Ok, so for Christmas I finally decided to buy my mother a cappuccino machine that she has wanted for years. Even though I know that she wants it, I still hate giving her something so impersonal. I decided to include a coffee with and I want to make something to put in and give to her with the machine. Does anyone have any ideas of something that i can make to put in it. (FYI - I unfortunately do not know how to knit, crochet, or sew!!)
Thanks in advance

because i really know nothing about various glues available, i'm wondering if anyone can help.

you know the glue that they use to glue little samples onto magazine pages? it's kinda gummy and you can pull it off without wrecking the page?

does anyone know where to get glue like that? what kinda glue is it?

i'm making a wedding card for a friend and i really want to make marble magnets that spell out their names and glue them onto the card, but i don't want the card to be ruined when they take them off, nor do i want the magnets to have paper stuck on the back.

any ideas?

Alright crafties, here's my dilema:
My niece will have her first birthday in a couple of weeks.
I have her birthday present already, but I'd like to make her an outfit for Christmas. I bought some great bright yellow corduroy, and I want to make her a little jacket, a pair of pants, and a skirt out of it so she can be a cheery ray of sunshine all winter. My God, that is the cheesiest thing I've ever said; I apologize.
Anyway, I can wing the skirt and the pants. The jacket, however, I am not willing to try without a pattern or some serious guidance. I want to use some cute toggle closures I bought (they have teddy bears on them) but I'm willing to skip them and use them on something else if I find a good pattern.
I've looked in the FAQ's and can't find any pertinent info about baby patterns or ideas.
I've never sewn clothing for children, so your help is appreciated.
Can anybody point me in the right direction for patterns, info, moral support?
Suggestions?
Call me an idiot for asking a stupid question?
Make fun of my shoes?

would anyone be offended if i made a craftgrrl uk site? it's hardly gonna take over fromthis one, heh, but it might be handy for the uk people to ask questions and get them answered without the words 'michaels', 'joannes' or 'walmart'... ;)
so, whaddaya think?
[identity profile] calliek.livejournal.com
I just learned to crochet.

OK, when you use weird yarn, like fun fur, or that curly crap, do you just wing it? Cause I can't see actually knowing where to stitch on some of these yarns.

Also, does anyone here make their own tags for things? And how?

Drunken crafting rocks.

A few years ago I bought a Nightmare Before Christmas t-shirt, one of the really thick ones with a tight band around the neck that was uncomfortable to wear and didn’t look very flattering on me, chopping off the sleeves just made it worse. I thought of making it into a cushion, but after reading a few of your posts I now have the idea of turning it into a tote bag. I’ll post pictures when it’s done :-)

i know this sounds like an odd question, but has anyone ever tried hot-gluing photographs to plexiglas?

what would any of you recommend for attaching photographs to it, along with small metal and plastic things? it's a Christmas gift for my boy, and i'm just wondering what kind of adhesive you all would suggest. perhaps hot glue isn't the best idea, but i'm sure someone's got a better one that would work with the plexiglas.

thankies!

Awhile back there was a post asking for the directions to make a shag rug that I think was in Seventeen Magazine or something like that. Anyhow, can anyone point me to that post?

Thanks.

I've never sewn before, but decided I wanted to make a quilt, so I bought tons of leftover squares of fabric though laundromatic.
Now I have all this fabric and not any idea of where to start.
Could I hand sew them? Should I just sew them all together? Should I buy one really big piece of fabric and end up sewing all the mini pieces onto that? Do I need batting? Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks!

I just wanted to make a specific post about This to That so I could put it in the faq under "adhesives". It's a site that is specifically devoted to glues and what to use to glue this to that.

I definitely think we get enough questions on gluing things to start it's own section.

I'd like to find instructions on sewing hats out of fleece. Nothing fancy, just your average winter hat, made out of fleece. I know they have to be easy, but I am too stupid to figure it out.

I checked the memories, and all of those links were for knitted or crocheted hats.

Thanks!!!!

ASAP. It looks pretty easy. I'd make the waist like straight to save time. Does anyone know where I could find a pattern for this?

Has anyone ever made scented candles using essential oils? Something tells me it won't work, but I'm curious.
[identity profile] hermintage.livejournal.com
So, inspired by a previously made post, I was thinking about making some of those wrapping paper candles for some Christmas presents.

My question is...

The gift shop that I work in sells lots of nice gift wrap stuff, and lots of really pretty printed tissue paper. Would the tissue paper/wax paper/vellum be a bad idea to cover a candle with, would it cause more harm than good in the end when you lit the candle?

I know I've seen somebody on Trading Spaces use vellum on candles, but I can't remember if they did anything special to it to make it candle-ready...and I think I've seen this post in this community before but I can't find it now! So sorry if it's doubled up!

Thanks in advance!

anyone know any site with easy to follow steps on how to make sleep masks?
[identity profile] warheart.livejournal.com
i want to get these really pretty purple mugs that i saw at salvation army but i want to personalize them by painting my friends names on them. what kind of paint is pretty tough and will stand up to being washed (not in a dishwasher but hand washed many times)?
thanks :)
--edit--
i also wanted to ask another question but i might as well put it in the same post. i saw these jack skellington hair sticks the other day in hot topic and i thought hmm i could probably make those. however i've never used sculpey or fimo or any clay at all. do you have to bake it in the oven? i was thinking that to make the same hair sticks i could get chopsticks, paint them black with nailpolish or acrylic, and sculpt the little jack head out of clay to go on the top of each one. would this work or does it sound like it will fall apart on the first use?

I looked through the memories and through the calendar, but I can't seem to find the post with the pictures of the fleece scarves that someone made. The scarves were really cute and several had kitties on them. I liked the way the cats were made and want to try to duplicate them for use on other projects. If anyone could direct me to this post so I could see these pictures, I would be grateful.
[identity profile] hipswiveler.livejournal.com
thanks to all who responded with the rag rug ideas. some suggested latch hook. the problem is, i don't know what that is! can someone explain?

thanks,

How angry do you think the neighbors would be to have a broken sewing machine in the middle of the parking lot?

I can't figure this out.. It was working fine (Well.. as fine as this piece of shit works.. it's one of those tiny little machines they sell for like 30 bux and look like they should belong to a 5 year old.. yeah.. ask my ex husband (husband at the time) for a sewing machine.. and that's what I get..).. Suddenly as I'm sewing together a pant leg.. i notice it's not longer making a single stitch.. it's acting as tho it is.. The bottom thread is there.. the needle is threaded.. but NO stitches..
HELP???????????????????

Wow, I guess I'm not one for shopping, I never know where to buy things..but anyways..here goes. Where do you guys get your safety pins, I mean..I've seen them everywhere but they're never the really good, super tough kind, stainless steel and the whole nine yards, I had some from a friend who worked in dry cleaning..but they're gone, and she's gone, and they were wholesale. Okay another question...how do I get white on a t-shirt transfer for a t-shirt other than a white one...I mean...there's no such thing as white ink...so how does it get on there..this may sound dumb but I have no idea. :S

it snowed here yesterday :-(

I want to make something with my beach glass.

I live in walking distance of Lake Erie, so I have a ton.

I really want to make jewelry, but I don't know how I'd go about this. I don't know how to drill holes in them, though that would be ideal. Maybe I should try something else altogether. Any ideas?

Here's a pretty nifty idea that i got just now while watching Better Homes and Garden.

You need a large pillar candle (they're about $3) and some wrapping paper.
Wrap the paper around the candle, and heat the back of a spoon and run it over all the candle (the first layer of wax will help the paper stick) and go over the joint again for good measure. You can add ribbon or braid to.

These make great table decorations.

Need a little help .....

I made this stuffed crochet Jack (from the Nightmare Before Christmas) doll and I want to put the detail of the lines and eyes on his bat bowtie thing ... what would you use? I tried yarn, but it didn't look right .... maybe fabric paint? I would think puffy fabric paint would look cool, but I don't think it would stick well to the crochet ....

Anyway, what do you guys think? You always have great ideas. :P

Here are a few pics )

hey, i'm new here.

i have a question for anyone who can offer me an answer, though it's not really a craft, just an art project.

my problem is about what kind of paint to use (specifically on clay).. what will or won't peel off, what can be layered, and what glosses work well...

more details... )

OK, this is going to seem like a really weird question, but...

does anyone else get slightly swollen and sore in the throat from time to time when they've been knitting (or otherwise working with) wool yarn for awhile? by awhile I mean for over two hours straight.

I'm making over 25 jar candles tonight and I *just* figured out that I have NO IDEA how to cut through the HUGE block of wax that I bought!!!!!!!!!!

This is awful!!!!!!!!!!!

If I can't cut it, I can't melt it, and if I can't melt it, I can't scent it, dye it, and pour it into the lil' jars that are all lined up neatly in rows with their wicks waiting ready to go.

*panics*

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!
