I recently got received a book from bookmooch with mild stains (prewarned!) on the cover. This is a copy of a library book I *loved* for years which was all black. The stained part is kinda an offgrey, so I was thinking I would just paint it black.

However, due to the magical nature of the book (Support Your Local Wizard :D) I decided some little designs would be in order.

Anyone have any ethereal or mystical looking designs they'd like to suggest? Colorwise, the spine-text is a shiny gold, and I think I have some gold/copper acrylic paint left over (plus a wide variety of normal acrylics). Images appreciated, of course!

Thanks :D

Peach Pit

I was in a bad mood last night.
I chose to be productive with my destructive desires and, inspired by this post, I decided to try carving a peach pit.

I started off by cleaning it. I eat my peaches when they're still a little stiff, so it was totally easy to do. And then, I studied the shape of the pit, and this one actually had a very appealing design that was begging to be cut from it.

These invaded my brain today.
And came out my hands.

(They're wee softies! And pins, you see?)

But they're also very dangerous... )

This is a pretty stupid question, but since the project is going to be a gift for a friend, I want to make as sure as possible that I don't mess it up. :)

My question is about lining of knitted things. I've made a scarf, and I want it to be lined on one side. (It's my version of a pi scarf and the lining is going to have either numbers or the pi symbol on. Eee.) So what I wanted to know was: is there anything I need to know about lining a knitted item that is in any way different than lining a non-knitted item? You still just fold over so there's a seam and then sew it, right? And should I go for/avoid any specific fabrics? I'm guessing lycra is out, hahah, but is there anything else I should know?

Good e'en, all ~

On this upcoming Sunday, the Bristol Renaissance Faire (near the IL/WI border) is the chosen occasion for a very Make-A-Wish style visit (as in, it's one of the last things she'll probably ever do) of the very close friend of a very close friend of mine. Arrangements are being worked on to make this as fulfilling an experience as possible -- the Bristol "family" has some truly amazing human beings in it -- but sometimes it's the little details that are hardest to work out. One such detail has me posting, at the moment.

Steve Fassl, who plays the character of Odorferious Thunderbottom, is known to give out glass "gems" to special patrons who win his heart. Well, the woman in question already has his heart, and he dearly wants to give her a glass heart when she visits with him. One problem -- he hasn't been able to get his hands on one since he started looking to buy new "gems" for this faire-season, at the end of last faire-season -- and now there's less than a week to go (not enough time to order online). So, I'm posting here to ask if anyone in the Chicagoland, IL -- Rockford, WI area knows where to find those small glass hearts (usually sold in the same area as the other glass pebbles, flattened marbles used for marble magnets, etc)...even if it's just one, in an assortment pack...or would be willing to give one up that they have, so it can play a part in a very special memory. There are Bristol p(l)atrons all over the area, so if you're willing to gift one instead of pointing to a place to buy one, you wouldn't have to deliver it to Bristol yourself...I'm betting someone would come pick it up from you.

I know this isn't related to crafting, but since a lot of crafters use them, it seemed a good place to ask. Thank you kindly, on behalf of everyone touched by this.

EDIT -- OTB has what he wants, now. Thanks to all who wanted to help!
