OK so money is super tight this year. I need some ideas of crafty gifts that I can make and give to the millions of kids in my family. (5, not millions, lol) I was thinking of making playdough but that might not be enough :\ ANY ideas/suggestions would be amazingly appreciated!

Hey guys!
So do any of you cross stitch? I ask because I decided to do some funky little pieces as Christmas presents this year (silly, rude captions and such) and wanting to add a picture to one, I started researching ways to make your own charts online. There were a couple of dead links (my favourite text generator by the way is at stitchpoint.com - really great) so I figured I could manage something, and found a pretty decent and easy way to get one out of Photoshop. I know it's a bit early but they have to be mailed (and maybe sold at the store where i work) but I decided to design and start printing my Christmas cards for this year!

The cards will be attached to red or green card stock and inside it will say Merry Christmas Deerie

and not just because it's Columbus Day, either. (happy Native American Day to those in South Dakota.)

this is made of sterling silver chain, carnelian, citrine, and crystal. I bought the stones at an incredible bead market in Seoul (Dongdaemun if you're interested). it's around 20" long, which is a little long for me, but perfect for anyone who's not 5'2". :P

I made a couple of things for the con this weekend.

Piew piew! )

I had a lot of fun at the con, and there were some amazing costumes. I was working, which is why I only made the skirt (which I got a lot of comments on, a few from people who had had those sheets when they were kids). I also had a lot of fun making the Mario bag, the lining is from a bedsheet as well, which also has images from the Legend of Zelda, so there'll be more video-game bags in the future.
Thanks for looking :)

toxic?

hi grrls,
i have another question concerning fimo / polymer clay.
i heard that after baking it in the oven, the oven needs to be cleaned very carefully because apparently the fimo is toxic?
if so, would it be bad to use cookie cutters to cut out shapes? - cutters which i then still want to use for cookies, that is.

also, what kind of colors would i be using to color some salt dough objects?

thanks for your help, ladies!

Sentimentality.
I have this bad sometimes.
Which means I don't get rid of things that I really should.
Like wee clothes that my children have grown out of.

See this happy cow?

My drama club is putting on a Haunted House. We did one last year, but it was small and we're teaming up with the art club to make this years even huge. So far we've decided on having a graveyard theme, a fortune teller theme, a zombie theme, pirate theme, also a sitting room with people-like a demented tea party type of theme, and the entrance is going to be a bog. Do you have any links to making fake scars, or cheap decoration ideas or anything that may help? We went to party city and another halloween store, but the decorations are so expensive and won't fit on our budget. Any help I can get from you guys would be AWSM.

The only thing that will be a problem is a fog machine. We put it in our haunted house last year and it set up the fire alarm!

Two posts in one day. I apologize if that's not allowed - I can take it down - I've just been craftier than usual lately.

vintage buttons, thread. these are not hard to make if you can get your hands on studs, but I had a hard time finding them.

Hello crafty ladies, I have a bit of a question regarding where to buy foam.

Basically I want to go as ms. pacman for halloween, and I want to take foam (egg carton foam, carpet foam, etc.) and make a circular shape. I would be using a hula hoop to give it shape, and duct taping the foam together.

The question is...where would I find foam? I had the idea of home depot but I'm not terribly positive. Any ideas?

EDIT: Thanks ladies I'm off to the fabric store per the advice!

And so it's not text only, here's a lunchbox I did for a british swap )

Alis

So, a little while ago I found two barbies in a charity shop for a pound each. And then I found a 'fashion doll' in woolworths for another pound. And I bought them all, and schemed.

I've just finished modding the fashion doll, who I have named Alis. She is now ostensibly a clockwork doll, colored antique gold with copper hair, facial features, and wiring, brass rivets, and a brass key in her back. (Which does turn, but does not make her do anything, sadly.) I was aiming for a bit of a steampunky feel.

I'm very happy with this project, total cost was about five pounds not counting paints and brushes which I had lying around anyway. I do want to apply some kind of sealant to her though. Any suggestions? I was thinking about maybe just spraying her with clear spray paint.

Next up, something a bit more witchy.
