I don't have any kids so this never really crossed my mind. I found (one of my nephews) old navy overalls. Size 24-30 months. Green corduroy. The way it was folded it looked like it could be a great bag. leaving the front and back pockets intact. I was wondering has anyone ever made a bag this way, or what I should do about the straps. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Now *this* is a good and useful idea.

Sealing wax for glue guns

The site says it *is* sealing wax, just formulated for a glue gun, but I'd definitely have a dedicated gun *just* for the wax.

Hey there -- I'm a first time poster, but have been lurking for a while. I love checking out all the cool crafty stuff you guys post, I get so inspired to be creative! Gold stars for you kids.

Anyway, my husband and I got this unfinished cabinet thingy from IKEA and went nuts finishing and painting it...and here's the result! It's not super-sparkly-creative, but looks nice and is a great home for our obscenely large collection of pint glasses.

hello all :) i've been lurking for a while, but decided to say hello and show two of my recent cakes that i made. first though, it's so great to see that i am not the only one who wants to be crafty rather than buy things. :) i love the ideas i see here, and you all are so talented, really! :)

i recently got into decorating cakes, after taking on the responsibility for making the grooms cake for my soon to be husband for our wedding :) i wanted some practice, so made a cake for my friends birthday, and then one for the fourth of july a few weeks later.

hey kids. i think this is my first post here. well, i was reading about the CD disco ball thing and it made me think...my band made about 200 copies of an EP we rush-recorded to take on tour in june, but sold only about 70. we hate the damn things and plan on keeping the jewel cases but just throwing out the actual CDs and the sleeves. total waste right? so i was wondering what other kinds of things i could make with about 130 cds? maybe i'll make my xmas presents early this year haha. any help is appreciated seeing as how my imagination seems to be stalled at the moment. thanks! -bri zine

So OCCASIONALLY when I'm placing large bead and finding orders I miss a letter or two
and receive an unwanted surprise..I somehow ordered 100 End caps

I have NO idea what these do! I'm self taught, and I missed this page...

http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=WE2201FN&GEN1=end%20caps&GEN2=2

Is what I ordered...the hole is tiny, like a beading wire is about the most you could get through it, but the cap itself is LARGE.. like 1/3rd inch wide?? so I don't get it...not at all...if I thread anything through it it's going to end up looking like a bell..
any ideas on how these work? I'm sure i'm missing a very simple step..

Hello -- I've been lurking for quite a while, and since you all have such creative minds, I'm sure you'll be able to help me out. :)

I found 1 and 1/3 yards of a cute dinosaur print in a remnant pile for cheap, but am not sure what to make for my little boys with it. I've made them pillows and pillowcases already, so want to avoid that... any good ideas? TIA!

hi all,

know it's been a while since i posted here (guilty-face), but just wanted to do a quick update for everyone who expressed interest about the local DIY group i was talking about starting up a few months ago.
the which, by the way, a HUGEBIG thank you to everyone who posted suggestions and comments. muchly appreciated!
anyway, the denvergoff DIY group has been up and running for about two months now and we have a rotating membership of about 30 regular attendees, and the mailing list has just a little more than that. i know some people had expressed interest in participating or at least being on a group list, if i started one, remotely, so i thought i'd put it out there for everyone who might want to follow along even if you don't have the great good luck to live in Colorado:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/denvercraftygoffs/
i'm going to move the group and list to its own domain eventually, but yahoo will do for now. :} we sew, paint, sculpt, make chainmail, do beading, make jewelry, do papercrafts and bookbinding, restore antique clothing, make curtains, recycle lampshades, crochet, modify bikes, make and restore furniture, wrangle fake hair, putter about with millinery, do leatherwork, tat, make bath products and candles, and just about everything and anything else you can think of.
please feel free to join up!

thanks again to everyone. ;)

So, I finally made some sockdogs!

The tan argyle one was a practice dog. He came out really well but he's very worn out in the mouth area. waa! His tail is weird though.

The pink stripped one was my next one. I made it for my daughter. (despite the fact that she has a million stuffed animals!) It's back legs were way too long so I had to redo them. I like the super skinny tail on her. My daughter named this one "Sniffy."

The navy blue one is a present for a friend who is letting me stay with her this weekend. She has a dog named Ebi who is some sort of little dog with a smooshed up nose (boston terrier maybe?) I tried to make the sock dog look as much like Ebi as possible. We'll see if I was successful this weekend!

I used the Martha Stewart directions but when I was putting the head on I coudln't figure it out. I sewed it into a face shape and put it on upside down (so the heel is where the mouth is not where the eyes/nose are). I think it looks pretty good. (I found another site once with better directions but I can no longer find it! I'm pretty sure the site was from a Scandinavian country.)

I didn't add paws, I left the legs straight which I think looks just fine. I did stitching for a mouth with embroidery thread.. I tried putting on eyebrows but it looked bad and I took it out.

I added collars to the dogs to hide the Dr. Frankenstein connection between the head and the body. I sewed a little jump ring on the collars to, so you can attach a leash of course!

I did as much sewing as I could with the machine which made this a very fast project. I did the hand sewing while watching videos with my daughter.

cute pic of my daughter holding the dogs behind this cut! )

Though this is my first post, I have been lurking for quite a while. I made a duct tape bracelet. Mum didn't want me using the tape, but I rebelled. XD! I haven't made anything crafty for ages, because I don't have any materials. I'm hoping to put together a crafting kit so that when the mood hits, I can put something together. I have always loved making things, crafting is in my blood! ^_^

I had an idea today...

My backpack is WAY too small. I can't find any bigger ones and although we get lockers, they're far too small (they're tiny and it's 2-3 people to a locker) and we don't get enough time to use them, so no one does and we carry everything in our backpacks. I have another backpack that the zipper is broken on, I was planning on cutting out the widest strips possible (the two backpacks have nearly the same dimensions) from the old dead one and cutting my current one and sewing in that fabric from the old one to make it larger....do you think this would work? I don't think I'm making much sense so I made a quick paint-diagram of what I mean....

i am curious about how to make a shirt with a "fuzzy" picture on it.
one that has a texture that feels kind of furry.
does anyone have a clue what this is and how to do it?

im into the whole making cards for people thing write now.

anyone have any pictures of cute cards they've made, or websites with how-to's?

does anyone have the Kenmore MiniUltra sewing machine? i havent been able to get mine to work, and ive sewn many-a-time before and never had this problem.

with the bobbin in the bobbin case and the needle properly threaded, the needle won't catch the bobbin making sewing not possible. has anyone had that problem? what am i missing?

does anyone have an inexpensive sewing machine to recommend? my mini was 80, but i could spend 100....

thanks very much for all your help and input. ::hearts:: to craftgrrl.

i made this last night out of some remnant material, felt, ribbon, and the bottom of a sweatshirt. lol. i loves it.
it did look like a beanie before the face and strap.

(there's some purple tulle in there behind the face with the ribbon...it is hard to see.)
i need to learn how to make something other than bags, magnets, or tee shirt reconstructions...lol.

Villagephotos sucks, I know. But my site doesn't allow remote hosting anymore, so i'll have to deal with it, for now.
and if the damn picture stops working, here's the link..
Anyway, the little dancing guy is from the CD cover of the faint's Danse Macabre. I'd been trying to make a stencil of him for the longest time, but I eventually gave up and free handed him. The bag's not finished, but i'm still proud of it.
It's now my college bag, though I need to fix the straps badly.

ive searched the memories, and i couldnt find anything, so i figured its safe to ask here (if ive completely missed something and you just point it out i can delete this entry). i was wondering what things you can do with yarn other than the regular crochet/knitting. i remember doing arts and crafts when i was younger with it, things like dream catchers and those pictures you would make with yarn and glue, but is there anything else? preferably something less little kid-ish, but actually i really want to know all possibilities! thanks so much!

first of all...i got this idea from the girl who did this same stencil of conor in [livejournal.com profile] t_shirt_surgery. i'm not really done with it but i love the way it came out. i also did one with white ink on a black shirt but it looked weird to me. i am going to put the lyrics "with eyes that burn so bright they make me pure" under the picture. my boyfriend is busy making the stencil for me.

the second thing i did was this canvas bag. i bought it at hobby lobby for $3.99. i stenciled a brontosaurus, a pink stripe, and i also did a stitch along both of the handles in green thread. i love this thing.

i hope this isn't really off topic, but i remember coming across a craft website that offered free hosting for craft websites, and i wish i had bookmarked it, and i can't remember the url! does anyone know of this site, or any craft site that hosts? thankyou!
[identity profile] swissamyromance.livejournal.com
this is just an idea...but i'm thinking i want to make a car air freshener, like cut it out from felt or something, and then stuff it with pretty smelling things and sew it up. so, my question is, what is a material that will hold scent well, and what is a good substance (i guess?) to use. essential oils or dried flower petals or something?

also: i'm all about collaging right now (i've done a journal, a binder, and a plastic pencil case...getting ready for back to school!), so does anyone have any ideas for what other things to collage?

Hiya, I'm new to the community... :-)

My boyfriend n me have been living a couple of streets away from each other for almost 2 years, but he's just finished university here and is moving to another university in the next city along. I want to give him a box of things that remind him of us and of how much I luv him - pictures, memories, letters, a stick of my fave incense etc. I've got a little clear plastic wallet/box thingy, a bit bigger than A5 size, and I want to use that but don't know how to decorate it (it's not smooth - it has lots of little raised lines on it). I have some of that window-sticker paint and thought about using that, but it tends to stay kinda sticky if you press it against stuff. Any ideas what I could use to decorate the box? Or any other suggestions for what I could put in it?

Slowing getting over my fear of posting. :)
A question.

My housemate needs to send a package.
He makes bread from scratch. And one of his friends asked him to send the ingredients for one of his batches of bread to them.

So raw, scaled ingredients.
However, the packaging also has to be crafty, or creative.
While keeping the weight down (it's going from here in Canada to the US...).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Gratuitous link to our home bakery! It's craftyish, right? ;)
