Hello, I just discovered this community this evening, and I'm totally amazed!

Well, I'm new in crafts and I want to learn as much as I can. I just need time, practice and persistence. :D

What is on my mind lately is, printing photos on bags and clothes. I'd really love to have t-shirts, skirts, bags, shoes etc. with my favorite artists' art printed on them. Also, text written on them. Does anyone here knows any tutorials how to do it yourself? What techniques would be the best?

So I could get something like this:
(in case I wasn't clear what I'm asking, heh)
(art on the bag by Kurt Halsey)

Thank you all for any help! :D

Hi, I looked in the archive or memories section, could only find info on making a duct tape rose. I'm interested in trying to place fabric flowers in this art I'm working on-has anyone made any fabric flowers? I guess I will just try it on my own, but I just thought I'd ask for tips before I began. Thanks ahead of time.

Sorry for the non-picture post. I am getting ready to start my spring and summer pursestravaganza and I need to know everyone's favorite source for purse hardware. I have been picking them up at the craft store but that get's pricey. Does anyone know of anyplace to buy them wholesale. I'm also looking into found items as purse hardware. Any ideas?

Today's post revolves around my kid.
She just turned three on April 5th, so I've been busy.

First, if any of you are parents, you may be familiar with "Otto". He's a dog character created by Todd Parr. My daughter absolutely adores Otto, so I decided to sew her a felt version of him.

However, since he's a very simple sketchy type of art, I didn't have much to go on.

This is Otto:

I went charity shopping this morning and scored a couple of retro duvet covers and an unusual Irish linen tea towel. They're begging to become cushion covers, but the last time I tried to sew one with a zip closure the ends of the zip ended up looking rubbish.

Can anyone point me to an online tutorial (with pictures) that clearly shows how I should be dealing with sewing the edges of the zip to the two fabric panels (front and back of the cushion)? Obviously sewing the main part of the zip to the panels is easy, but when it comes to the edges they always end up sewn to either the front or the back panel, giving an uneven look.

Thanks so much guys!

I checked the memories and didn't find anything that addressed my exact question. I'd love to be able to make porcelain pendants, but don't have the time/money/space right now to take up baking my own ones, getting (and storing) a kiln/oven, etc. I'm therefore wondering if it would be possible to buy pre-made porcelain pendants like this one and then repaint them, or would I have to fire them in a kiln anyway? I don't need the paint to be super durable and withstand food and water, as I would only be doing this with ceramic jewelry, not diy tableware, but I'd like it to not flake or rub off if possible, either. Would I need a special kind of paint or something - or is the whole project just dreaming in technicolor and you can't work with porcelain/clay at all without baking it?

Behind the cut: the results of a few weeks of hard work.
Kind of image-heavy.

Hi grrls,

I joined this community a while ago and have been lurking and marvelling at all the fabulous things you've created. And now I'm inspired!!

Does anyone have sewing machine recommendations? I'm in the market for my first machine. I am a true beginner but I plan to use the machine for clothes, crafts, and eventually some light upholstery. I'd like to get a machine that's not going to conk out on me, so I'm okay with making an investment on a better machine that's going to last awhile and be a better machine than I am a sewer. I'm not looking to spend more than say $500, though, so nothing too high end.

I've done some research and this one seems like a good one - anyone have advice about that machine? I hear that Singer is a pretty decent brand in general. I have a friend who sews and she advised me to stay away from Brother as a brand.

Would love any help or advice that anyone has - I'm so excited to get my first sewing projects going!

Thank you all!

I just want to say that that is not an errant wire, it's a piece of crud on my computer table.

Deep Sea News, whose RSS I read, has issued a challenge for the creation of a knitted Osedax worm (aka "bone-eating zombie worm"!) and a knitted giant isopod. Are there any science-minded knitters that want to take them up on it? I may be able to manage a half-decent zombie worm, but the isopod is far beyond my skills. I bet they would be equally happy with a crocheted one.

Sorry for the text-only post.  I know we have at least one active member of the community that handspins yarn.  My bosses have two Landseer Newfoundlands (the  Big Dogs dog), and it's almost time for Destiny to have his yearly haircut.  I've seen postings here and there on the 'net of people that have spun their cat's shed hair into yarn and made sweaters and scarves out of it... I mentioned it to my boss in passing today and she was very interested, since the last time they cut Des's hair they had a huge black trashbag of newfie fur.   Does anyone know of any spinners with websites that do this so I can forward them on to my boss?

Please feel free to IM me - my AIM is LeMindums and my YIM is Lorceie.  Thank you in advance!

To the sellers in the community:

Do you know that I have deleted 10 selling posts today? And that's just *me* I'm sure the other mods have deleted a few too.
Seriously....enough with the selling.

The rules have been in place almost since the very start of Craftgrrl so don't pretend that it's your first time hearing about this. We do not (nor will we ever) allow posts with selling, links to selling, links that show a picture and the link to the selling (like in photobucket and flickr), or the mention of a selling site (like marystuff.com or user.etsy.com).

We don't want to ban people but it's really gotten out of hand.

So please keep the focus on *crafts* and *art* and away from selling.

And to the users who are seeing these selling posts: I'm sorry. We are catching them as soon as we can.

here is another mermaid that I made for my youngest. She was jealous of her older sister having one so I had to make another. I have to say that I am not to fond of the nose or the bikini. The tail is a little different this time too, not sure I like that either.

But hey...revisions are awesome, and we can only get better right!

so mermaid and my NBC coasters that I never posted that I made last year!

This is Edmund. He was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, who was one of the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest. One of his favorite things to wear is his knitted scarf (something his Granny made him).
