This is not really a craft question but many of you have knowledge of yarn and might be able to help (and hopefully posting late at night I won't annoy too many people.) I have a sweater that is 70% acrylic and 30% nylon it is basically brand new, but acquired a horrible smell and needs to be washed. I do not want the sweater to lose its fantastic softness, is there any way to keep the wash from messing it up? Thank you!

I have pictures that I will post tomorrow of some finished stuff and some of the pop tab purse in progress

My grandfather covered my cheap, wooden desk in my studio at school with formica so that it could withstand all of the wear and tear from exacto blades and the like. However, i didnt think to tell him a specific color of formica, and ended up with white. I dont care so much about the aesthetics of the desk, but as you may know, stark white can be hard on the eyes after youve been working for several hours. So, i was wondering if it would be a bad idea to paint formica. Since i work with knives, I fear it will chip right off. any suggestions besides buying a new piece of formica?

Hello,
I have a bit of a dilemma and I thought I’d ask on this community since lots of you folks have on-line stores and what you.

I got two crafting ideas from Country Home magazine (Feb 2005 issue). I thought they were super-cute and easy-sounding so I scanned them for anyone else to see and use!

here they are! big pictures with tutorial attached! )

I think I might have to subscribe to this magazine.

This has Celtic Knotwork paper and asymmetrical graph paper that you can alter to suit the gauge of your knitting.

The sweater says it is for a 6 month old...I am not sure though as I haven't measured it and I do not have any 6 month olds to try it on.

Hi all,

Sorry for the text only post, but I'm at a loss for words and ideas and I could REALLY use some help. Next week I'm heading off to Special Camp as a counselor. Its a camp for handicapped adults. Anyway I'll have at least 3 ladies in my cabin and I am looking for some fun crafty things for them to do, and I'm on a budget. I have around 30 bucks. I might have some mental and some physcial handicapped folks, so the crafts have to be fairly easy and not frustrating. i have hundreds of craft items on hand already, so I'm rather hoping to use some of my supplies I already have.

Any ideas/suggestions? I could use the help

Thanks :)

Well after getting a casualty accident with my poor finger for my machine I took a few days off, I don't think I'll ever sew terry cloth curtains again. But, I have made my first attempt (a very bad one ) at a messenger flap jordy bag. Using some tutorials off of crafter.org. The bag itself is a B+ but the flap is about a half inch short - I have no clue why. Probably my sucky sewing straightness. But it looks okay, enough to get a pass on my knowledge of flaps - next up is pocketting - oh joy. Well, not much else to say but show the bag:

I would love to get feedback/pinions of how I could improve my sewing. It's too bad you can't see the details in the images. I'm trying to get good enough to attempt selling bags, but until then, just using up my scraps.

I am planning to make a very incredible (and time consuming) bag once I get through myy self-teaching phase. It has a lot of elements to it and I don't want to ruin my fabric yet ^^;

Does anyone have a tutorial on how to make hip scarves? The ones used in belly dancing? I have a recital coming up, and don't have a scarf, and I'm definitely not willing to drop 40-80 bucks on one. Examples (something similar but simpler would be best, as I'm a new sewer, but any are appreciated. I'll just try to simplify it myself):

well, i got the "go-ahead" from the moderator to post this, even though it's text only...

i was wondering if any of you have hosted a craft day for you and your friends. i wanted to get everyone together and have them bring all of their supplies over so we can sit and chat and make things...
however, some of my friends are craft-challenged, and i am worried that they won't know what to do/will be overwhelmed and frustrated.
should i just set out everything and let everyone go crazy with the crafts, or should i do some little tutorials to give them ideas, or what?
does anyone have experience doing something like this?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know how I might go about making a watch strap like this:

I have the watch face, I just need to know how to make the strap.

Thanks!! - Mandy

I had a look in the memories section, and i coudln't find anything on this --

I have a few tshirts that i'd like to modify -
they're either too big, or i want to cut the sleeves off without them looking like i inherited them from a trailor park.
I had a tester t on the go, and i quickly realized that cutting too much off gives you gaping holes for arms!

any suggestions on how i can cut the sleeves off of a tshirt, and maybe even turn it into a cap sleeve?

I don't want to start getting scissor happy without getting a few suggestions or how to's !
I do have a sewing machine. I just haven't touched it in awhile!

Thanks so much girls! :)

Has anyone ever painted on shoes? I couldnt find any great tutorials. I used this marker that is supposed to be used like a stamp pad for stamps, except its a marker. its a metallic gold, and i drew on some dark blue shoes, it came out neat, i sprayed a few layers of clear coat on it. I havent worn them out yet, so I dont know how reliable this will be. i have been looking for other markers that will have the same 'paint effect' does anyone reccomend a certain brand? I did find some paint pens, but they were expensive. does anyone know if these ever go on sale? Are there any other steps i should be taking, and does anyone have any shoe tutorials? If i wanted to do something like this )
how would I paste/what would I use, for the fabric? Whats the best thing to use to glue things like buttons to shoes? I tried using a glue gun, but it didnt totally stick. PS. i am mainly interested in decorating dress type shoes, not canvas material ones. Thanks!

Hello girls! I need some help, sorry the post is a "need help" one...

I'm having a multimedia project in a college exposition. Next to the computer I would like to have some free little gifts that people would take home with them, that have to do with my project. The project is called "Equilibirum - Stress vs Calm". I wanted to do antistress-balls like this ones:

I got ballons and filled them with sand, but they don't stay round and nice! So, forget that.. Then I thought sewing fabric balls, but I don't have here a sewing machine, and perhaps the sand or whatever I put inside can fall trough the sewing holes...
I thought of other thing..
The "calm" part of my project envolves Feng Shui, and one of the rules of Feng Shui is having candles at home to provide a better envyroment to your life. I thought buying those little candles and put them in fabric bags with a paper explaining those things. (I would do the candles, but I'm not at home, I'm in a city where I study and don't have all that...).

Any crafty ideas for this? What would you like to take home, a souvenir from an exposition? What objects make you stress or make you calm that I can make?
This is for monday!!help:(

I have another question! For those of you who have stenciled/screen printed, which one is better.. Which one is harder to learn, but say silk screening is hard to learn and complicated, in the long run, is it better than stenciling..or vice versus? I really want to be able to put pictures on things..and id rather it be simple, like say, i had a picture and printed it. but i think with stencling, you need to use an exacto and carve it up and that seems hard.

I need to change the hair color on a doll and dying it is out of the question. The hair is made from acrylic....thus it wouldn't hold the dye.

I have the hair I need to put on it...but I do not know what the best thing to use is.
I have twice as tacky glue and rubber cement...as well as super glue and what not.
The doll will be for a child and I just don't want the hair to come off when she plays with it.

This is the doll I am talking about:

bella is a nightclub singer by trade and a spitefire by hobby. she is the quite glamourous sort, smoking slim ladies cigarettes out of long black telescopic cigarette holders and sipping only the driest of martinis. bella rarely buys her own drinks or lights her own smokes. at any given time on a friday night one could find several handsome men waiting for bella to drip off of their arms. which she often does, at least until her drink is refilled. bella doesnt ask for things she just waits for them, and she rarely waits very long. bella is desperately searching for mr. right to wrap around her finger but is quite happy letting all the mr. wrongs buy her drinks for the time being.
