I need to make a cast of a semi-large object--I need to end up with half a leather combat boot made out of something that's not leather. I have a VERY limited knowledge of casting and mold making--I know making the mold will be the biggest challenge.

Does anyone have any resources for mold-making that won't kill the bank or my sanity?

I was thinking of casting in latex, as this has to hang on a canvas or a board and plaster would be too heavy, I think. Does that sound right?

This is my first post, so hello out there!

It's looking more and more like Christmas at my house and what better way is there to decorate than with crafts? My camera is broken (I'm getting one for Christmas though!) so all I have are these camera phone pictures! They don't do the crafts justice though. Enjoy!

I have these two fingering weight alpaca yarns in my stash, I thought they might look good together, so I started to knit a swatch in a simple lozenge pattern. However, I am afraid that the colors are too similar and that the pattern will not be apparent enough. So I come to you guys for opinions.
(please excuse my toes!!!at least my fingernails are clean!!!)

What do you think? I was picturing a floral scroll type pattern, probably for armwarmers/gloves. Do you think it will work even with lack of contrast, will the lack of contrast make it more subtle (will that be a good thing?) I was leaning towards No, but my roommate said it might work

These are some Dala horse Christmas cards I made using my print gocco, gold ink, and my original artwork. I'm so happy with how they turned out!

( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gocco )Here's a quick wikipedia explanation of "gocco"

Hey guys! So, I'm a little nervous about posting this cause I don't want to break any rules, but I looked through the FAQ/rules/memories/LJ Seek and came up empty. I have a co-worker that was offered a new job and is leaving in 2 weeks.

We are both huge fans of The Office and I wanted to get him something as a going away present. I'm thinking, I'd like to make him a custom bobblehead of himself (like Angela did for Dwight--only not to that extent, obviously). I've looked through Google, searching How to Make a Bobblehead and didn't really come up with anything. I saw one, but the bobblehead was a football player. I looked at it and I might be able to customize it, but I wanted to see if anyone on here has attempted this and if they used a tutorial. Thanks in advance!

I think someone asked a few days ago for some advice on cutting a section out of a book. Well, lucky you, because MAKE's weekend project podcast is on just that.

We started wrapping our Christmas presents this week, as some are being handed over at a party on Saturday. So out of curiosity, I got all the stuff I'd made and piled them up on our coffee table.

It was quite a pile.
