Well, we are up to 4772 members on the community. We have 1893 entries into the faq, and the ones we are getting are often great explanations and tutorials. You guys are amazing and creative! Good job all around.

I noticed we have a lot of people looking over screen printing, but we have very little in the faq. Is it possible for one of you screen printing divas to write up a little explanation, or how to, on what is required and how it works? Oh, and bonus points for anything on printing gocco's because everyone wants to know what they are, and such. I really want to get some posts on that in the faq because of the interest.

On a different note, I need to make a gentle reminder that we had changed our posting policy several months back on "What should I get . . . . for a gift" posts. We were getting so many of these at one point it was very difficult to find anything else. We have changed the user info to state:

Because of the shear volume of posts dealing with the generic question of "what do I get for my ...." we are going to ask that you post those to the community [livejournal.com profile] crafty_gifts because that is not the primary focus here, and we can not keep up with it. If you don't know what to get someone, read the faq memories. If you have a specific question from there ask away. Thank you.

We will be removing the posts now, and we won't be giving any warnings. There are just too many posts to read and go over. I am sorry for the change, but with close to 5000 members we will be focusing on show and tell, how to's, and helping each other with specific crafty quesitions.

You guys are great, and thank you all so much for making this a great community.

So i talked to my grandmother yesterday, and found out that the hats that i made for my grandfather (who is in a old age home) have been stolen. So it looks like there are other men adn women at this home who need warm hats.

SO im starting a Hat drive. And thought i would post it here so anyone who wants to help can.

It takes me about thirty miniuts to crochet a hat. So im hoping to get at least 100 hats made and then i will mail them to the home.

If any of you would like to help me with this hat drive, please contact me at kmosch(at)uniserve(dot)com

So i kept seeing all the posts on the crochet community about shawls and decided to see if i could do it! Well, this is what i came up with. It's a little small for me but it turned out fine otherwise. I just used yucky old red heart yarn (as this was just a practice run). I think it came out pretty good. Oh and it's all done in that stitch where you yarn over 2....what is that double or tripple? Whatever..... what do ya think of my first shawl?

I made my daughter a few t-shirts yesterday that came out SO cute that i had to show them off! They're little peasant style shirts from Butterick 3856. This pattern is my new favorite! It takes less than 1/3 of a yard to make each shirt in size 1 (12 months).

Sorry, the pics a llittle big :/

This is the first crafty thing I've done in quite a long time, and I'm pretty proud of it. Also, I've never posted, so this is my "hello" post. Hi.

Searched through the archives and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for -- and the sad thing was that I was the one who posted it! :-)

I am looking for the method using nail polish remover (acetone) or -- peppermint oil, I think -- to transfer photographs onto wood. I can't remember what type of oil (maybe it was wintergreen) and I can't remember if I can do this with inkjet prints or need to go get color photocopies made. I'm just drawing a total and complete blank right now on it for some reason & can't find the answer in my archive search! HELP!

Second question is this: does anyone know of any companies that make colored vellumn that will go through an inkjet printer? I am wanting to do some crafts witha thicker vellum that I'm finding would be way easier to do with printouts to work from, but while I have some tracing paper that can go through the printer, its boring white!

Thanks guys!

I just saw the post about Screen Printing. Let me just say, I've never done Screen Printing before, but this came out of a book I just picked up at my local library. I think it would be very helpful to all of you, so I'm typing it up for you all. Feel free to add this to the memories, if you think it would benefit members in the future.

Waterproof Ink
This ink is great for stenciling or painting on fabrics. Next time you send your kids to camp, label their clothes with this ink.
MAKES APPROXIMATELY 3/4 CUP.
1 tablespoon powdered clothes dye - such as RIT
2 teaspoons peppermint extract
1 tablespoon glycerin
3/4 cup distilled water

Combine the dye and the peppermint extract in a small bowl until dissolved. Blend in the glycerin. Add water while mixing thoroughly. Store in a bottle with a lid

And also I have:
Poster Paint
This kind of paint is particularly good for making silkscreen design, but it's versatile enough for any use. This paint is inexpensive to make in large quantities.
2 parts powdered pigment
1 part liquid starch

Mix ingredients thouroughly. It should have a creamy consistency. The pain adheres better than a water-based paint. Store in covered jars.

This book I got is filled with "200 Creative Concotions and Practical Potions for Crafts, Beauty Aids, Household Products, And Gifts from Your Kitchen". The various sections are:
1. Face-It Look-Good Recipes
2. Soaps To Whet The Appetite
3. Personal Pampering Recipes
4. Perfect Potpourri Potions
5. Mixtures To Minimize Maintenence
6. Recipes To Spice Up Your Toiletries
7. Crafting With Clever Concotions
8. Gift Recipes You Can't Eat

If you are looking for any recipes or anything, let me know, and I will see if they're in here.

Does anyone here know of any good sites that have advice or instructions for building your own instruments/percussion? Think Einstruzende Neubauten or similar... Does anyone here do it at all? Do you perform?

So if you were to get a journal made from old record covers (like these) would you prefer the insides to be blank, lined, have a planner, address book, or something else? I made a set of these with just blank pages, but I'm wondering if planner pages would be more useful. Any suggestions?

i don't know if anyone has ever posted about this before, but i just figured it out about five minutes ago and i thought i was the world's smartest smart person.

Organizing my digital photos I came across some photos of perhaps one of our biggest craft endeavors to date. lol Our wedding materials, though relatively small at 70 invites and 55 attendees, were pretty much entirely "handmade". :)

Okay, this may seem a little odd to some people (especially if you're allergic to bees). But, today as I was cleaning the side porch and I found this dead bee. Well, I set him to the side, went back out later and was trying to think of what I could do with him. Originally, I was thinking of a 3-D piece of art, but then it hit me. I had some hair clips I was looking to embelish. So, I super-glued a flat metal bead to the bottom of the bee, then glued that on the hair clip. It's a lot sturdier than it looks, you just have to be careful as the bee is quite fragile (especially the wings). My friend and I are on a mission to make more of these. So, I hope someone appreciates my crazy craft endeavors! Oh, and the orange would be from a highlighter, I figured it could use a bright colour to stand out among my dark hair.

edit://I should have mentioned this originally. Yes, It sounds/is kind of morbid.....but, if you have something to say about wearing a bee in my hair being weird, then oh well. I think it's a very creative idea and am not looking for bad critisim here (I hate how everytime I post something here I always get such negative comments). And I already took the stinger out. And no, I'm not worried about what's going to happen to as far as falling apart goes. I'll keep it until I see any signs that it's getting gross/falling apart/etc. Thanks for the concern though.

i REALLY want to do this, but i can't find it at any of the grocery or book stores around here. and the website doesn't seem much help either.

if anyone has this i would love them forever.

thanks!!
