about two days ago while I was cleaning my room, I came across a bunch of two drink minimum tickets from a local venue up here (Anyone who's ever been to the rave in Milwaukee knows what I'm talking about). I didn't want to throw them out, so I made a wallet out of them since I lost mine awhile ago.

does anyone know the dimensions of the AC adapter (you know, the charger) for an ipod. I'm trying to make the readymade book carrying case thing but I didn't bring the charger. (And I can't find it anywhere!!! the size of the ipod itself is easy to find but not the dimensions of the charger.)

well ... i've been looking for the thick, sturdy iron-on interfacing (craft bond), for ages now. yesterday when i went to wal-mart, i found what i thought was craft bond ... i bought 20 metres because i use it to make the purses that i sell.

when i got home it turns out that its not iron-on interfacing ... its just really sturdy regular interfacing. so its pretty well useless to me now.

but ... i was wondering, could i use spray adhesive to stick the interfacing to the fabric? or would that just be too messy and annoying?
i hope someone else has tried this.

i guess i could use heat n' bond, but i'm hoping the spray adhesive can be a quicker and less expensive fix.

hey
i've got a paper grocery bag full of socks
yes. they're used. :P
some have holes. some are huge tubes socks. some are little ankle socks.
But they've all been washed, and most haven't been used in a looooong time because of sock eating monsters in the machines. Argh!

I'm no good with sock projects, so...
If there are any takers, or anyone with totally uber ideas, it would be greatly appreciated. w00t.

So I've seen you guys making loads of those aluminum tab-accessories and thought you might want to check this site out. It's got all these recycled products including aluminum tab bags and candy-wrapper clutches and even stuff like vases made from recycled paper. I think it's really neat. :)

How to make a paper bowl

well it took me a while but I finally got the time to write up a tutorial on how to make a paper bowl and this is what I came up with :)

How to make a paper bowl

Supplies

blender - I recommend that you use one that you NEVER want to use for food again :)
Mesh strainer- I found a great one that sits flat at Target
Plastic wrap - needed for covering the bowl and what ever it sits on until it dries
lint from dryer - (recommended but not necessary) adds stability to your paper bowl
mix of papers - recommend several different types from tissue paper, paper towels, copy paper etc... Try not to use any shiny paper or paper with a lot of type.
Bowl - bowl should get wider at the top so that you can remove the paper without ripping your bowl
Paper towels and cloth towels - you will need quite a few to try to get all the water out of the paper

Chop paper up into small ) penny or smaller sized pieces and place in warm water
(for best results allow to sit over night in water)

Put a small pinch of paper in blender (smaller amount is better but make sure you at least have 4 parts water to one part paper)

add a pinch of dryer lint to blender

Star on lowest setting on blender and gradually increase (I use about a count of three between settings unless blender is still straining to mix paper then wait longer on that setting until blender no longer has to work to blend) and when you get to the highest setting stay there for a count of 30 and then move back down the settings until it is off. (REMEMBER to hold lid on blender for entire time it is running)

check paper in blender, it should be very liquidly and smooth to the touch.

poor sludge into mess strainer and stir with hands until the paper has most of the water out of it and feels like a soft clay. Repeat prior steps until you have enough paper to cover a bowl

Take your bowl your going to use at the mold and cover it and what ever it sits on in plastic wrap (wet paper sticks to glass and just about everything except the plastic wrap :))

Start putting paper pulp onto plastic covered bowl and pat it to smooth it out, (patting it like a meat loaf works much better than trying to rub it smooth)

after the bowl is complete covered in paper use paper towels and towels to press the water out (lay them over the paper and press tightly until you have pressed out as much water as you can. (the tighter you press the less air you will have in your paper and your paper will be stronger) I personally press until water doesn't totally soak the towel
after a count of three.

Place it in a warm breezy place to dry (mine takes about three days in 80 degree weather in the sun) lol

When you are ready to remove the paper (bowl should feel dry to the touch, if it starts to pull apart stop and let it dry some more) grab the plastic wrap that has curled around to the inside of the bowl and gently tug it away from the bowl you used as a mold. Let it dry some more as it may still be slightly damp where the plastic wrap was.

If you don't like the way your bowl turned out rip apart and place in bowl of water (will fall apart very very easy if paper that is molded gets placed in water)

When ready to decorate you can use Elmers glue to make bowl stronger if needed. Paint and decorate bowl (be careful not to use a lot of water as paper is very absorbent and will want to fall apart if it gets very very wet. Paints will absorb into bowl a lot. If you find that you can't paint the bowl the way you want stop and cover bowl with gesso or glue then try painting again.

When done decorating make sure to seal your bowl and your done :)

My first stab at screenprinting! I was considering some other, more complicated designs but decided I ought to go with something pretty simple for my first time 'round;) Moose crossing!

hi.

I just bought a Chartpak blender pen (the kind filled with xylene) to do image transfers on t-shirts. before I do, does anyone have any pointers/suggestions for me? do I need to burnish it with a roller or a spoon or something after I apply the chemical? will it eat through the fabric? (that would be bad.) if so, do I wash it off or something? should I heat set it?

thanks all for any help you can give!

Hillary

OK, after some fabulous tutelage by [livejournal.com profile] chiyo_no_saru  and the websites provided by others, I tried another hat.  This time, I meant for it to be for my 4 year-old.  Here she is, modeling again.

The kitty purse is just something my mom got her during a vacation to Canada last week.  She insisted the photograph include her new purse.

This is a showing-off and a farewell to this piece. I actually made it a few years ago, but I'm selling it off (not on here! on a different site!) to help fund replacing my car. If it squicks people, I'll put it behind a cut.

It's a dove skull hairstick with a beaded cascade. The drops on the end are antique glass, and the skull itself is adorned with silver filigree. I made the display frame as well--not utterly from scratch--the frame base came from Ikea--but I painted it and added the medallion and made it all fancy. The bead cascade is anchored to the hairstick, not the skull, so it isn't putting weight on the skull. I also coated the skull in a few coats of matte clear coat to make it less fragile.

So my best friend is going away to college [TEAR!] so I'm gonna make her a going away goody bag. So far I'm working on a scarf [Seattle] & a fabric covered corkboard. I'm also including her two favorite street signs [shhh, don't tell the PD], a small sewing kit & a photo album with photos of friends.

So, what else should I include that I could make? For those of you who went away to college, what would have been useful to you?

My walls were looking a little too bare for my taste, so I decided to spruce one up a bit.
