Does anyone have their guest room double as a craft room and a computer room? If so...how do you do it? How did you lay it out?

Yesterday I hosted my third annual ornament exchange with my crafty friends. We each had to make one ornament and bring it to the party wrapped, and then we play the pick and steal game until we all have a package to open. Lots of fun! Here are the ornaments (I made the 3 section painted ornament):

Here you can see a close up of the fimo ball and the other side of the painted ornament:

Hi, I have a large office type desk (faux wood top, metal everything else) that is very borirng and matches nothing else in my room. I like the woody bit but the gey metal is driving me insane. I am not allowed to paint it (that would be my first choice) but it needs something! I cannot think of anything to do to it, any ideas? Thanks - Lisa (Oh, if this is off-topic just let me know and i can make it vanish :P)

got bling?

hey crafty ladies/gents! i need some advice here~ ^^"

for those of you who have dealt with FLAT BACK CRYSTALS/RHINESTONES,
what kind of glue should be used?
the crystals are gonna be glued on leather/vinyl material.
+  ???

Image hosted by Photobucket.com from artbeads.com ?
on the website, they recommand E6000 Glue. would that work??

Aleene's Original Tacky Glue ?

i really need something that works WELL--
aka super adhesive, so the rhinestones will NEVER fall off!
(& keep in mind that i'm working w/ leather/vinyl)
also, when i'm working with these small rhinestones (2.6-2.7mm),
what should i be aware of?

this is my first time working with such tiny objects & i need to get the job done well ^-^"
so *PLEASE help*!! any advice is welcome ♥

..

okay, i'll show you some of my creations now ;]  )

First actual post, after awhile as quasi-lurker on this community (it's a wonderful place to simply watch for new and exciting things).

Most of my recent stuff is tracked at Artificis (blog).

But here's a thumbnail sampling, starting with my first recent project and my most recent project:

Polar fleece hats. After seeing some fleece hats with animal ears tacked to them selling for 25$, I wondered if I could jury-rig some of my own. I made a penguin hat with ear-flippers, and then I was bored and doodled things like a Cthulhu hat and a Roman Legionnaire helm... Well, yeah.

i have a question too... i didn't paint over the clay, i used the kind that was already coloured... so is it okay if i use something like clear nailpolish over it to seal the writing on the back? or is there something else i should use?
thanks :)

Text only...sorry for the inconvenience.

I was wonderin if I could possibly use any essenial oils or fragrance oils in my glycerine base instead of the scents they have at joanns and michaels. I made soaps for xmas last year and they all were a hit, but I find that the scent wasnt really there. And in the few soaps that had a scent to them, when u used them the scent didnt transfer on to u. So the bars smelled and thats it. I have tons of essential oils (I use em when I give facials) and fragrance oils (for my mist fountain machine) and wondered if that would work without the risk of burnin my house down. Any of you guys know?

Also, anything around the kitchen I can add to em to make em a little bit exfoliant? or invigorant? or anything like that?

Thank you in advance.

thanks. and happy early holidays.

Xmas cheer

I bought this unfinished wooden sign during the summer. I actualy had two of them and I was going to paint this one in my sister's school colors since she is a cheerleader, but I decided to create some Xmas cheer instead. This was just unfinished wood which I prepped with sealer, sanded, then painted with acrylics. I embellished it with ribbon and wooden Santa, gingerbread man, and stocking which were glued with Games Workshop (my husbands geeky stuff!)super glue. Not fancy but cute enough for my kitchen! (pics are crap)

I posted a week back about what to use for marking fabric. I tried a few of the suggestions and found that a chalk pencil worked the best for me.

Anyways, I ended up using it to create a pillow as a graduation gift for my boyfriend. He's a forestry major and really appreciates homemade gifts so this is what I came up with!

So, I'm just about as fed up with my sewing machine as you could imagine. I've been trying to get the stuipid thing to work for months, and it just isn't happening. I've asked for help from my aunt, who has been sewing for 40+ years, and she can't seem to figure out what is wrong with it either.

So, now here's my problem. I have a time-extensive project that I need to get started on like, last week. I'm making a t-shirt quilt for my boyfriend's birthday, which is in January.

Now, my questions: How difficult is to sew a quilt, by hand? It's obviously going to take a lot more time, and a lot more effort, but is it humanly possible to sew it by hand, make it strong enough, and make it... perfect?

Any advice and/or help is going to be greatly appreciated.

As promised, here's what I finished up last week for some of the kids on my holiday list

The doll is an original pattern, pretty much a circle, a triangle, and some rectangles all sewn together. She's for my baby neice, so everything is incorporated into the body construction (except for hair),and nothing can be choked on if she's pulled apart. I based her on the dressy bessy dolls from the 70's, where her clothes were all sewn onto her body.
The monkeys are just your garden variety sockmonkeys. :)

so this is a strange question but I figured if anyone knew it would be you girls! so I love to doodle on the sides of paper and have always wanted to do something with them. right now I'm decorating a frame of a cork board and thought I could do something with them there but the frame is only about a 1/4 an inch wide and my doodles are usually bigger than that. So I was wondering- do you girls have an idea how to make notebook paper stiff? I was thinking maybe some kind of glue but I don't want the ink to run or the paper to warp. Any other ideas how I can make this work? Thanks in advance!

Anyone have any experience making your own cloaks? I am in the process of making a wool cloak for a live-action role-playing event, also suitable for renaissance gear (though not something I'd wear to any ren faire in the summer!) We've been using just reinforced gromets with lace to tie them, which worked fine, but I am interested in an actual clasp.

I'm wondering what you use for clasps for them? I've been looking online through google searches and in the memories here and haven't found any good advice. I've also found some really expensive ones and some really cheap ones ($3-$325!), and am wondering what I should be investing in and what the pros and cons are of the different styles. Base metal or silver or brass? Hook styles? Do they ever fall apart or come unhooked with lots of movement? How much should a reaonably good one cost me, and where can I find some?

We bought a set of a dozen wool disaster blankets and turned them into hooded cloaks for our LARP group. Turned out kind of snazzy for the budget and time involved - we needed to make a bunch of cloaks in two weeks, and the set of twelve blankets was $60.

ETA: Simple cloak pictures and directions. )

I found these here:  http://www.praha.jp/html/wo_o0004.htm through a Flickr friend.

They seem to be WET FELTED bowling pins, maybe wet felted over a little wooden bowling set. I found out how to make wet felted balls here: http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel172345&contentGroup=KIDS&site=kids

but I can't seem to find out how I can cover an object and wet felt it to create this little set. I looked uder the archives that show how to cover a soap bar in felt, but not a solid wood item. Any help you can send my way is really appreciated.

this weekend i saw a little mini-sewing machine at a.c. moore for $10.
i couldn't find it on their website, and can't remember the brand name. it wasn't one of those handheld ones, it looked like a regular sewing machine, but much smaller.

so my question is, does anyone have any experience with these? i don't have enough money to buy a real sewing machine and was wondering how crappy/good these are and if it would be a waste of $10?

thanks.

I got some stuff accomplished today. :)

Two Christmas gifts.. one painting for my grandma and one for Mom. Both on canvas using acrylic and ink.

And I thought I might try putting my kiddie characters on other things besides woodblocks. I tried the beach girl out on a card today. I like the results. :) I plan to make more with different characters and put them in the shop in the next couple weeks.
