Wednesday was my wonderful boyfriend's birthday, so I, of course, baked him a cake. T'was a double layer dark chocolate fudge cake with chocolate icing between the layers and vanilla icing on the outside. I was a bit nervous about how well it would turn out, but I was quite happy with the results.

We both share a love of lawn decorations like gnomes and flamingos, so I made him a pink flamingo cake.

Lawn cake. )

I also spent much much quality time with my photo printer and made a scrapbook out of nearly every picture we've taken together. I filled the whole thing. It took such a long time, but it was well worth the effort.

There were a ton of other presents, but as they weren't as crafty, I posted them in my journal.

I took this from my personal journal.
It is my second attempt at dying wool...Went much better I believe.
I used the tutorial from knitty.com...thanks to someone linking it to me last time.
:)

Your mom loves tots )

If you look closely, you can see where my tub is stained from dying last weekend...haHaHa

The little white flecks on the yarn is from the thing I have it laying on. Those are just paint flecks and they come off....I didn't have anything else to hang it on...*shrugs*

I try..I try

Hi everybody,

I need a bit of help - just a few moments of thinking from your fabulous crafty brains. (and yes I looked in the FAQ)

I need coasters (You know, for water glasses and such), but I can't find any I like/want/am willing to pay how much they cost. Our apartment is Asian-style. I need them to be waterproof, cheap, and relatively difficult to break. Our home improvement store doesn't sell individual tiles so that's kind of out of the question...

Any random ideas? Theories? Thoughts?

Thanks

I know ~ Walmart is the devil...

But if you are willing to step foot in there, I saw the best moster fur in bright, neon colors. They are actually bath mats (so don't head to the craft section) & they came in zebra print or mixed colors in green & blue, purple & pink, and probably some other combinations. I checked the back of them & they just had a thin peice of cloth sewn over the back & easily removable, so don't worry about it being coated in rubber on the back.

Does anyone know of a non-toxic paint I can use to paint cat food bowls? Can it work on plastic or do I have to use it on ceramic. Thanks!
[identity profile] cydniey.livejournal.com
the paper bowls i'm working on will be meant for actual use, so i'm going to need a food safe/food grade sealer for them, and i was wondering if any of you have experience with such things and maybe have a preferred product or supplier? thanks.

My Gram is letting me borrow her sewing machine that is older than dirt (old as in my step-dad was telling me how he remembers it from when he was little), but she had it refurbished not too long ago. It's threaded properly, no problems with the bobbin catching and so on. But, everytime I go to sew, the thread come out of the needle. I checked the memories and only found stuff for bobbin and/or tension problems. Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Problem solved, thanks everyone for your comments! Turns out I just need to pull a lot more thread through the needle, and hold it for the first few stitches. It's such a beautiful machine and heavy as hell:

And so this isn't a question only entry.....here's my contribution to the June/July Sampler. Do not click if you don't want to be spoiled! )

Found this neat wooden box that has magnets in the lid and bottem half so that the lid stays on. The size is 4.75 inches by 3.75 and 2 inches high and I painted it with a dolphin :)

a friend asked me to make her a little doll based on miette (pictures)from city of lost children. so...well i did.

she is of course sculpey and wire and all hand painted. i hand-sewed her little jumper from red felt. i kinda made her legs up as i went along simply because i could not for the life of me remember what sort of shoes she actually wears in the movie. and well little mary-janes are much cuter anyways. miette is quite a bit smaller than most of my usual dolls, maybe 5 or 6 inches tall.

more pictures plus one with esther for scale )

Okay so I'm going off to a art thing this summer. It’s called “Governer school for the Arts“, I think it‘s just a Kentucky thing, but i could be wrong. Basically I get to go for a few weeks this summer and study at Transylvania college, and have loads of fun.

So......Due to the fact everyone there will be artsy and fun, i want everything i take to also be artsy. Just so maybe people can get a since of me a little bit, Plus it would be supper cool to show up with some awesome luggage. I have some old vintage hard suitcases, so I was thinking about painting starry night by van Gogh on the largest of the cases, and then maybe painting a Edward Gorey picture on the other, smaller, case. I also thought about covering them in glitter and sequins, but I'm to lazy and too broke to buy and glue on all those sequins (and i think the glitter might get everywhere).
.......I was just wondering if any of you lovely people had any better ideas of how to spice up my suit cases, and make them artsy and fun? Besides painting something on them. Or maybe if any of you had gone to a program such as this and might have some other suggestions of things to make/take that are a bit more artsy then the everyday object. Thanks, i can’t wait to hear your ideas.

Here is the dinosaur purse I made in my fashion and fabrics class. It's the purse she has people start off on, because it is a super-easy pattern to follow and takes only a few hours to make.

Hi everyone :)

I have a question about Resin. I've purchased all the materials I need to start off with, and I think I understand the basic techniques involved... I would love to make pendants that I can drill holes into to make earrings and necklaces.

My question is, what different ways are there to personalize resin pendants? I've seen some with small photos in them, or small objects. I'm stumped about how to start off! And i don't know how I'll get the hole in the pendant afterwards... I'd appreciate any hints or advice from people who've worked with resin before!!

Thanks a bunch

First off, I had a nasty ink stain on the bottom of my favorite tank top which fits my long torso perfectly, so I couldn't cut off the stained region. Instead, I whipped out my fabric paints and a cute dino sponge. Freehanded the heart because i wanted it to look asymmetric.

Then, I set forth on transforming a pair of old pj pants (that were far too short) into a cute skirt. I the lacy tulle stuff on the bottom is made from a Barbie skirt who's velcro was dead.
