Here is a commissioned quilt I (finally) finished a few weeks ago. I was asked to make a quilt from the old shirts of a friend whose father had recently died. All of the fabrics in the top are from his clothes except for the red. I threw that in to break up the blues and greens, and also because I wanted to put something in the quilt that represented her life and her father always being with her in it.

Shauna's Quilt

Some of the fabrics were really difficult to work with, so I expected a much shoddier product. I'm pleased with the result It's masculine and kind of homey and cozy, all things I think the recipient was hoping for. She loved it!

Beaded ring

Dear friends!
Last winter I started weaving beaded flowers of different colours. Occasionally I invented a new type of weaving beaded rosettes and called it Bysantine rosette. It was so fascinating for me, that I wove of about twenty rosettes to try different colour combinations, but did not know what to do with them: make necklases? pendants? An idea sparkled suddenly - rings!
So, here is one of the rings, I called it "Bysantine" for its colours look this way for me.

question.

For those of you on my friends list, i apologize that you are hearing about this twice. For the rest of you, here's my question.
My beloved cat/best friend Spike has left us. Both my boyfriend and i are devasted, but i want to do something to remember him. something physical i can take with me. the problem is i want to make something for my boyfriend as well, so i dismissed the idea of jewelry.

if it hadn't been for my bf, i wouldn't have made it through the day. i know he loved Spike as much as humanly possible, and he's taking this hard as well.
any ideas ladies/gents?
here's a picture of my brave boy.

I don't see a lot of household-related projects on here, but I've been busy making my new apartment match my style, which requires plenty of DIY. This is my xmas-light lamp, and skateboard deck shelf!
The lamp used to be this horrible gold monstrosity with an enormous off-white shade. I sprayed the base a high-gloss black, and used one of those lightbulb-to-plug converters they sell for doing outdoor lighting to plug in two strands of white christmas lights. The light strands are wound in a ball around the harp, and I can turn it on/off with the light's switch- it looks pretty goofy off, but for fire-safety sake I don't leave it on when I'm not in the room.

(Yes, the table is made from a beer keg. I had a party at my old place right before I moved, and never got around to returning the keg.)

I found this old skateboard deck outside my parents' house about a year ago, but never really got around to doing much with it. I finally got my ass over to home depot and picked up some metal brackets, and recruited my fiance to help me find the wall studs:) Rather than dealing with bolts/nuts on the deck itself, I just superglued the wood to the brackets. It seems to be working so far! It makes a great bookshelf/dump yer crap on the way in the door shelf.

I also have a coat rack made from the trunk of this past Christmas's tree, but no decent photos of it:P Anyone have any inspiring DIY ideas I can jack?

Sorry for the non-picture post. I am in desperate need of a pattern for a good remote control caddy. One of those fabric jobs that usually hangs over the side of the sofa. It should be able to accomodate at least 3 remotes and a video game controller. All online searches have turned up the pre-made ones to purchase and I already have some cute fabric for it at home. TIA!

Hello everyone!  I have been racking my brain for useful/interesting ideas to recycle plastic bottle caps (the ones on soda bottles and similar drinks), but I have come up with NOTHING, basically.  I skimmed through the memories, but didn't see anything relevant.  Does anyone have any good ideas or links for me?

I've recently been accepted into my first craft fair (hooray!), and I'm primarily making little books and notecards from reclaimed paper. Any ideas on how to display them? I'm sharing my 10' x 20' indoor booth with four other artists/crafters, and they make either paintings or jewelry, so I have to be flexible about how things will be set up (intermingled with their stuff). I know having things on different levels will help add interest and draw people in, but after that, without buying a display rack or something, I'm a bit of a loss. Most of the displays people talk about in the craftster forums and in this community, for example, are not for small flat objects like books and notecards. Also, the last entry in the memories section was in January, 2007, and I'm a special special snowflake who needs new replies. :)

Some of my random, unfocused-as-of-yet ideas and questions:

+ Do you think baskets of upright books and notecards will encourage people to flip through them, or discourage them from looking too closely?

+ What about just clothes-pinning items to ribbons and seeing if I can hang the ribbons somewhere? Yay or nay?

+ Have any of you sold at craft fairs (silly question, I know you have), and if so, do you feel comfortable sharing how you set things up? (Pictures would be fabulous.)

+ If you have sold at craft fairs, do you recommend taking credit cards? Since it's my first time, and my items are probably all going to be under $20, I'm disinclined to bother with it, but if you have a compelling reason why you think I ought to, please share.

I've read a bunch of "first time at the craft fair?" lists, but natch, I like hearing from the voice of experience, so feel free to toss out other random advice.

And just so this isn't me asking questions, here are the little notebooks that I was juried on for the fair.

Thanks so much for any advice and help!

Also, if you're in the DC area, let me know and I can give you more info and directions to the fair -- it looks like it's going to be neat.

P.S. I think we ought to have a "craft fair" tag so that if something isn't primarily a craft fair post (so it doesn't make it into the memories section), but has craft fair elements in it, we can find it. :)

So I made this out of some old pants and a pillow case...

I've never tried selling anything I have made but have all this material and am thinking of making some wallets/handbags, and this is my first try...

would you buy it or think other people would buy it? how much would you pay or how much do you think people would be willing to pay?

its a wallet )

I'm sure some of you crafty girls make soap around here!
I really have been wanted to try and have read a little bit on the net but I figured this was the best place to go..
It sounds kind of complicated, is it really?
SOOO i guess what I'm asking is where do I start, what do I need, any easy recipes to start off?
I know Michaels has kits, it can't really be as complicated as it sounds can it?!
Thankyou for any help in advance!!

Here is a celtic pendant
For my sorrow, I'm not a specialist in celtic ornaments, but I know, of course, that every ornament has its sacred meaning. Could you, please, help me and say, what have I loomed, what does my ornament (taken from a web-site with celtic ones) mean? Thanks in advance.
