I'm getting kitties soon! Well. My roommate's getting kitties soon. Is there anything I can make them cheap? Toys, a scratching post, water dish, A SCRATCHING POST?

This is off-topic, but I've seen many of you crafters make "duvets" a while ago so i'm guessing this community is knowledgable about beds.

So today I went shopping for my dorm and it's so confusing. I bought two packs and this is what they contain together: fitted sheet, flat sheet, duvet, and 2 pillowcases. Can anyone tell me the use of the flat sheet and duvet? Can a duvet keep me warm at night? Do I need a comforter too? Am I missing anything?

Sorry for this offtopic-ness.

I'd like to make an 'overnight bag' and I'm sure it's fairly simple, but I was wondering if there were any patterns floating around online, or one that I could purchase that you craftgrrls could recommend? The bag I have in mind is something like this:

.. but bigger. I think the one in the picture is big enough for makeup & toothbrushes, but I'd like to make a similar bag to put clothes in, and maybe even big enough to throw a couple of books/binders in there.

sometime in july, my boyfriend and i found a stack of records out in front of a store...

and i read the FAQ, and i know about bowls, and frames. and i made some of those, and i even cut them and made bracelets...but people, i need MORE ideas. (one can only make so many clocks and bowls before they lose interest, and people to give them to!)

I found these AWESOME porcelain cabochons at a bead store. I bought some small oval ones to make earrings. They also had large (1.5" diameter) circular ones--one had a matador on it. I really want to buy it, but I can't think of anything to do with it. I don't know how to set cabochons, nor do I have any of the tools, etc.
I'm just looking for alternative uses. I was able to use the small ones for earrings...but the circular one is just too big. I can't think of anything other than a lapel pin, but that seems boring. Your thoughts?

Here are the earrings I made from the small cabochons I bought:

My mom's birthday is coming up next week and I wanted to make her something out of a photo I took in Vegas, which she loves! I didn't want to do a boring frame, but want something a bit more interesting. I was thinking of maybe getting a flat piece of wood and burning it in parts to age it, then Mod Podge the photo onto it. But I've never actually worked with wood like that, so i'm not sure how that would turn out. I wanted it to be something funky cuz when it's printed, with the colors, the pic looks very vintage.

any suggestions??

I'm trying to make napkin rings. They are for a kitchen with a beach theme. I'm attaching seashells, and the such, on part of the ring. On the other parts I'd like to attach sand. I was wondering, if you ladies knew of a sealant that would allow me to do this without the sand ending up everywhere but on the napkin ring? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lab Coat?

Ok. My girlfriend is in O-Chem (silly chem majors) and has to wear a lab coat like this one.
She wants me to help her decorate/dye it.
Any ideas? I know I'm going to stencil it, but i also want to make it not-white.
It's 65% Dacron and 35% Cotton....
Will it not take dye? Any suggestions for a certian dye or process to change the color?

Also, does anyone know where I can get a stencil of hanfcuffs for another chemistry related shirt I'm making her? (Chemistry is all about Bondage.)<= it's funny because it's true.

Thank you and sorry for the text only.
I will def. post a picture when it's done though.

I've been mostly lurking on here for a few months. I figured it's time I actually post something. I bought a set of the knifty knitter looms and I made a hat... for my son... lil' dragon. He chose the colors. The blue is Lion Brand Wool-ease Thick and Quick in Navy. I'm allergic to wool... but I managed to work the bit in blue without getting too itchy. The multicolored part is Lion brand Homespun in Harvest. His first choice was actually pink.... but I talked him out of it. He gets mistaken for being a girl enough already.
happy toddler hat! )

Do you think something 88%nylon 12% spandex will dye properly? Using black RIT dye...

Thanks for the help!

Hi! I just joined and though I'm not the craftiest person in the world, I like looking at all of your stuff so I constantly come here. I figured it'd be easier to just add it to my friends list!

I made a craft today! )

I found this crappy old cement frog sitting on a step in my apartment complex, I don't know if it belonged to anybody since it wasn't on anyone's doorstep or near anyones apartment...so I took it and decided to make it look cool.

I spray painted it green and painted it with red, yellow, and white, for the Independence Day of Mexico (which is tomorrow)...

Believe me when I say it looks better in person...

oh and mind the dirty kitchen
