first of all, a HUGE thank-you to the people who posted home-made christmas cards and the uber-cute chocolate mice. mine didn't look nearly as good, but my family was enthusiastic anyway (gotta love a willing audience).

now, a question for you, ladies:

i'm decorating a metal lunchbox, and i was thinking about trying to attach some stretchy-velvet-like material to the inside. what would work best? i already have hot glue, the E600 silicone stuff, and modge podge. would one of those work, or do you recommend something else?

thanks in advance!

Hey gals,
I don't know if this has already been mentioned or not, but I checked the FAQ and couldn't find anything there....
But I can't seem to find that sillicone glue stuff that you need for the marble magnets. I went to A.C. Moore and Michael's and didn't find it ANYWHERE. Does Michael's usually carry it? I mean, maybe they were just out. But the thing is, is I asked a few of their employees and NONE of them knew what I was talking about! Weird...

Does anyone know the exact name of the stuff so maybe I can go in there and say it's brand "such and such"?

I've been using that 3M Scotch rubber cement-type adhesive, and it seemed to work well at first, but it's smelly, and it's so abrasive that i have to be really careful b/c it's been eroding the pictures right off of the paper! Nice, I know...

Do you think that if I can't find it at Michael's that Joann's might have it? hmmm....

EDIT: oh wait, I just found on the FAQ's that it's E6000? Can I buy it online? These employees have no idea what the heck I'm talking about lol

Does anybody in here make glass beads?

I've always thought it would be super fun, but I never got around to taking a class or anything when I was living in Seattle, and now I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, and they don't have fun classes like glass bead making.

Sooo I'm walking through Hobby Lobby, and I see that they have this glass bead starter kit...it's $99, and it comes with all the basic stuff you need to start making glass beads.

But how great can it be, if it's only $99?

Has anybody ever bought it, or do any of you have any glass bead making experience?

I've read through the faq and couldn't find anything under pets or sewing. So I decided to ask
My boyfriend's cat is smaller than average, still gets kitten comments although he's an adult. He's also got short fur, and since he loves being outside around town on his harness with us, he gets cold. I'm planning to make a little jacket out of fleece for him, sort of like those sweaters you can buy. But I'm not sure about how to fix it on him, especially between the front legs. I'm planning to use velcro, for easy release in case he was to become stuck somewhere. Does anyone happen to have a pattern and/or picture of a similar jacket or outfit? Or any helpful hints or websites? I've been looking on google and not having much luck.
I can knit, but I don't know the names of the actual stitches I do, so it's hard to read directions, so I'm hoping for a sewing pattern..although a knitted drawn picture (the outline or body shape of what I'm going for) would be helpful as well.

Hello! I've been apart of this community for a few months but this is my first post.

I am interested in sewing but I haven't done too much other than altering shirts or simple things like hems.

I wanted to give my boyfriend a stuffed turtle for xmas but I went to seven stores and couldn't find one!!! So I decided to sew one, this is my first big project and my first stuffed animal I've ever made!

My mom doesn't really know much either but she told me I need to make a pattern ( which I just drew myself ), after that I did everything myself. I used green fleece, folded it in half and drew a turtle outline. I cut that out and sewed the 2 pieces together then turned it inside out and this was the result:

The rest of the process inside! )

I'm not the best seamstress in the world, so I'd like to do some small things for my American Girl Doll.

Does anyone have experience sewing for 18" dolls? I'm not a knitter or crocheter (no patience), so I'd like to stick to sewing.

I'd like to do some contemporary patterns of stuff, but I'm not exactly how to translate a pattern for a doll. I would assume it'd be similar to designing a pattern for a real person, only smaller. And with the benefit of being able to stick pins in it. Only, I don't know how to create patterns for any sized people.

I'm an art major and confidant in my lack of abilities (I'm pretty sure I could figure it out, I'd just like some direction).

You guys are the best when it comes to stuff like this, so I'm counting on you! Also - if you have links or another community where I could post this to I'd love you all forever xxoo

The community has grown to 3900 members! Definitely a huge community.

I did change a couple of things, though. Since Live Journal no longer requires invite codes, and anyone can make an account, I have disabled anonymous posting. It seems the really weird, odd or rude posts are always anonymous, and since anyone can make an account now, I just thought it would be easier to take care of. There weren't a lot of them for me to unscreen anyways.

I also wanted to mention that I have added [livejournal.com profile] prophetspyder as a co-moderator. You guys craft way to fast for me to keep up with. I am sure she will be great, as she seems to have the faq memorized already!

Thank you all so much for making this such a wonderful community.

or something that is shiny and black that I could use as a wrapping paper alternative?

Can someone help me?

I browsed the memories and couldn't really find anything I was looking for.

I have TONS of photo negatives, does anyone know anything I could do with them?

I also have a bunch old hard-cover childrens books, that I was thinking of making into a purse,or something else crafty. Anyone know how I could go about making a purse? or have any other ideas?

Thanks<3

Seashell hair sticks

I managed to find more cut seashells when I was shopping, so I made a set of 4 hair sticks for the boyfriend's sister for Christmas. These are made of far more sturdier materials than my first attempt, so I'm definately proud of these.

X-posted on my journal.

This isn't craft relate as far as you would go, but it's crafty on their part. :)

If you don't want to throw out your Christmas cards and You don't really want to keep ten tons of old cards, either -- Here's some info someone sent to me:

Instead of throwing out the greeting cards you get each year, send them to St. Jude's Ranch for Children. This is an organization that helps abused and neglected children. The kids collect fronts of Holiday cards and paste them onto new backings. The result is then sold as a fundraiser for the group's program for abused and neglected kids. you can visit their website at - WWW.STJUDESRANCH.ORG

Sooooo, pack up those Christmas cards and ship them off to:
