Hi! I usually just watch you fabulous people, but I have a question (and I checked the memories first, so no worries. ;) )

Is there a way to temporarily dye a white tuxedo shirt? Temporarily being the key word here. The shirt needs to be white again afterwards. It needs to be pink for about a month.

If there is a way:
a) what is it?
b) afterwards, how do you remove the dye (washing/bleaching?)
c) will sweat cause it to run?
d) if the person was wearing, for example, the (dyed) tuxedo shirt underneath a dinner jacket that had a light-colored lining, would it harm/dye the lining? (and if it did, could it be dry-cleaned out? :/)

I'm teching for a production of Forever Plaid, and we have a very tight costuming budget, so the actors are using their own tux shirts. Best case scenerio would be pink tux shirts, but I'm not sure if that can be pulled off. Thanks for any help. :)

I've been surfing the net for quite some time looking for old vintage ads/comics. I haven't found anything that I really like though. Anyone know any sites?
I'm looking to iron something on a bag.

ok so im in this craft/zine collective and once we get our butts in gear we are going to make lots of crafy things and publish zines on all sorts of stuff to sell at zine fairs, book fairs, things like ladyfest, etc. now i decided one of the things im going to make are knitted bags but im not sure how to price them.

each bag will be fairly big. like those army satchel bags. that size. and all hand knit, lined with pretty silk or satin, whatever i can find at value village in the way of scarves/blouses etc. and im going to be putting my vintage buttons to use on them. the buttons i already own but they are from the 60/70's so are i guess somewhat valuable. the yarn costs like $3/bag and the lining and lace/embroidery/other embelishments will probably cost a $1 or $2 so supplies will cost like $5 total. but it takes probably a week at least to knit a bag and that means sore hands.

im thinking $15 (canadian). does that sound fair? too much? too little? tell me what you think.

there's a lot of work to be done in my apartment and i'm trying to take it one step at a time.
i looked through the FAQs and the memories and i didn't see anything about these two things:
1)does anyone have any ideas for making lightswitch covers?
2)i have lots of vintage wrapping paper and no ideas about what to do with it. maybe decoupage something? i've never done that before but i could learn!

thank you crafty girls. you are inspiring.

Okay, I know it's pretty much self explainatory, but I want the "official" instructions anyway. *grin*

The bottle of Fabric Mod Podge that I got (the only one in the store) had a huge price sticker right over the instructions. I tried to be careful...but I ended up ripping off part of the instructions and the other part has the sticker still stuck to it (damn you, WalMart!).

So could someone grab their bottle and and type up what it says? *sheepish grin* I'd really appreciate it!!

I'm new here so be gentle.
My name is Elle, (Four letter L, girl in french)
I'm quite a crafty gal and spring break is coming and summer right behind it so I'll have more crafting time coming up soon.
I love making collages and clothes out of other clothes. My friend and I have a zine.
I make purses out of little boy underwear.
I love colors , bright ones are the best.
I love making everything I own unquie to me.
In six grade a girl in my class wore the same shirt as me once, so after school i went to the store and dyed my shirt bright pink. I've been a handful since.
Thats all for now.

I know we aren’t supposed to post about trade/sales, but I have a question. Are there lj communities out there specifically for buying/selling/trading hand made items and crafts? I know there is the forsale community, but that mostly has used clothes for sale.

If anyone knows a community like what I'm describing please tell me and if not if someone wants to start one I have an extra lj code to use.

thank you!

please read and respond.

does art contribute to society in a positive way? if you say yes, are you just saying that because youve been socialized to place extra sentimental value on art/music/literature??

-button holes
-zig zag stich
-a throat plate that gives exact measurements (ex: 3/8, 5/8)
-easy to use
-easy to thread
-not extremely expensive

and i thought id include pictures of my favorite thing that ive made so far :)

for the fronts: pick out 2 pages from magazines that you like, glue them on something like computer paper.
for the sides: pick out another page of a magazine that you like, glue it to computer paper and cut it in the center, lengthwise.
for the bottom: find another picture of something you like, and make it 8"-3". glue it to computer paper.
for the inside: glue the computer paper (with the magazine page on top, of course) to the comics or something in the news paper.
once you're done gluing and cutting, use contact paper to laminate the front and backs of the pages.
...
with a sewing machine, turn the stich selecter, choose the zig zag stich. sew the sides together with a size 18 needle first and the bottom on last.

for the strap: hammer those round, gold, metal things in the sides.. i dont know what theyre called. then, put a ribbon in and sew the bottom of the strap several times so that it won't rip.

after much talk of how i was going to do this, i'm FINALLY ready to make the most kick-ass tube top to grace the face of the earth: i've come up with a design that will have david bowie's face knitted into the front. however, to get enough detail, i need at least 75 stitches across the front (which is a bit tricky, considering i want it to be rather tight). so my question is:

what is the finest yarn you have all worked with, and how tight a gauge where you able to get with it? i'm trying to avoid the hassle of buying a bunch of different kinds of yarn and experiment (i'm impatient, and mr. bowie needs to grace my bosom NOW). and does anyone have any suggestions for a super-soft lightweight yarn?

thanks in advance!
