i felt like doing something creative. so i borrowed some "art-glass" from school, which i cleaved and then melted into small pearls. i cut some fingertips during the work but in the end it was worth it, the reward was a few pices of jewellery. some earrings, necklaces and bracelets like the one above.

i've been playing with digitizing software for a long time now, so i finally decided that i would attempt my first patch recently. i drew a picture of someone bellydancing, and re-drew it till i knew it would be simple enough to digitize into a small patch (not too many details).

For those of you wondering if you can scent polymer clay and how to do it, it is possible, and here's one way: knead in scented oil (I used about 10 drops for 1/4 oz. of clay) thoroughly and bake at a lower temperature (about 50 degrees less) also shaving off one or two minutes of baking time. Keep a close eye on it while it is baking as different oils react differently to heat. I used scented oil that works in both soaps and candles because it can withstand high heat. Essential oils like peppermint oil work well too and the peppermint scent came out stronger and I suspect it will last longer. I also tried this with eraser clay and tested out the scented eraser and it erases just fine. On thing to expect while kneading the oil into the clay is that it will make it softer and at fist a little gooey (some color came off on my hands) but after you knead it for awhile and spread the oil evenly through the clay the consistency goes back to that of regular clay. I hope this helps!

This bag was a complete experiment of me cutting various shapes and sewing them together. it ended up working out well and is to be my friend's birthday/x-mas present. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. & I apologize for the quality of the photos, my camera is a sack of ass.

Here is a use for that leftover fabric you have sitting around ~ fabric gift bags! & just in time for Christmas ;) They can be for any sized gift and decorated how ever you like. Sewing takes about 30 mintues to make (it's great not to have to worry about lining for once!)

I've made up a tutorial for three styles of bags ~

I have a small Christmas tree in my room and decorated it with my handmade ornaments. I noticed this morning that there was still something missing -- a tree topper. Has anyone ever made their own tree topper before and if so, what can you suggest for a small tree? Thanks and Merry Christmahannakwanzakuh! :)

I'd really like a pair of panda ear muffs. They're absolutely no where to be found. I was wondering if there was a way to go about making them? Any ideas?

Part One

hi. i started with my knifty knitter this week. i'm thrilled with it because i have trouble holding needles.

i am interested in making wrist warmers on the blue loom. i thought i could start with the provo mitten pattern, seen here,

provo mitten pattern:

http://www.provocraft.com/projects/projects.php?prdindex=kniftyknitter&dsp=project&idnum=22

am i correct in thinking that the thing to do is make these but not continue and make the top of the hand or the thumb?

what does knit flat mean? ...make the complete knitted together row? (i looked for but couldn't find a definition of knit flat.)

and what would it mean exactly to make the arm part longer and change the tops? will i be able to tell as i am doing it?

i have looked and looked for knifty knitter wrist warmer patterns, without success. if you have links that would help with these questions, i'd really appreciate them.

Part Two:

Wow. I think the Knifty Knitter instructions could be a lot better. I would like for the explanation of the outside knob on the looms to be at the beginning.

How would you improve the Knifty Knitter instructions?

Mods - if this is inappropriate - please feel free to delete.

I am saddened to say that upon returning home from a craft show last night - I had all of my PuchiMaiko items stolen (nearly $3,000 worth) from the back of the vehicle when we made a brief stop. This occured in downtown Miami on the corner of NE 3rd St and N Miami Avenue in front of the WallFlower Gallery.

I have created a small webpage that lists ALL of the stolen items. I would really appreciate it if everyone can keep an eye out to make sure none of my items appear on ebay or consignment shops when they shouldn't. I don't sell my items anywhere else other than on puchimaiko.com - so if any of these items are for sale elsewhere...they are stolen goods.

I am in the process of filing a report with the Miami Police - hopefully I'll be lucky enough to have the items turned in. I doubt it however.

The list of stolen items is here:
http://www.puchimaiko.com/stolen/index.html

If you'd like to read more about what happened - I have written in my journal.

Let this be a VERY important lesson for ALL craftsers. No matter how secure you think your items are...if you have a strange gut feeling about leavign them - DON'T LEAVE THEM! Go home first to unload THEN do what other errands you need to do. I learnt the hard way, unfortunately.

Hey! I love making jewelry, but have trouble finding much for ideas on the internet to inspire me. Are there any good websites that have any unique ideas? I usually work with wire and beads for my jewelry. Or does anyone want to share their own unique work?

Thanks! Once I get a camera that works, I'll post pics of my own stuff, I swear! lol

hats

i've been making hats, mostly for a millinery class, but there has been room to more or less do what i wanted with a lot of them. i was really sad about the little red cloche though. it's made of wool felt. i thought perhaps my aversion to wool was psychological and that i would wear this hat a lot. i tried it on and within five minutes my forehead was turning the color of the hat. so very sad. i love you little red cloche.

Again, many thanks to everyone who chimed in about where to find screw-eyes!! Most helpful, and in the end, I did track them down at Home Depot. :) Would you like to see what they were for?

Well, they were used for hangers on... )

I looked in the FAQ but didn't find anything, so I hope there isn't an obvious answer I should have seen. Anyway, I want to make my own CD storage book thing, but I don't know what the sleeve/pockets should be made of (what is that stuff?) or where to get it. Anybody know?

Here's a dress I made for a friend's opera recital. It's made of a reddish taffeta with a blue sheen to it. It's based on a Burda pattern, but I had to alter it significantly to make it the right size. IT took me FOREVER to get the sleeves right, even though they look simple.

HI I'M NEW!

Now that's out of the way.

On Wednesday I grabbed one of the dressforms in my sewing class, styled it, and took some pictures. There will be more Saturday night or Sunday, since I'll be taking pictures of the items I will be selling at Rebecca's, er, in Venus Superstar (I'll be taking pictures of them in there, better surroundings) which includes these, the skirt I am skeptical about. I'm thinking of only making clothing, etc. for the autumn and winter times. Spring and summer are not my forte.

Stockings

Dec. 9th, 2005 06:23 pm
[identity profile] sillybeaniebear.livejournal.com
My fiance's mother (who lives with us) recently got her christmas stuff out of storage and we discovered the stockings that she had bought for everyone last year. I had already bought new ones for us and personalized them, so after personalizing a couple for her husband (they're seperated) and other son, I was left with a few extra stockings.

These are the cheap ones (not a bad thing, mind you) that have the velvet-like stocking and fuzzy white top. When I was trying to personalize his dads, I tried writing on the velvet stuff, then I took another one to see if I could do a decent job on the fuzzy stuff, but I ran out of glitter glue after "Da" (Dad). My fiance's mother picked up a set of glitter glue pens and I finished up the other one. I was left with two "Dad" stockings so I decided to make up another "Mom" and send them to my parents in their christmas package.

Not such great pictures... )

I made these lolly Christmas trees at work today (I work in a call centre and being able to do stuff like this is one of the jobs few redeeming features). They’re not quite finished as I haven’t added the ribbons and possible lolly pops yet but you get the picture.

the trees I stole from willy wonker...also WARNING big pictures )
