Has anyone ever had a JoAnn Fabrics credit card? Is it good, good rates, etc?

this may sound really stupid, and i've been through the faq, i swear:

i've done bookbinding before, but with a decorative type chain "stitch" that goes down the spine of the signatures with embroidery floss. now i want to bind some paper and throw it into a book jacket, so the prettiness of the spine doesn't really matter:
a) what kind of durable, cheap thread do i use??? i have thick thread i use for top-stitching vinyl, but it seems too thick? almost like fishing line doesn't like being flexible and making "knots"
b) is there a really SIMPLE stitching method that's also durable, but not like this type because i don't like how it would fold open
c) WHERE can i get decent paper to use? staples only had one package of decent paper to use...and the rest was plain old printer paper

Anyone ever try to cut up a record with a chop saw (or whatever you call those power saws with the circular spinny blade that you pull down as opposed to pushing)?

I have records that need cuttin' and a saw in the basement...I'm tempted...

I have a question....

I'm hoping to get a penpal sometime soon and was wondering if there is any sort of problem with making my own postcards.

Does the paper have to be a specific thickness? Or any sort of other problem that would come up with the Post Office to where my postcards wouldn't be mailed??

Thank you in advance!

Hello! My name's Krystal, and I'm a 19 yr old college student. My crafty activities include candlemaking, beadwork, knitting, crochet, friendship bracelets, cross stitch, soapmaking, decoupage, playing with Shrinky Dinks, rubber stamping, and probably some other things I forgot. But what brought me here is tatting.

I designed this cross-stitch pattern from the image on an antique postage stamp. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. :) For the chart and instructions on how to make the box go to: http://www.mosaicminds.net/living/slapdash/

so, my boyfriend and i will be sharing our two month anniversary next monday (two months isn't a lot, i know, but we like to celebrate every month). i was absolutely stumped on what to make for him, and then yesterday i was riding around with my mother and it came to me, so i decided i'd share it with you.

gift: magnetic poetry picture frame

items used to make it:
romantic magnetic poetry kit from barnes and noble- about $20
8 x 10 black picture frame from walmart - $2.50
2" sponge brush from walmart - $.79 each
8 x 10 magnet board from walmart - about $3
folk art red paint from walmart - about $.87
5x7 picture of us

how i made it:
- i painted the magnet board red first. i think i put about 8 coats on it to make sure i had it covered. obviously i used the sponge brush to do this. it was pretty fun but i got paint all over me.

- after the paint dried i put the picture on it and hung it by the little poem i wrote him with the magnetic words. i put all the extra magnets on the back of the magnet board so we would be able to write little poems together whenever we wanted to.

- i took out the glass in the picture frame, and i put the magnet board inside of it. then i closed up the back of the frame and it was all set up.

at this point i was finished. it was pretty easy to do and i was satisfied with it.

(I've already Googled both this community, and in general, and couldn't find anything that matched what I was looking for. Wool, yes; acrylic, no.) Knowing me, tho, I probably worded it wrong...

My co-worker was sorting through the Lost & Found box at work this morning and stumbled across a large plastic shopping bag full of yarn (acrylic stuff, mostly) and a few other "crafty" things (big wooden beads, some kind of twine, and other stuff).

It's been in the L&F box well over a year, we're thinking. Several of the skeins are sealed up inside Ziploc bags, but others are loose. Two light blue ones, for example, are in a ziploc bag, and it looks like a granny square was started with one of them.

Everything looks clean; my co-worker said nothing smelled funny (I didn't want to sniff)... the paper labels wrapped around the skeins looked a bit aged, perhaps, but no other problems.

Still, I'm a bit nervous about the thought of using it for myself, since the origin of the yarn is unknown, and I'm a bit of a germophobe... It's lots of small amounts of yarn, mostly -- half-used skeins and the like -- so I'm guessing I could make some granny squares with it.

Any thoughts on how best to clean it? (Febreze heavily, then air it out in the sunlight? Throwing it into an old pillowcase, knotting that up and tossing it in the washer? Boiling it on the stovetop? Hand-wash? Do I use a soap of some kind?)

I help co-moderate [livejournal.com profile] stitchesofhope and the project for the month of may is animals. I was in school and on vacation for the first half of them month, so I have to fastly catch up now!!
If anyone is interested in the community, check it out. It is all about sewing, crocheting, knitting..etc for various charities or places or anything really.
I am making blankets to donate to the local animal shelter. I would have probably been finished with the blanket if I hadn't messed up and had to take it out.
Animals need pretty blankets too!!

ello! I'm new here! My name is Roxie...and, actually, I'm really not all that crafty....
I mainly make purses/wallets/bags/whatever out of duct tape, but I can sew...slightly...
I also do other stuff, I guess. I make soap, jewelry, earings, etc.
I would post pics of some of my stuff, but geocities doesnt allow direct linking, so you can see some of my stuff at my duct tape site:

eyelets

eyelets:
I found a bag of heart shaped eyelets at a craft store the other day, and am considering going back to get them. They also sold eyelet attachers (it looks like a ballpoint pen that is all metal), which were $5. I didn't buy them, because I wasn't sure if I needed the attacher or not, and it didn't come with any directions.

How would I use the eyelet attacher? Is it really necessary to purchase, or is there another way of attaching them without it? If I just buy the bag of eyelets, how do I attach them?

This picture has been stuck in my head for days and I haven't had the time to get it onto the wheel. Well tonight I can sleep easy because it's out.

If i painted my cell phone (LG Flip phone) with clear glitter nail polish, would it affect its working ability?

I'll of course remove the battery first and cover the parts that respond to the battery and i wont paint any buttons, but would the fumes affect the way it works? I hope not. My phone is all scratched up and i think it needs a face lift. its about 3 years old.

back story )If it was on Chai, I got it off with baby wipes, but I think it is on the TV. Anyone know how to get spray polyurethane off of glass? And possibly off of tile and perchance off of fake leather? (He pointed to the tv when I asked where he sprayed it, but the tile was sticky and the sofa was shinier than normal)

I've finally gotten around to scrapbooking all my concert photos from the past... 4 years or so. I'm putting in pictures, tickets, autographs, everything. Got any ideas for a cool concert-related cover? My original idea [and I'm not liking it, hence my asking for help]: I was gonna take a record and break it up, then on the cover put it back together like a puzzle, but split the pieces apart just a little bit, and fill in those spaces with blue paint or something and then let the paint run out on to the rest of the cover... like a bleeding record, if you will. But I'm not really liking that idea... any suggestions?
