could you suspend a polymer clay figure in soap? i figure people make soap dishes out of clay, but would this be too toxic? or would the colors run?

this isn't what i want, but what i mean by 'suspend'

I am a beginner sewer and found an semi easy patchwork baby blanket pattern and decided to try it out as I have a baby shower to go to this week. It's my first attempt at this, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why my blocks were not lining up. I did some searching on the intraweb and found out you are not supposed to cut out the squares with scissors (even though the pattern said to cut them out) but you are supposed to use a rotary cutter. Good learning experience I suppose, I know for next time!

On to the pictures! Cut for size. )

I ordered tons of material from ebay, this bunny print was one that came just yesterday, I love it. One of these days I'd love to set up a photo area, with a all white back ground and perfect lighting, but for now, this works ok.

.

This one I printed the design on fabric paper then put it on with wonder under

I finally got the textile meduim in the mail so I was happy to try it out, and was nice to have something diffrent to do on the burp cloths than puff paint.

I posted a while back asking about a certain printing process and you folks helped me narrow it down to cyanotypes. SO, since you were so very helpful, I figured I'd share with you my very first print! It's my first ever photogram AND my first ever cyanotype. Yay!

I'm pretty happy with this as my first try; I don't like how the leaves at the bottom turned out (yeah, they're supposed to be leaves... I used leaf shaped beads), but all in all... pretty yay. I'm probably going to retry this with different leaves at some point.

2 years ago or os I bought these adorable childrens t shirts in like size 4 t and stuff, and I as going to cut them out and sew them into a quilt, but what about ironing them onto a tote bag or something, Would wonder under stick to the back of the shirt cut out? The decalon the shirt is kind of rubbery if you will for lack of better word. but the back of the shirt should be just fine.  you can't really see the shirts to well it wasn't a good picture but it kind of gives you an idea.

I need to make some draft stoppers for my window in the livingroom. I'm curious about what people usually use to stuff theirs. I can use fiber-fil, but that doesn't seem like it'd weigh enough to stay in place, and my window is almost 3 meters wide and that's a LOT of fiber-fil! Thanks for any suggestions =)

Hi, I am in desperate need of some really good advice!

I bought a set of unfinished wooden nesting dolls from ebay to finish for my mom for Christmas. I wanted to put penguins on them, and I haven't had much experience painting, so I went over to a friend's house to do them there. We got half way through painting them and I got a call from work so I had to run into the office for a couple minutes. When I came back, she had finished them... and I don't like them! I was going to just paint over them today but there are two spots, a huge christmas ball and a huge present, where she painted with glitter... lots and LOTS of glitter... so now it's rough and sticks out and I'm not sure how to get the stuff off! Can I scrape it off or sand it down without ruining the whole thing? They have already been sealed. What can I do to start over on the two I don't like??? Please help. Thank you!!

Any happy holidays :D

I have painted and decoupaged an ikea mini chest (small wood chest) with pictures that I printed out and found in magazines. I have used mod podge to glue down all the pieces of my project but now I need to finalize/protect it either with a spray lacquer (specifically for decoupage) or layers of mod podge/decoupage finish. I really like how it has turned out so far but I am concerned that spreading layers of mod podge on top of my project will cause bubbles or the edges of the image to curl that I can't smooth out like I did when initially glued the images down. My concern with the spray lacquer is that I don't have warm temps and/or well ventilated area to spray in.

Does anyone have experience with adding protective coats to paper crafts either with a spray lacquer or mod podge and what would you recommend? Should I still be concerned about bubbles being created or is that not an issue now that the initial gluing has been completed? Thanks for your help.

The picture below is just one of my experiments with laying out images onto the wood box which is why some of the pictures looked crooked. Not the end product.

I had seen commercial versions of shoe shaped ring holders such as this. I did not like the excessive glitz and the fact that the shoe is not actual size.

  • A visit to Goodwill for a $2 pair of leather heels.
  • Fill toe of an old knee high stocking with sand. Tie off. Cover with velvet and glue into toe of shoe. (weight so shoe does not fall over)
  • Scrap foam covered with black velvet. Glue into shoe.
  • Add trim (sequins, leather bow etc)

Sorry, no pictures this post, but I'll have some as soon as I'm finished!

I'm trying to attach fabric to posterboard, but I only have 'repositionable spray adhesive'. Is there any way to make this more permanent? I can't really afford to buy more.

Thanks!

What is a quick and easy way to melt wax for candles?

So apparently, in kid-land, there's this whole deal about having an elf come visit your house during Christmas. Red (the kid I nanny) wants one of these magic elves to come visit her house, so her mother asked me to help out. Apparently the first step in this adventure is an "Elf Contract" direct from the North Pole. I didn't get a picture of the final thing, with the second page and the "Santa's seal" I made, but I'll get one tomorrow when I see Red. Her elf's name is Edweena Pearl (I didn't name it) and she is the nature elf who takes care of Santa's reindeer.
