I actually MADE something today. I'm shocked. My crochet hooks were so dusty I almost could not find them. I haven't crafted in so so long.

Models?

My 10 year old has to make a model of a building by a famous architect. I can't remember the name of the guy or the name of the building but it's in Finland and they want it as detailed as she can get it.

(For the record, I never had to do this stuff when I was 10!)

Anyways... what is easiest for her to use. From what I can describe of the building there aren't any rounded pieces to it. It's pretty straight edged but with angles.

Is it easier to tape together thicker pieces of posterboard? What about cutting those styrofoam blocks you can get at the hobby store? What is cheap and easy for her to work with?

EDIT!

I found the building she's doing:

I had no intention of dressing up our 6 week old son this year for Halloween. Well, my husband just forwarded me an email from his office manager inviting all the new babies in the office to the annual pie contest on Halloween. There has been a baby boom in his office over the past year or so, so she wants to have a costume contest in addition to the pie contest.

The main problem is that I am on maternity leave, and will not get another paycheck this year, so money is extremely tight. I already feel like we're really splurging just on the pie ingredients (I'm making a dark chocolate pumpkin pie). I really have no intention of going out and buying a costume this year just for this.

What are some great easy and creative costume ideas that I can make with what I have?
He has plain white onesies that I can alter with paint, fabric pens, or fabric (I have lots of fabrics). He also has a solid brown onesie that I'd rather not alter permanently, solid sky blue, sage, and oatmeal colored ones as well. He has solid brown, sky blue, and navy blue pants. He may have other pants, but I'd have to look, haha. It's been too hot here for him to even wear pants, so I'm not sure what I have tucked away.

I don't have any sort of makeup/face paint, but I could get some if I need to black the tip of his nose or draw on a mustache or anything. I could spend $5-$10 on supplies if needed, but no more than that.

My husband's idea was to dress him up like daddy, since everyone says he takes after him. In that case, we'd need thick glasses and a beard. Any suggestions for how to best do those, if we go that way? I'll include a picture of my husband for reference, if it helps. )
Thanks so much, and I'll be sure to post pictures of what we come up with!

Oh! His name is Marshall, but his nickname is Mars, if that inspires any creativity. Thanks!

I made this for my boyfriend's bday last week. He's a general contractor, so I assembled different tools of the trade to spell out his name. Then I took a pic of each "letter", printed, matted then framed.

I'm not happy with the frame cuz it was very last minute. He has 4 letters in his name and all pre-matted frames I could find either had 3 or 5 spaces. Grrr. So this is a temporary matte/frame until I can find something nicer. He loved it cuz he loves photography and of course he loves tools!!

My boyfriends' grandmother came into town recently and the last time I saw her she wanted me to make her a cozie... since I make a lot of them, So I went to the store and found a bright colorful skein of yarn since she's a very bright person.

I also made a Lincoln box to hold some of my bead stuff in out of an old tissue box... this would be a great idea for those of you who want to make little gifts and need a nice box to put it in...

Cozies and Mr. Lincoln FTW! )

Sunday, a woman at my dad's church handed me a charm and asked me how much I'd charge her to turn it into a charm bracelet she could wear everyday. I told her I'd go ahead and put it together and then quote a price.

Here it is:

Now, for a couple of questions...

She's got the 6.5 inch wrist, so I made the bracelet 7".
Is this too big?
Is this too much or not enough for daily use?
What would one charge for something like this?
With all the stuff I bought, it cost about $7.00 to make and so I was thinking $15.00 would be a modest amount but don't want to cheat her or myself. I'm very VERY new to selling (just sold my first pieces two weeks ago) and love it but I'm told by friends and family that my prices are too low for the work I do.

What do you guys charge as a general idea?

Please help!! I want to give the bracelet to her on Sunday and plan on calling her tomorrow or the next day to let her know the price.

Thanks ahead of time!

Another project done as part of my steampunk costume for my girl friend's Halloween wedding.

This hatpin took three days to make. I had to wait for the glue to season enough for me to connect the dangling stars and then the clasp bells. I love clasp bells because the jingling is very subtle. It makes me very happy to have them on me as accessory. Especially, since this pin is going to be behind my head near my ears. I also love wearing five point stars as my sign of faith.
