the other morning i went surfing with my friends and we realized how much we love the smell of surf wax. i thought it would be a great idea to make candles out of surf wax cuz it smells so gosh darn good! but surf wax is a little different from candle wax and i was wondering if any of you knew of anything special i would have to do to it before melting it down? thanks for any help you can give me :)

I'm making a super-duper basic quilt for my boyfriend for his birthday, but I would like some advice on the layout. Here ) is what I came up with to start with, but it just looks way too boring. I'm puting photos, poems, and refrences to inside jokes on each of the solid colored pieces, but I still just need some better layout ideas to make it more fun. I have close-up shots of each of the prints if that would help. Thanks for any help or advice!

A while ago, a person posted in this community a picture of a skirt that she had made out of ties and she had asked if anyone would want a tutorial on how to make it. I was wondering if this person ever did the tutorial or if someone else here has seen a link to another site showing how to make a tie skirt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hey everyone. Im going to be changing my room around and making it Japanese style. I was just wondering if anyones got any craft ideas for anything? I got Japanese style bedding already and I bought those Japanese straw mats. So I just want to add some little touches. Im already making a few paintings and a trinket box, but I was wondering if anyone else had any other ideas?

I didn't get a sewing machine for christmas, but I really want one.

Anyone's opinions on those cheap ($15) one handed little sewing doo-hickies, I don't know the name of any, but I know they sell them in drug stores sometimes and there used to be commercials for them on TV.

 my new sewing frame

my father-in-law made this little sewing frame for me.  this one is very simple to make.  i hope you can tell how from the pic.  he told me he has a new & improved one in the works.  this one works fine, though.

i made three teeny tiny books w/ it already.  they are made using traditional binding w/ ribbons...minus the spine.  all it is is the running stitch.  very simple!  they work up a lot faster than coptic stitch, but i think the coptic stitch is more fun to do.  but...i like the look of the ribbon a lot more.

oh, i also made little slipcovers from cardstock for all of my teeny tiny books.  they don't stay closed & i liked this solution better than any other i thought of.  now i can decorate all the slipcovers...yeah right, right after i figure out what to fill the pages of all these books with!!!

ps...here is the direct link to all the books i've made.  click here.

Does anyone know where I can get instructions for knitting an argyle pattern online?

Hello everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. I would like to bind some pages together the way a magazine does. Does anyone know what they use to keep all the pages together, so they don't fall out, and the spine remains flexible? Is it a special glue (decoupage and elmer's didn't work... half of the pages fell out), or wax, or some type of plastic? Where can I get some?

so i just bought this stuff (see below) for the wrong reason, but i figure maybe you guys could help out.

first, has anyone ever used this for making a t-shirt? well, using letters cut out of another cotton fabric and using this iron-on adhesive to put those letters on a t-shirt or other fabric?

if you have had experience, what's the best fabric to use with this adhesive? any sort of help would be great.

also, if iron-on letters state they need a press cloth, can something like a pillow case or something thing be used as a substitute for the press cloth? (i could not find a press cloth for the life of me at walmart tonight and no one was in the craft section to help out.)

Somehow, in the past week I managed to go out until 5am three times and still got some projects done.

I had a club opening to grace with my fabulosity so I made myself a little gorgeous something to wear.

It's black freshwater pearls, silver lined seed beads, sterling silver, Ritulated Quartz, crystal quartz and swarovski

The first time I talked to [livejournal.com profile] peteevil he wondered if he could pull off pearls. I thought so.
What boy wouldn't love a pearl necklace? )
Which labels do we like better? Square or rectangle?

hmm

Thanks

closeups and vibrant colors below... )

just a note to anyone who wants to do this: kool*aid + vinegar = stankyasshouse. please ventilate your area WELL and have some scented candles burning. maybe a fan or eighty. haha.
