I decoupaged this table top from K-Mart for my dorm room. Read more... )
Hopefully, it won't be viewed as being too "radical," and I won't catch any heat or funny looks for it at a seemingly conservative school.

Also, this is a skirt that I made a while back, that I never got around to selling. Now I'm not sure what to do with it; I don't want it and I think I might just give it away.

Well, after many, many days of not making anything, because I was just look around at other bags and trying to figure out how to make it nicer, and after FINALLY understanding the Jordy Bag tutorial, I made another bag. The pattern is completely my own (but pretty unoriginal) and the neatness was thanks to the tutorial. Pictures under the cut. I'd really like comments on this one because once I DO make enough of these, I do plan on selling this one because I think it's good enough for that.

This is my first legit post. I made this little guy a while ago, and I just drew the pattern myself. Hand sewn. And I'm really not good at sewing.

Edit: I resized! Thanks to qtipgirl ^_^

I'm looking for something to use as a clear sealer for paper.  I'd like to use contact paper (i want to give the paper more durability) but it's time consuming and I'm not perfect at getting all the little bubbles out!  I tried using matte mod podge which gave it a nice look and feel but still wasn't as strong as i'd like.  I thought about laminating but that's too strong.  Any ideas??

I'm looking for some simple, easy to follow tutorials on basic sewing methods/techniques to put in my file (it's a file that i can just turn to if I hit an awkward patch whilst sewing) Kinda things I'm looking for are attaching zips, flounced hems, ruching, pleating, inserting elastic... you get the idea, so any links will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

It's been brought to my attention lately (mainly due to this article on the PureBeads web site) that a lot of beads are made in factories where the workers are forced to work in horrible conditions, often for less money than what they really need to survive because there are no other jobs available. This is more prevalent in countries such as India and China, though that is not to say that all factories in India and China are like this, or that factories in other countries are not.

As a result, I've gotten really interested in fair trade beads. I've found a bunch of companies that sell only or mainly fair trade beads, and am looking for more. I am also curious about which beads are made under humane conditions, and which are not. (For example, are Czech glass beads always OK? What about glass crackle beads, which are my favorites? Etc.)

I've been e-mailing various companies and organizations about this, but I would also like to know if any of you have more information, or know where I could get further info about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thank you!

Lex

I'm trying to do a piece of stensilled art work for my uni wall, and i need lots of spray paint colours, and the cheapest ones i can find are little plasti coat tins, but they say the are enamel, has anyone ever tried spraying this onto fabric (im making a moveable mural!) will it hold, or will it dry to crispy and flake?

OK - so this is my first post... but I must say you all inspire me! Sooo... I felt the need to create (and have for a few days now) so thought I'd post the jewelry that's been keeping my fingers busy. Excuse the poor quality pics. Let me know what you think! Lookie, lookie! I made a quick kitchen craft! I was at a Garlic Festival last weekend (it's like a garlicy county fair) and they were selling garlic braids like this one for 25$. Ya, ya... they were organic, but I didn't care. I was not about to spend 25$ on garlic.
So... today I went to the local farmer's market and bought an 8$ braid of garlic and a 3$ bunch of straw flowers. The flowers weren't 100% dried yet, so they were perfect for me. I braided & tucked the flowers into my pre-made garlic braid et voilĂ ! A pretty wall ornament for my kitchen!
Yay!

I bought one of those $3 canvas tote bags from hobby lobby so I could screenprint something on it. I wanted a pink one, so I got some rit dye and dyed it. I washed it in the washing machine and when it came out the side seams were ripped to shreds. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think this is just because the bag is shitty and cheap or because of the dye or what? I'm thinking about sewing up the seams past the shredded part which would just result in a skinnier bag. I'm just pissed because I was excited over my pretty pink tote bag.

Hey this is my first post here! But I've been looking at your stuff for quite a while, just thought I'd add something :)

The beading took me about 2,5 hours. I don't know if beading the strap was a good move, but I felt like doing it :D
One thing about the bag I don't like is the snap, I had to use a hammer, but hit it too hard and now the snap is a little deformed :( (I was planning to sel it)
Oh well. What do you think? :D

I've got stark white standard lamp shades that came with a lamp set I bought a few years back from (I think) Bed Bath and Beyond. I'm wanting to make them, well, not so white.

I could dye or paint them somehow, I suppose, but I was thinking more along the lines of tea staining them some way or another. What would be the best way to make them more off-white/tan/not so stinkin' bright white?

sorry for the no pic post :\
i have an idea for a tote bag but i'm wondering what would be the best way to go about it. i have an old smashing pumpkins shirt (my favorite band) and it's ruined on the sleeve from bleach. i want to salvage it by making a tote bag out of the front and back parts where there's pictures. so should i:
make my own tote bag by cutting out the pictures and sewing them to some kind of sturdy fabric (denim?) for a lining?
or
buy a cheap tote bag at the craft store and sew the images from the shirt onto the front and back?
or do you have a better idea?
thanks so much everyone!
