have no idea what to call that kind of editing. And I don't want to junk up my computer with useless downloads. Does anyone know of good FREE programs that I can use? Thanks in advance!

I want to make an scrapbook for my boyfriend's birthday {it's in March, so I've got time...}, but I need some ideas! I'd love to see picture of your scrapbooks or similar projects! And also, what materials should I buy to make it?

Thanks in advance!

Just a link the people here may find useful, no pics, no cool projects, no uncool projects, sorry:

JN Zippers & Supplies Corporation has an excellent "specifications" page that gives clear diagrams and labels for the parts of zippers.  I stumbled across it when I was looking for luggage zippers online.  The "thing you pull" is called a "puller", for instance, but the bit that stacks the teeth (which is really the "chain") to close or open it is called the "slider body".  The separating zipper is also known as an "open end zipper", and you join the ends when you close it using a "box and pin" mechanism to get the puller on track. :-)

It sure helps to know what to call the zipper bits when you have to tell a customer why you can't possibly FIX the darned thing.

cross-posted to the usual suspects.

For my girlfriend and my four months anniversary I thought it would be sickly sweet to make us shrinky dinks of eachother.
