The photo is tiny, but if you would rather it under a cut, let me know. :)

This is another pair of hairsticks for my sister, again made from bamboo chopsticks. They were sharpened, then blunted, then sanded, then painted deep brown, and then (at the suggestion of another craftgrrl, though I forget who!) brushed over with a clear sealer, for rainproofing purposes. ^_^ I wrapped the ends with offwhite embroidery thread, and threaded onto the ends are carefully chosen glass blue and blue w/brown stripe design beads, as well as offwhite and copper-colored coral beads. The bracelet is all these same beads, threaded onto silver jewelry wire. A nice little set as a gift for my sister! :)

I saw these awesome hollow clay things online today at work. I couldn't wait to get home to try it. As soon as I walked in the door I took the dog out. Then smoked a cigarette. THEN I got some rocks, wrapped clay around them and made some . . . interesting . . . things. )

It's an inlay of the character for "Dragon" (about 10 inches tall? I can't find my ruler...)

My "eensy" byzantine chain & crane pendant. The chain is less than 3mm in width. There is, in fact, a hand folded paper crane in the glass bulb pendant. (There's a dime in the pile, too. I didn't make it, though.)

HELP! I need some ideas. First, I had a photo shoot done of several ballet poses, but none of them were so perfect that I wanted to frame one for my mom. Instead, I chose 6 of them and did some creative 'treatments' to each one (i.e. my icon) and then I matted them and placed them inside one of those 4x6 photobooks (http://www.paperzone.com/catalog/product_thumb.php?img=images%2FKL100-6401.jpg&w=96&h=81)

The book is now a lovely picture book, but it needs text. What text should I put in there that won't be completely embarassing when my mom starts showing it to the neighbors?

One of my black hoodies had bleached splashed over it (carelessness with Clorox) and the unsightly spots made it unwearable. But I thought it was too damn comfortable to discard completely, so ended up painting a skull on the back with bleach and splattering some more spots on it to make it look like I meant to do it. Then I took some black paint and lettered in the 'Venture Bros.' logo. I think it looks pretty nifty now.

Lesson is: If something gets effed up by bleach and you can't fix it, bleach the hell out of it. Yay!

New scarf

A friend asked me to make a "swanky ecru" scarf to go with his peacoat. I went for geometric, which I've discovered is mostly impossible with crochet. So, question of the day - is this scarf too femine? I have a back-up plan if it is.

Hello!

So recently, I was looking through my InStyle magazine and fell in love with a few items. I went to look at the website that showed them and saw a necklace that I fell in love with that as well! However, $150 is too much for my wallet to handle on just a necklace, so I made it! It cost right about $20.I'm going to be making a belt I saw as well, but that will take a little longer.

So check it out! )

My very first ever gingerbread house! )

And while I'm here, some help on a sewing project? )

Thanks in advance!

I worked all week on these scarves! I had made the skull ones in green and pink (one of each last time) and they sold really fast, everyone was asking about them so I made some more, and in more colors! I also made some rainbow scarves. anyway, here are the pictures of what I've been working hard on all week!! =D

So I was productive last night and made my best friend her birthday gift. Her birthday is 10 days after mine (yes, we were born the same year). She requested some jewelry done in blues and greens. Here is what I came up with.

Ok, I hate ponchos. BUT, I can't deny that they are quick and easy. My daughter has a classmate with a birthday party today so this week I made her this little poncho with fuzzy like pink trim and a little cloche hat. It's a little big on my daughter who is modeling it, but should fit the classmate well.

okay guys. basically our yearbook staff is having a gingerbread house contest at our Christmas party. being the competitive people we are, the advisors and i are already planning on our design. i really want to make a castle. and somehow incorporating everyone on the staff in it. like making shields with their names or something. here's some pictures i found, but i'm not sure exactly how to make the castle itself. do i need support for everything? etc etc. tell me your thoughts/ideas/recipes!

what i'd like to incorporate

a) the shields with names/nicknames etc.
b) a moat. blue m&ms!
c) a drawbridge
d) very decorative, not just plain gingerbread
e) pretty fast! we only have about an hour or so, i'm assuming

I decided I need a cute, handmade apron thing for craft shows to keep my money in. One of those half ones. I hate sewing, so can you tell me a good site to get one? I tried etsy but they don't have much.

sorry if this isn't allowed..i looked at the userinfo and it seemed like it would be okay....its not about making something......but it is for homemade presents
my little sister made homemade presents for our cousins this year and she bought diy shrinkwrap....it says you need "glue dots" but doesnt explain further....i may be a complete moron...but does it mean just dots of glue? or something special that we just dont know about

Can I just say I love this community? Everyone is so supportive of one another. This is what I want in a group of women. Thank you!

And, just so this isn't all post and no picture, I made this felted scarf for my momma:

I thought I would ask here cause someone in this group might know, I went to plug my sewing machine in tonight and discovered the rabbit has been munching on the power cord.

its still turns on but he managed to chew through some of the copper

so does anyone know where I can get sewing machine power cords, its a huskey star and I love it dearly

So, I spent $200 on different fleece fabrics tonight, because I am making eight different no-sew tie fleece blankets for my family for chirstmas. But, before I start, I have a (stupid) question, how exactly are the knots suppose to be? There's the "tying your shoe" knot, you know, "over and under". Then there's the "loop and pull through" knot. I'm sure both are possible, and either would look fine, but if you have made one of these blankets in the past, which did you choose to use?

im making cupcakes - i need to know, do you pour the batter into the little baking cups by themselves, or do the baking cups sit in muffin tin slots? (like, i could line them up on a cookie sheet or something, or put them in a muffin tin)

thanks in advance!

I saw the Chronicles of Narnia movie and I liked it! Especially Tilda Swinton as the White Witch!

Hey you grrls (and you very few guys)
I have a public post on my journal about winter cards... I send you a nice little card, you send me a little card.
No two cards of mine are alike - I am using a vast amount of materials.. I am trying to explore all possibilities of card-making from a beginner scrapbooker/cardmaker point of view. Some of them are pop-ups, some are mini-activity type of things, some of them are just simple loving cards to wish you a sincere winter cheer!
I am going to post tutorials and pictures of most of the more advanced cards in January so that I don't ruin anyone's surprise! Visit my journal to sign up - all comments are screened!

This is my heatpack! I made it week and a half ago because my neck/right shoulder was super, super sore. It is the outter fabric and muslin.. and then inside is filled with both NON-instant rice and DRIED black beans... I pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes and voila, a lovely, amazing, heatpack.  It works amazingly.. I really recommend everyone has at least once.  They also make super cool gifts.. I am thinking of making one for a friend of mine to match a bag that she made for herself with some calico prints.  (I bought some of the same fabric to patch my pants and bought extra b/c it was on sale)  She is in love with lavender, so I will probably add some to the mix inside.

The next one I am going to make for me is going to have tea leaves and dried herbs/flowers in it for a lovely, lovely scent <3

Has anyone tried adding anything to theirs? Will tea leaves and dried flowers... do bad things when you repeatedly microwave them???

hello! amidst the yuletide cramming, i found a great "Hallowig" with a knit pattern here and i'd love to make one. the thing is, i don't know how to knit, and i don't know how to read knit patterns and convert them to crochet. anyone have any ideas how to turn this into a crochet creation? thanks! :)

I knitted a scarf this week - The first knitting project I've ever started and completed...

I didn't use a pattern; I casted on 16 stitches and I have no idea how many rows I knitted. It is brown wool. Very soft and very warm.

so i recently got a job at old navy for the holidays, and i let my brother take advantage of my discount by taking him shopping at banana republic, where i talked him into getting this awesome jacket! i love the colors and the style, and i sometimes steal it whenever i can (heh) so today when he let me borrow it for the day, i went to tall mouse to pick out some matching yarns to make a hat.
i made this with my knifty knitter again (seriously, can't believe how fast it is to make hats on this sucker!) and you can see the colors matching almost perfectly. i know the picture is a bit wonky, and i know the green is a bit off, but i can't help it. i love green! the greener the better!!

Just a few months ago, I googled screen printing and one of the first hits listed was Kristy's awesome cheap screen printing tutorial. This is how I first came to know and love Craftgrrl.

Last week was my 2nd wedding anniversary, looking to the traditional anniversary gifts, this year it was to be cotton.
My husband and I decided to make each other t-shirts.
We both bought some Old Navy t-shirts (which were only 5 bucks each!) and used the screen printing process for the first time.
The process was easy and we both adore our shirts. So much so that I decided to whip up one for our Little Face.

So I've found a couple of pattern/tutorials already, but I was just wondering what size, in your experience, works best? And I guess also, what shape do you prefer? Ok, last question (for now :), are there any other tips pertaining to making cloth grocery bags?

My first attempt at stenciling... )
