I'm looking for information on something I've always thought were called Mohair Flowers. They are big poofs of some kind of fiber (mohair, maybe) that usually have a plastic buttony thing in the middle of them. They were popular around the seventies, I think.

I tried googling for "mohair flower," but nothing that fit the above description came up. I'd like to know how to make them or, if instructions are unknown, where to buy them.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about, it would be nice to have the technical name of these things so I could do some searching for it. Plus, it would be nice to validate the existence of them because I'm starting to think maybe I just made them up in my head.

I have a friend who is obsessed with unique and vintage purses, so I thought I'd give my first try at knitting a purse for her 22nd birthday. It turned out a bit differently than I imagined, but here it is:

hi, i was out garage saling this weekend and saw a neat cork board.
the person had saved the cork from wine bottles and glued them inside a huge frame.
i didn't buy it, but i thought it was a great idea. i might have done it a bit differently, since it was a bit bulky.

just thought i'd throw it out there incase someone was trying to figure out what to do with all their corks.

so, i've been talking about it for what, six months now? im going to start a zine.
its going to be a craft/diy/vegan zine. aha. i want to do a thing where i get menus from every state for vegan restaurants and compile it for when bands are on tour, people are traveling, etc. have awesome vegan recipes in it, and vegan friendly companies for beauty products, good vitamins, good books, stuff like that. and then sort of like a craft project for any holidays coming up [some sort of mothers day, valentines day, etc type gift idea] how to make a bouquet for your mom that looks like a professional one, how to make a journal with polaroid transfers of you and your lovvverrr, and then how to like, make your own curtains, make your own coffee table, clock, upholster your couch [me and my roommate are proud to say our apartment is almost 100% diy, i made my own desk, we made our own couches, curtains, clock, lamps, coffee table, cubboards] ,etc etc etc.

so heres the thing, if you want to help a sister out and have any recipes, brands, ideas, projects, ANYTHING related to this at all, i would be totally in debt to you. im getting a print gocco first [a high resolution, less messy, less expensive, no chemical, paper-purposed silkscreening machine] to do my covers and stuff.

please please please.

Inspired by this post, I realized this might be a useful place to ask my question about measurements.

I've been churning out crocheted hats like there's no tomorrow, and I realized that I've been making them all to fit my head. So I thought it might be a good idea to try to figure out what an average sized head is, as I have a feeling mine is a bit on the smaller side of things...

So, if people would be so kind as to measure their heads (around), preferably in inches, I would be so appreciative. And those of you with children, if you don't mind measuring the little ones heads as well, that would be super groovy.

How do you sew a zipper into a skirt? I checked the FAQ but found nothing.

Is there anyone in need of/that could use a TON of plastic beads? I used to be really into making bracelets out of plastic beads and elastic, but I'm not really anymore. :/ I am currently in the process of getting rid of as much of my junk around the house as I possibly can, and I figured that maybe someone could use these instead of me throwing them away. I will gladly post/send pictures to anyone who is interested. I think I have three tackle boxes full of beads. Let me know if you're interested!

A few months ago (maybe more!) someone posted a link about vintage books. The site had the value of books... i think it was used to check the value before gutting it and revamping it. Does anyone still have the link?
I checked the faq's and I googled. HELP!
Thanks! ♥

I adore these shoes, but I refuse to pay $70 for them. I was thinking about altering a pair of plain black leather pumps I already have (and never wear), but I'm not sure how to get a kitty design onto the shoes. Would acrylic paint work? Is there another medium that would work better? Can I stencil them? Would the paint crack? Should I seal them somehow? Any ideas are much appreciated.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the little picture inserts that go into wallets. I need a new wallet and I keep seeing all of these fantastic ones, but the problem is that they don't have the little slots for pictures, which I really want. Is there any way to make them? Out of what? How?

Thank you SO much if you know!

This site has an incredible amount of free knitting and crochet patterns (there may be some sewing too), and ideas for crafts to do to help charities.

For example: amputation covers, cancer caps, leprosy bandages, preemie hats, Foster care bags.

a question for the sewing ladies: does lining have to be cut on-grain, or does it really matter?
