Anyone know where I can get black velvet (preferably) inserts of various (or customizable) sizes for jewelry boxes? Purple or burgundy would be cool, too!

Notebooks for school, cool-ified!

Okay. I got 3 new notebooks for school, and being the "craftgrrl" I am, I decided that some decoration was in order. At first I decided that a nice little collage type thing would be nice, but I soon realized that I would get bored of it. I needed something simple on my notebooks that I wouldn't get too tired of. :) So, I decided on stenciling.

More behind the cut.

"Mommy, where do pretty notebooks come from?"
Well, honey. When a girl loves her notebooks VERY much... )

So my best friend’s birthday is coming up and one of the things I’ve decided to make her is a cookbook. I was wondering if any of you crafty gals have any ideas on how I can make the cookbook more creative. At first I was just going to type up all the recipes and add some drawings and what not. Then I thought of the idea of using some heavy paper, cutting out circles (like c.d.s), writing the recipes on them, and putting them all in those tubs that blank c.d.s come in (make sense?) Any one have any other ideas? Is there any way I can make the cook book more...interesting? Thanks for any help!

I'm looking online at screen printing inks, and it seems like the ones that air-dry are more expensive (and less durable) than the ones that require to be heated.

For instance, the one I'm looking at says

...will not air dry, and must be heat cured. Inks will fully cure and withstand repeated washings when the entire ink deposit reaches 300°F (149°C). They have excellent washability. Dry cleaning is not recommended.

How do I heat it?  Can I just heat up an oven to 300 and pop the shirt in on a tray?  How long would I keep it in?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give. :)

Hi Guys,

I just put up a whole bunch of pictures from our shoot for a design supplement for Woman's Day magazine that we just shot at our house. It'll be out in December and we're the cover, yeay. Come see.

i just recently got a bunch of sweaters that someone was throwing away at the end of their garage sale (score!) and i remember seeing a tutorial on this community for unravelling sweaters. i think it was this community anyway.
i looked in the memories under a few different categories that i thought it would be in but i didn't see it anywhere. can someone link me to either that, or another tutorial on how to unravel? or kindly explain? thanks.

Quick question for you crafty folk:

I painted some gym shoes a while back with acrylic paints and then I sealed them with a spray sealer. It's been working great, except that the paint is cracking near the toe where the shoe bends. I don't care too much, since they're gym shoes.

However! I have a pair of grey heels that I want to paint black. When the paint cracks along the toe bendy lines, it's going to look really awful. Does anyone have any good (inexpensive) tips for how to avoid this problem?

Thanks a ton!

I need some help. ^^ While I was out shopping the other day, I picked up this little wooden box. It's plain, and made of sort of cheap material, so I want to spruce it up. But what can one expect for a dollar? :D I plan to replace the latch and hinges because they are really cheap. With a little pressure, they'd bend really bad.

I'm not sure what to do to it, though. It's made out of wood that's two colors... so it alternates. Light and dark. o.O I was thinking of painting it, and maybe glueing beads along the edges. Or finding a way to make it look like metal. o.O

Any ideas? ^^ I'm looking for a lot because I might go back later this week and pick up some more if they still have some. I know I could make at least one into a gift for my mother, and hopefully I can make some nice ones for other people. ^_^

I took some pictures, in case it might help. They aren't very good because my webcam sucks. ._. Also, the colour is off. It isn't quite that dark. x_x It's actually a lot lighter. x_x

Here are the images. ^^ )

And on another note, I'm crocheting a Slytherin scarf for myself, and one for my friend. ^^ Out of my local stores limited yarn selection, I picked the two best colours I could find. Grey Heather and Dark Sage. ^^

And while I'm at it, I have another question. Does anyone besides me have a problem with hopping from project to project? I tend to have 3 or more things in progress at a time. o.o

Hey everybody, i went vintage shopping yesterday and scored this adorable suitcase. Now, im being lazy and un-willing to look back in the archives for something like this.. so does anyone have any ideas as what i can do with it? its a light pink with light yellow polka dots on it. i like the design and dont want to change that. i more am looking for a way to use it.. and not for luggage. lol. i think it'd be too fragile. but its still pretty sturdy. i was thinking of using it to store my paints for art class. any ideas?

thanks!

paint a television? I've got an old TV from my grandmother and some lovely pink glitter spray paint, but I'm worried about the vent holes. Would you try to cover the holes, or just remove the back, spray then replace?

This is my first question, so sorry if I did anything wrong. :)

I moved into my house/apartment in May, and I haven't done much decorating of my room. I am kind of messy and it is very small, but I have one wall that is completely blank. I'm not going to put a picture of it up because it's poinless. My bed is against the wall as is my computer desk, but I'd guess it is about 11 feet long. Do you guys have any ideas of something cool I could do? I don't want to just put posters/pictures up, because that's what I've done throughout the rest of my room. I think a mural would be good, but I can't really draw/paint. I've thought about fabric too, but I just don't know. Behind the cut I'm posting a pic of a section of my room. This is what I've done so far. on the other part I have some Women's rights posters up and a few framed black and white photos, but that's about it.

I'd like to have sort of a theme for my room

Made some marble push pins for a tack board out by printing out sealab 2021 pictures.
The colors aren't that great because when you take a large picture and shrink it hugely, then put it under a magnifying object like a marble magnet the image gets really pixelly. But it will definately serve its purpose. I'm trying to make my work place more habitable. ( I work in a call center )

I was thinking of embroidering the back pockets of my jeans. Would it be possible to do this without having the thread go through the entire pocket? As in, I would still like to be able to stick things in my back pocket if I want to. Any thoughts or tips?

I just spent some time at my grandparents house, they live in a very small village in the north of Sweden, and there isn't much to do there, except swiming and crafting.

So I drive an old car... Its a '67 ford falcon "Futura" station wagon.

Its green, so its name is "Old Greenie" ... but I cannot buy car seat covers for it, because they do not manufacture ones for cars like that. My car doesn't have headrests or shoulder belts, and its just a simple bench seat. And all the seat covers they sell have headrests, and are made for SUV's. (going price: around $40)

I also cannot buy steering wheel covers, the steering wheel is too big, and normal steering wheel covers won't stretch to fit that big of a steering wheel. I've bought and had to return about 3 different steering wheel covers before I just gave up. (going price: around $10)

... So what did I do?
I made my own car seat and steering wheel covers! )

Hello all!
I got a few critters here I'd like you to meet:

Miss Blue Belle

& Miss Sierra Evenings

Lovely ladies in their own right. I've been sitting on them for a couple days 'til I got a 3rd all polished up and ready to share but the new loom has me all tied in knots so to speak.

I'm about to get into some more locks of a ruby hue and I'm thinking "wooley!"

Hey, uh, I'm a guy, I enjoy doing crafts, you know what I mean, it's relaxing to me. You'll know what I'm talking about; when you come home after a long day, and you sit down and start crafting and you get in a rhythm, something just makes my mind calm down really fast.

Anyway, I went back-to-school shopping and grabbed a composition book and found some stuff to cover it with...

You wanna see? )

hello, im [livejournal.com profile] mockilock. im 16, and a badass. i have kind of been into crafts, and ive just started knitting again. i was hoping for ideas, as well as tips.

right now, to freshen up my knitting skills, im attempting a scarfs. looks pretty good, so far, but i want to advance to things like beanies with cat ears, and possibly a tail to wear. ( im thinking a long cylinder tube, with beltloops, beanie baby beans for the inside-bottom, and cotton to fill it in.

maybe i will eventually knit a blanket, or a sweater, or a bag.. ( a back pack would be neat. i realise that those would be awesomely large projects, but..

if anyone has suggestions, or could tip me to knit a beanie, i would be eternally greatful.

may post pics later..

this looks like an awesome community, i hope to get ideas.

Hi I'm Shannon, Im a first time poster and a very long time lurker. Im constantly inspired by you guys, such amazing talent in here. Anyway I've always been too shy to post my creations on here and I figured today I would just go for it. It's actually kind of funny because someone mentioned wanting to put a brontosaurus on a purse, and thats exactly what I made this morning. So yeah, here goes. Constructive critisism is always very welcome. Im still not very good at this whole sewing thing!

i've been a mod podging fool lately.

also a question: i have a dresser.  i'd post a picture but it's just a plain dresser.  anyway, i've had it since i was little.  it's been 4 hundred colors in my lifetime alone.  right now, it's off white and the drawers are green (actually, the same green as the pencil holder behind the cut) i want to mod podge something to the drawers.  but knowing me, i'll get bored with it in a year and want to take it off and redo it (hence the reaosn why the dresser has been 4 hundred colors.)  i know mod podge is like irreversible.  once it's on, that's it, on forever.  what could i use instead of mod podge.  i was thinking wallpaper glue since people somehow get wallpaper off their walls eventually.  any ideas?

check out my creations )
