Can anyone direct me to a tutorial on fabric covered buttons that are then stuck on bobby pins and hair elastics?

I have a bunch of super cute Japanese fabric scraps that I'd love to use up and my hair is at an awkward stage.

The only photos I can find for an example are on Etsy and I'm not sure if it's ok if I link there...

thank you :)

neck wrap

Last week I made a neck wrap.

I took some basic blue fabric (wanted to use fleece, but wasn't sure how well it would microwave), 3 lbs worth of dry beans, rice and flax seeds as well as a little scented oil (peppermint and lavender) and threw it all together. At the last minute, after all my pinning was done, I decided to add a little trim. [livejournal.com profile] stargazercrys had sent me some supplies a few months ago and this adorable penquin trim was in it. So, I added it. There wasn't enough to go all around it, but I still like it.

It's kind of ironic... it looks like a nice cold scene, the penquins in some water, and then I toss it all in the microwave and wrap it around me and I'm toasty warm as well as getting relief from my tension headaches and bad posture.

Because of the flimsy fabric, it doesn't really sit on my neck as much as it does on my shoulders, but I gotta tell you... it feels GOOD.

yah!

good morning. after a long time of lurking and longing to be a part of this community, i finally made a livejournal just to post here. well.... (i dont have any experience with posting.) i sew this with needle and thread NO MACHINES :D:D

having 6 hours and 2 yards of this amazingly soft fleece, i made a grey thing for my boyfriend. he named him rhombus.

its hard to see his eyes and mouth, but i assure you, its there. i put the book(gotta love bleach!), gameboy advance and my ipod to show you how big Rhombus really is.

"does anyone know how to make clothes less susceptable to attracting lint? google has failed me, and i've been wondering this for a while. i have a few pair of dark khaki's that are the worst lint magnets on the planet, i feel like i cant even wear them anywhere without carrying a lint roller with me"

So I had these old shoes, which I decided needed a makeover since I'm not as into the whole cherry thing anymore. About four coats of paint, 30min total of prepping and actual painting, and several messed up towels later...
Plain old paint... )

I drink a lot of tea; I probably go through at least three bags a day. Right now I'm having a mug of passion tea, which I almost always drink right before I go to bed, and which is bright purple, and it got me thinking.

Do you ladies know of any crafty projects that would put all my teabags to good use, instead of just throwing them away? Especially the ones with a more vivid green or purple tint?

A question without any pictures this time... I have a cross stitch pattern I'd really like to try. It says to be stitched on 36-count linen over 2 fabric threads. I've never stitched on linen and, after looking at the price tag on a piece of Edinburgh linen ($50 and up!), I probably won't ever... so after doing some creative Googling, it sounds to me like if I stitched on 18-count Aida, this would be the equivalent of stitching 2 over 2 on 36-count linen. Am I understanding correctly?

Hi, this is my first post. :) I'm loving checking out all the cool things everyone's made!

I got a bag of clothes from someone on Freecycle, but unfortunately they were all way bigger than i was lead to believe. Oh well. So since i couldn't use them myself, i figured i'd hack some up!

My mom is a big (though tiny!) Harley chick. So the several HD tanks and shirts would be awesome for her, if they weren't so big. So i decided to make her a bag and a checkbook cover for her upcoming birthday.

They're made from 2 seperate tees. The checkbook cover came out cool, i did the edges all fringe. I've never made anything like this, so hopefully it's not too ugly for you all! ;) :P
