A cloak

I haven't posted here in a while and not since I changed my LJ name...  though I have commented some.  I thought I was post one of the more recent things I have done.  A couple of weeks ago I made my first cloak.  For outside, I used black fashion suede, which means faux, but I liked the texture and look of it.  I lined it in black cotton and it has a knotted cord frog (instead of the tie the pattern calls for).  It's actually quite warm, yet not too insanely heavy (though it has some weight to it).  It was made from Simplicity pattern 2795, view C.  It actually went together really easily and the directions were easy to understand and follow.  I recommend the pattern if you're considering it.  I am actually really happy with the results and pleased with the final outcome, so I thought I would share.  *grin*  Thanks for taking a look.  I wore it to the PA Ren Faire 2 weekends ago and know that I will get tons more wear out of it in the future.

For those of you that were so supportive on this post, I thought you might like to see the results of the project that I actually purchased the supplies for:

And isn't the head always the hardest part? For sheesh...

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but for you knitters and crocheters out there, Michaels, the arts and crafts store, has teamed up with Warm Up America and they're accepting donations of 7 by 9 inch knit or crocheted sections to be joined to make afghans for the homeless. The website is here if you want to find out more information, including links to basic patterns. Since last time I checked it looks like Blankets for Canada has gotten involved, too, so Canadians don't get left out in the cold. *wink* (SO CHEESY.)

Really, though, if you knit or crochet at all and there's a Michaels near you, you should think about donating a rectangle or two. The Michaels I work at only has one donation so far and it's really sad to look into the box day after day and see the same lonely aqua blue section staring up at me. The blankets aren't going to be joined until Halloween weekend, so if you're a novice like me, you've got plenty of time to mess up and restart until you get it just right.

I assume there may be a number of others here who belong to the Crafter's Choice, so I thought I'd mention this.

My husband and I both accidently paid my outstanding balance a couple months ago, so I ended up with a credit of about 28 dollars, which they just left attributed to my account for future purchases (I could have gotten a refund sent, but it seemed nicer somehow to me to have the credit *grin*). Well, I just got a mailing from them offering me "Use this credit toward your next purchase and save 40% off the club price on any books you order. Simply write the titles and item numbers below. You must mail this letter in the envelope provided to receive this special 40% off offer."

Sweet. I just knocked four books off my "wish list", and after the credit, it's going to be less than thirty dollars. :o)

If you have a credit for six months, they automatically send you a check for it, and I suspect they REALLY don't want to do that. I don't know if it's something they always do, but it might be worth overpaying by a few dollars once in a while to find out...

Anybody else have the same thing happen?

Thanks to all the lovely [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrls who helped me out with this project. ^^* Instead of shelling out $35 at genkigang.com, I instead spent a rough total of $12 to make a Naruto PJ hat! ^_^! It was supposed to be for my boyfriend's birthday (in a month), but I was too excited about it, and it is getting cold lately, so I gave it to him early. And he loves it; yay! (Photos behind the lj-cut.)

Made with: 1 yard each of gray & white fleece (and tons to spare!), black and white pom-poms (with a couple extra), black felt, a sewing machine, some hand-sewing, and lots of love. <3

Question

I have posted to freecycle with little success. I even had one woman who promised me something and then gave it to someone else.

Anyway, I work with the developmentally disabled at the day program. We were told that any jobs we might have done before, assembly and the like, are now going to Canada and India. We were told we will have to make our own job. We thought about it and decided to try and make a go of selling items at craft shows.

So, we had an idea of what to make, but we need:

* A working sewing machine
* Fur fabric

That's all. Is there anyone in the chicago area who has either? We are willing to travel.

Thx,
Leslie

Background: This year I am a Freshman Challenge Counselor. At the Freshman Challenge, freshman are split into groups, and they go to a local camp to bond and do fun activities like shaving cream fights. Because I am a counselor, I am in charge of a group of 8-10 freshman. We are the Green team, and you're supposed to create a lot of team spirit in your group with cheers and such. A lot of people make tshirts for their groups (each group is a different color), but I don't really want to do that because they get a Freshman Challenge tshirt anyways, and they would probably prefer to wear that. I think they recieve green arm bands, but I wanted to make something else for my group.
Question: What would be awesomely cool and green that everyone would want to wear? Bandanas are overdone. Maybe sashes? Or green tube socks? I know you girls will have some sweet original ideas. Something unconventional. I'm normally a very creative person, but for some reason this has gotten me stumped. Merci en avance!

Hi craftgrrls! This is sugarmommaless posting via my new crafting journal.
I *desperately* need help with a craft. I think I’m in over my head. I decided to make some soldered glass pendants, cause they look really simple and gorgeous, but they are not nearly as easy to make as I thought they’d be. I’ve already invested in all the supplies, so I INSIST on mastering this little craft so I can give them as holiday presents this year as I had planned.

So... I’m asking for some expert opinions.
Here is what I am trying to make. This is a pendant that I bought at a craft fair.

It is about 1” wide by 1.5”tall, with a little jump ring soldered to the top of it so you can hang it as a pendant. It’s basically a little sandwich of 2 squared of stained glass with a piece of paper in between. You can wear them as necklace pendant, but I think they’d also make good tree ornaments and key rings.

Here is a similar product that I found on the net. Read more... )

A friend (ie: [livejournal.com profile] exousia) suggested I post this in here and see what people think. So I say "hey, why not", so here I am. Hope you likes what follows:

For the record... I make a webcomic based on the game Metroid. During said webcomic, I have over time made beaded stuff having to do with my comic. Most notably a door curtain that took 24000 beads, and then a mess of coasters and hotplates, and soon to be a massive placemat thingy.

I've finally got pics of all of the beaded Planet Zebeth stuff up and online. You can check it out at http://www.zebeth.com/planetzebeth/stuff/patterns.html. There's the bead count for how many beads each item has... which is kinda astounding when I think about it. Good thing I never kept count of how much them beads cost, otherwise I mighta quit :P. Or if you want easier clickpaths: Curtain, Hotplates & Coasters.

But yeah, at the bottom of each pattern page is the pictures of the items in question. Have a looksee if you want. Lemme know what you think of it. I'm contemplating selling 'em sometime. I've sold a few online to general friends, but sold 'em basically at cost... because they were friends

I'm going to be either a martini or a cosmopolitan for Halloween. I want a 1950's style dress with a very wide skirt to suggest the shape of the glass. Can anyone suggest a pattern for me? Or can you suggest any other drinks that would make a cool costume? I have already been give the idea of sangria, which isn't out of the question. I like pina coladas too.

At any rate, I will have a purse shaped like an olive or a lime wedge. Or a flower umbrella, depending on what I choose.

long time lurker....first time poster, though it's not crafty.

going through the randomness of our garage I found a couple of bags full of shoulder pads (like totally) and was wondering if anybody wanted them. My mom claims she was gonna make angels of some sort out of them, but that'll never happen.

Post and let me know if you want em and I'll ship em off to ya.

edit: The shoulder pads have been claimed. Whoo-Hoo
