Sep. 11th, 2003 07:18 amHello :) Long time reader, first time poster here. I hope that's okay with all you grrls.
I just bought some new Sharpies, and I'm itching to use them, but I have no idea what to do with them? What are they good for? Any projects you guys have done? I heard that they're permanent on glass and such, is that true? Thanks for your help!

Sep. 11th, 2003 10:00 amI am heading off to Joanns later today, but was wondering if any of you knew right offhand if anyone makes a hospital gown pattern. I am thinking that if not, I might get lucky and find one in the Halloween costumes section. My little sister (20, not that little, I guess.) was in a pretty bad car accident and will be in the hospital for a while, and I wanted to make her some nice, funky gowns, instead of the crappy hospital issue ones.
If there isn't a pattern, does anyone have access to a gown that I can deconstruct and make my own pattern from? Maybe the hospitals in town would give me one that is ripped or something.
Also! Have any of you even been in the hospital for long periods of time, and have ideas on what kind of gifts would be good?
(Edit: Usual gifts of slippers, food, etc aren't really applicable in this case. She's currently paralyzed from her chest down and can't do much with her arms either. I know this makes gift-giving a lot harder, but maybe someone has been in the same situation.)

modpodge help!
Sep. 11th, 2003 10:20 ami need some modpodge help! my best friend's birthday is next week and i bought a wood box at michael's and i'm going to paint it. she's in love with dashboard confessional, so i wanted to modpodge a picture of him onto the box and put lyrics all over it. i was going to print the picture from internet. can i modpodge right onto the wood or should i paint it and varnish it first? will the printed picture cause a problem with the modpodge? would it be better if i found a picture in a magazine?
thanks in advance!!!

stuck in a rut
Sep. 11th, 2003 11:54 amHi all,
I think I've only posted here once or twice with a question and everyone was super helpful with their advice. I wish I was posting more about all the hot crafty things I'm making but...I have none.
I remember days where I'd slave over a friends' birthday gift and admire it proudly when I was finished...days where painting, decorating, gluing, cutting, coloring, etc were things I never lacked motivation to do.
But now, I have lost my mojo. I blame college, because I studied computer science, and there wasn't much room for artsy creativity in my monotonous routine. And now that I've graduated and have plenty of free evenings for crafting, I instead make easy mac, watch Paradise hotel, and sluggishly mope around my apartment. Plus, I suck.
I need inspiration. A pep talk. What do you guys do when you feel as though you're lazy, boring and uncreative?
Thanks in advance.

BoBo the Bear
Sep. 11th, 2003 12:08 pmWell it took me 6 days, at about 2 hours a day (keep in mind i also had to start over a few times) but i finally finished my croceted teddy bear. I've called him BoBo.
I used this pattern. as you can see, my bear came out a bit differently. he's kind of lopsided and i didn't have any brown chenille (i will soon...chenille is really cheap on ebay!) but i had an abundance of this cream colored yarn so i decided to use that.
the scarf bobo is wearing was free-formed...no pattern used.
so without further ado, i give you:
( BoBo the Bear(i warn you the pictures are large) )
That was BoBo...he loves you, seriously...he told me so...
i don't know if i'll keep BoBo, give him as a xmas gift, or try to sell him. i didn't think he came out nice enough to sell...a few people i've asked seemed to think so but they aren't crocheters.
anyway, im rather proud of him :)

Knitting question on cuffs
Sep. 11th, 2003 01:33 pmI am just learning to knit, and I was trying to find a pattern or something to make a more stretchy cuff like you find at the end of a sweater cuff. I am not sure what it's called so my google searches are turning up some odd stuff that isn't helping. Any help you can give me would be really appreciated. If that doesn't make sense, tell me and I will try to clarify. Bonus points for online tutorials!
Heylows! Im movin back to Florida on Saturday and while packin I came across my old Scrabble game...I checked and it still looks fairly new except for those 3 or 4 letters that im missing....any ideas on what I could use any of it for? The letters? The board? The wood slabs that hold the letters?

Sep. 11th, 2003 08:41 pmHello everyone. I'm Gina, and I'm addicted to glass/mirror etching.
My etchings over the years under the cuts.
( gift for a friend )
( crispin glover lyrics )
( mmm, slytherin )
( C. R. )
( D. L. )
I etched all these by covering them in masking tape, drawing, cutting out the pieces with my regular exacto, and etching. Hooray!

Sep. 11th, 2003 10:01 pmHas anybody used the ProvoCraft Sew Crafty mini sewing machine? We started selling them at work not long ago, and I was just wondering if anybody knew if it was any good or just a $13 piece of crap.
Thanks in advance. =)

Made from striped knit fabric salvaged from Goodwill at a mere $3.99 CDN for roughly 3 metres. It was a steal.
This is what I did: Roughly measured the width of the top of my calf, just under my kneecap, and cut two long rectangles that slightly flared at one end. I used a stretch straight stitch to make each of the rectangles into a tube. I didn't bother to hem either end since I really enjoy how the fabric doesn't fray but rolls instead.
It was very simple and took me less than 10 minutes to make.
