Happy New Year all.

As I sit here naushing on my rather large three flavor tub of popcorn and a large class of Pepsi, I find myself thinking of New Years resolutions (also thinking, the baby's asleep, nows MY chance to sleep, but nooooo, I've got craft ideas running through my head.). I told my self years ago that I would never make another resolution as long as I lived because I never keep them. Well, I'm hoping to break that starting today. I have a number of them. Some involving getting a job, getting a place with my boyfriend so we can raise our son and getting things together and losing weight (surprisingly I'm already back my pre-pregnancy weight after only 7 weeks, I didn't do much, lol). A big part of it is crafting of course. lol

I want to finish all projects I've started and stopped. I also want to actually start on the ones I have sitting on the back burner. Here's a list of the crafts I plan on finishing and starting here in the New Year of 2008:

*Phrased onesies for my son which include the following:
- Fuss Bucket
- Splody Butt! (I don't think I need to explain that one, lol)
- Time Bomb
- Grandpa's Little Harley Rider or Grandpa's Little Biker Buddy
- Make Poop (This one will only make sense to those who know who Mr. Safety from YouTube is)
- Hey Little Sparta (Again, a Mr. Safety reference)
- I may possibly do a LonelyBaby15 one (need I explain? lol)
- My hand prints

*Finish the Faux Hawk hat for my son
*Finish his knitted baby blanket
*I plan on cutting his name out from cardboard and building them up with paper mache' to put on the wall
*Work on his baby book and scrapbook and Start a scrapbook for my boyfriend
*I have a purse I'm going to recon
*I want to make a couple of scoodies, one for my and one for my mom
*Knit a couple of scarves
*I have a Zip Up hoodie that I started some fabric paint work on, it's almost finished, all I have to do is put the silver wings on the back
*I have a plain black hoodie that I'm going to put a PaPa Roach reference on
*I also have a plain black t-shirt, I'm going to put Flyleaf across the front of it

That's all I have for now. wow... I didn't realize how much I wanted to do until I had it typed out. I'm gonna try to kick myself in the butt to do this. I keep making all these plans to work on stuff and then I don't do it.

And with that, I thought I'd ask. What craft related resolutions does everyone have?

Happy New Year!

So today I have nothing but time and some Christmas money and I'm dying to buy some new fabrics for my business online. I generally buy fabric off Etsy and local small shops, but today I'd like to branch out.

My problem? I like to buy quarter yards and most places I'm looking only sell half yards and yards. Any suggestions of online fabric shops that carry brands like Moda, Alexander Henry, Japanese Zakka fabrics that allow you to buy in quarters/fat quarters?

I have purchased from Purlsoho.com before, but thats the extent of my online fabric-ing. I REALLY like them, but my last order was sort of a disaster, so I think I'd like to try another source.

Second question.

When I buy fabric, I wash it to preshrink it. I usually wash all of my fabric at once and it tends to unravel on the edges and cling together in a tangled thread mess in the wash, is there a way to avoid this? Can I cut along the edges with pinking shears first? Any tips to make pre-shrinking fabric a little less tangled?

Thank you!!! :)

Since it's past Christmas, here are a few presents. Apologies for the bad quality of some of the photos, I needed to get a quick pic before wrapping them and only had the phone to hand!

2x necklaces and stuff, 1x felt secret santa present (which is very cute but wording may not be completely work safe, but very harmless for that)... )

Hello, all!
I've made a variety of things over the past year and am finally getting around to posting them now! It was one of my To Do items for 2008...haha so I figured I'd better do it now before I started making more projects this year.

Under the cut you'll find a rag quilt, a fused newspaper bag or two, a jeans quilt, a pillow top, and a doll for my best friend's 21st.

DIALUP WARNING: SUPER PIC HEAVY!

Enjoy, and comments are always welcome!

Aaah! Crochet pattern help!

http://susan.kraus.net/pages/pattern4.html

I haven't crocheted with a pattern in ages, and my brain can't wrap around row two...

"Ch 2, turn, *dc in each st to ch 1 sp, inc (2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in ch sp, repeat from * across ending dc in each st to end of row."

I'm to double-crochet in the first chain space, then increase in the next space, and continue doing so? Increasing every-other space? that just seems like an awful lot of increasing, so I'm not sure if I'm reading it right. Can any one translate?

Scarfs

So I'm a new to crocheting but I wanted to make my sister a scarf for Christmas & my boyfriend one for his birthday.  I'm very proud of my work, I now have 4 friends asking for scarves & my mom wants a beanie. I've never crocheted in circles so I'll have to start that soon so I finish it while it's still cold.  Here are the results:

I'm taking the oportunity of having these days without classes with some more free time to make some accessories for myself. After making the mp4 player cozy, I've made one out of measuring tape for me new cellphone (that, I hope, prevents it from getting damaged like it happened to the old one eheh):

Green, Pink and Yellow Measuring Tape Cozy

And a pencil case to take to classes, entirely made of colorful zippers:

Rainbow ZipZip Case

I only have to make another pouch (this time for my sunglasses) and then I'll always be carrying several examples of my work in my purse:-)

Ok, when you're trying to draw a line-drawing on a lavender tshirt, which is best? Acrylic paint with the textile medium, a bleach pen, or...the dumb ol sharpie?

So yesterday, I got a new pair of glasses that I really liked - except the ear pieces. They are wide and have a brand name on them. I'm not such a fan of brand names, so I figured I'd add my own little spin to them:

new glasses
Materials used: Mod Podge, multicoloured origami paper, glasses, paintbrush

I'm quite pleased with the turn out. :) I love rainbows.

This is just on one side - I'm not sure what to do with the other side. I like the asymmetrical look it has now, but I want to cover the other brand name on the other ear piece. I was thinking maybe cutting some words out of a book or dictionary or something and gluing them on. I think that might look kind of cool, but I don't know...any suggestions?

Also, I thought I'd share with you guys a (NSFW) creation of mine: the Boobie Beanie! )

Happy New Year, crafters!!

Handmade Collaged Ferret Box Tower
Happy 2008 everybody!

The other night I could barely see my bedroom floor (no not coz of drinking myself blind) but because I was getting crafty cutting up all of my magazines to collage the ferret box tower I made. A few months ago I had taped together a couple of boxes as a ferret box tower. It looked very temporary like I had fished it out of our recycling bin (well I did) and slapped on bits of brown tape roughly to keep it together.

Here's some pics of the completed box tower that I collaged. 2 boxes taped together, 3 holes as exits, 1 hole inside. The box tower can stand on different sides to change its orientation of the exit holes. It also fits inside Elroy's cage and he can climb through it to get onto his hammock / next level. I love changing the way it stands now because every side has a different colourful collage on it.

This is the first step to turning Elroy's cage interior from mish mash drab to psychedelic fab. *cringe* sorry I couldn't resist (very Queer Eye For the Straight Guy lol). Read more )

So I decided that it was really wasteful to take my lunch with me in a paper or plastic bag which would just get thrown away. Solution: Make my own. Conveniently, I had two pink shirts that I no longer wear.
Let's see how this went. )

Now I have a question. I am sewing pillows and want to put a rope trim around one. But the ends are all fray-y after I cut it. How do I keep them from fraying? I've tried melting it a bit since it looked acrylic, but it was more burny than anything.
This is what I'm talkin' about )

Part of my new years resolution was to stop being too shy to post in communities. So I might as well start now.

I craft all day, everyday but I have a few things that I made as Holidays gifts. Due to major remodeling of my house we were unable to set up our tree, so I drew one at about 2am on Christmas morning and taped it up. It's silly but the kids liked
