Okay so I etched me some glass (without safety glasses and my eyes didnt melt out YAY). Not an actual glass because I got impatient waiting for them to dry but the kit had a little square of glass in it so I basically etched a coaster. It says Merry Christmas and has snowflakes all over it. So I can tell I am not going to like those specially made for glass etching by this company rub on stencils much but thats what I started with. Just because I guess.
BTW the random ones that come in the kit are ODD, what a wierd collection of odd stencils.
Moving on it took me -ages- to rub the stencils on and tape it out and stuff but it was fun. Then when I rinsed it it looked like it hadn't worked my head almost popped off I swear. Witness me hissing and whining. I was of course a moron, It was just hard to see because the images were slender and it was still, well, wet.
*blush*
My bad. So it did come out and it looks lovely if you hold it up to the light but that isnt going to happen much since I will probably just use it as a coaster. It looks like not much of anything when lying on the table though :-(
What I am wondering is this...How long do you all leave the sludge on for? The directions seemed very forceful about it being only a minute, but would it have come out darker and more obvious if I held out longer? Or is it always kind of faint when the images are slender?
I went to try a custom stencil on a glass I bought to practice on but I smashed it to a near molecular level on the way down the hall. I still have no idea how or why it leapt from my hands but I took that as a sign I should take a break and post about my first glass etching experience before moving on to the glasses. Good thing I bought 4 test glasses. Go go gadget foresight!

A big Christmas present that I'm giving to everyone is lots of homemade cookies. I'm really tight on money this year, so I am going to make a bunch of batches of about 7 recipies of yummy cookies. Tonight, I made over 6 dozen Peanut-Butter Blossoms. They didn't burn or anything! There is always some sort of pitfall when I cook something... it never turns out exactly correct, but these are just as good as my mom used to make them!

I had to leave them out tonight to cool, and since people wake up before me in the morning I had to Leave this warning out )

I want to make gingerbread stars and snowmen and have my cutters primed and ready for action but can't find a recipe anywhere online.

Needs to be pretty simple as in obvious with its measurements as I am new to baking and don't want to mess us but am happy to have a go :)

Thankyou so much for your time!

Hey everyone,I need some help. I want to make my fiance something special for Christmas. This time next year we will be husband and wife, so I want it to be something memorable. I've made a scrapbook for him before...so, I'm trying to think outside of that.

Any suggestions, I'm open to anything, as long as it isn't too expensive!

Thanks!!!!!

I jsut tried to make one. There really isn't any need at all to heat it up.
All I did was use a metal straight edge to score one it and it broke cleanly. Then I just used a regular sized drill bit and the hole came out great. I cleaned up the sharp edges with some extremely fine sandpaper (like the kind that doesn't even look like sandpaper) and I'm assuming that you could jsut rub it on your jeans to smooth it out without making a mark like you do with sculpey.

I also tried making an AOL tin bulletin board and boy! did my paint job suck with spray paint! so i'm going to try some regular acrylics and if that still looks like hell, maybe decoupage it.

Idea from long ago, via my mom...

For old jeans, worn beyond the woof, make 'cat hangers'! Two different ways:
1. cut off one jean's leg, cut along seam lengthwise, sew straps on the two ends, and shazam!...cat hammock.
2. use the other leg, stitch up the bottom of the leg, and sew a strap on the top, similar to a totebag-style. We used to put the cats in this and walk around with them. They loved it! One of the cats would get into the bag while it was still hanging on the doorknob, and would beg to go 'walkies'!

i would just like to say that i... am a crocheting machine! ahahahahaha
also an addict, apparently, but that's beside the point... and, someday after gift-giving season is over, i will make something other than scarves.

However, i'm perfecting my technique... they're getting less variable in width as i go! w00t

I'll post pictures as soon as i get around to scanning the scarves... orrrrr figuing out how to connect the video/digital camera to the computer

Do any of you crafty folks know if it's normal for brittle to get all chewey after you've freshly made it?
It breaks fine but after you've been chewing on it, it gets gummy.
It's been a while since I made any and I added a bit of rum along with the butter at the end and I'm afraid that somehow messed things up.

So main question, should I just wait or should I just make up another batch?

Thanks for any help!

Is there any way to turn a knitted pullover sweater, into a cardigan?

Not the pattern, the actual completed sweater?

I've been looking all morning for a recipe of something to make my grandpa, who is on the atkin's diet, for xmas.

If anyone happens to know of one, I'd be happy to hear it. otherwise.... just any type of food that i could give him as a christmas gift would be uber helpful.

Now with all the things I'm doing with albums, I have a lot of covers left over.
I saw in the FAQ something about making a purse where you can put the cover in there. That's pretty cool.

Are there any tricks to sewing vinyl? I've never sewn anything like that and am not sure what to expect.

Thanks

Right, as gifts to my bosses I want to make some scented hand cream or similar for bodies that could be used for hands maybe... Has anyone done this before or has any ideas for recipies?

Its a cool idea since I work in a kitchen and all that washing and cleaning makes your hands all yuk. go team me!

Need a few suggestions here and it does turn out to be a bit crafty! Just not for me, for my 5 year old...

I just returned from Hobby Lobby and no I didn't buy out the store but I did pick up $32 worth of stuff, $5 only being what I really indended on getting!

I bought a "memory book" kit for my 5 year old. I'm going to give her pictures she can cut up, a glue stick, glitter and finger paints. I'm going to let her just have at it and make a present for her grandparents.

My question is, just opinions here...for the grandparents that can buy everything they ever want (yeah they have $$$) and have 5 grandkids...do you think this is a good idea? She can fill in about 1/4 of the book and leave the rest open for the other grandkids to do with the grandparents later.

Goofy idea or good? But just to keep in the group theme here, I'll post what she does a little later on.

My mom bought a loofa thing, and it came in a cheap flimsy plastic container, and I couldn't just throw it away! So I made this...

Bag! )

I just wrapped it in duct tape and sewed a button on so that it could close. :)

I found the perfect ice cube tray and I finally made the resin bracelets I've been talking about for so long. These are the prototypes, I hope you like them! The photo was the best I could get, what with the resin being so shiny. Any comments/questions/tips/ideas for pictures for more bracelets etc welcome. Do you think I'd have a shot at selling this type of thing?

Edit - here is the tutorial I posted in the comments, where it sort of got buried:
I mixed up the resin according to the instructions (outside, and with gloves on). Then I used an old tea spoon to pour one teaspoon of resin into each part of the icecube tray. When that was dry I made up some more resin (slightly bigger than the first batch). Using old chopsticks I dipped each picture in the resin and placed them face down in the icecube tray. Then I topped each one up with another teaspoon of resin. Poke the pictures down with the chopsticks to make sure there are no bubbles. I found that the surface was a little bit dull when they came out of the tray so I varnished them.

I borrowed this nifty hand drill from a neighbour to drill the holes. I meant to take a picture of that and post it too! You just sort of pump the top of the drill and it turns it. The holes run diagonally from the back to the sides of each bead. They're all held together with 10mm jump rings.

Corn feed?

is there an iron on substance (fusible webbing???) that fuses two fabrics together?

if so, can it go through the wash?

interfacing and stabilizer just have fusibility on one side i think......

can iron-on stabilizer go through the wash without coming off?

Your nice words have spurred me on to post a picture of my first pair of t-shirt undies (a la getcrafty, in case anyone missed THAT particular craze) that I made months ago but was too scared to post. Modelled, of course, by my bottom. Behind a cut to preserve the sensitive, the innocent, and those with high blood pressure.

so i saw a super cute sweater at torrid tonite that was waaay overpriced. it was cute because it had little bondage-y d-rings at the neck and on the sleeves (the neck was a low v, and the strap was way at the top). (it's not on thier website sadly)

much craftiness will ensue once i decide which shirt of mine to tear apart.

has anyone ever doen anything like this?

i made my baby a polar fleece hat with tufts on the ears. a SQUARE hat. unfortunatly i was working with a remnant and it was too small.

tonight i went to old navy and BOOM!!! the same freaking hat!! so i bought one. (i also bought him a sherpa hat. why does my four month old need so many hats?? because he's adorable that's why! :P)

does anyone know any specific exploding dog pictures that would be good for a his and hers towel set? i'm going to embroider one for my friend and her boyfriend (they love exploding dog), and i don't really know what to pick, because a lot of the stuff conveys abstract ideas....

i want something that conveys either the washroom or feminity/masculinity....

Two things today. For those who gave me suggestings on building my scale model of a theater set - Thank you times 100. I got an A on the project and my teacher sent it over to the theater department to see if my script could be used during the student productions week at the university. Yeah me. Next - I finally caught on to the marble magnet craze. I did about ten of them with victorian women's faces as the pictures. For those of you who are into girly things, Victoria Magazine is a goldmine for marble size pictures. Wish I could post pictures, but I have no means right now. I took some regular photos of the set, so maybe once I get those back I will scan, resize and post. Or maybe I will acutally get a digital camera for christmas.
