I made some bracelets tonight, you may have remembered I was asking for ideas of sealing/finishing coffee beans. I ended up just using some furniture oil I had on hand from Ikea. This may not be the best solution in the long run, but it works for now. I just haven't been up to using any polyeurythane since I can't open the windows right now (it's DAMN cold!).

Does anyone have a link to the tutorial that ready made published in issue #11 that shows how to make a messenger bag out of plastic grocery bags? or if the issue is handy, would you be able to tell me what the dimentions of the bag are? and how many bags are used? it would be very very appreciated!
thanks!!!

I've been having all too much fun the past couple days messing around with new goofy Corgi pin designs :) These are sculpted from polymer, painted with acrylic and will be coated with a durable clear finish.

So I just made a scarf, and I want to add tassels at each end.
How do I make/attach them?

So I have come up with an interesting way to wrap my records! I am planning to chop down a button-down shirt (either an old one I've got, or pick one up at a thrift shop) so that the rcord is inside the shirt, and you unbutton it to get to the records. I may also try to embroider the recipients name on the breast of the shirt by way of a tag. I've got one problem, I have a hunch that most of the shirts I can find (namely any of my old ones) will be much too large (girth-ways, not length-ways, that is simple), so could anyone give me some crash-points in making a shirt much smaller (will try to find a smaller shirt anyways). Thanks in advance!

I want to make a briefcase for a friend of mine, kind of like those old suitcases where people would put the stickers on them from all the places they visited, except for this one put small versions of all the old vintage travel posters she likes (but has no room for on the walls of her tiny studio) all over it. How would I go about doing that? If they are postcards/small photos would I do something like decoupage glue? Shellac? I don’t know what kind of bag I’m getting for it yet, hard or soft I mean, but does anyone have any suggestions?

My boyfriend and I had some pictures of our family printed to give to his mom for Christmas, so I thought I'd get a cute little photo album to give to her as well. Except the only small ones I could find were either super tacky, or very very plain, so I bought one of the plain ones(plastic with two little kitties on the front) and re-covered it for her. My "current obsession" is felt, so of course that's what I used to cover it.

I've also made a couple more (Kickandslide inspired, thank you thank you!) felt name books. I really do think I'm obsessed.

These two are for my little cousins: )

Question

Sorry it's text only.

Has anybody tried the Sakura Souffle pens? That looks interesting, but was curious what kinds of results it generates.

THanks!

well, yesterday I bought my first bottle of E6000! Exciting, I know.

I am using it to glue rhinestones to a pair of acrylic plugs that I bought for my ears. But before I do so, I have a question.

That pointy tube thingy that came with it: am I supposed to cut the top off of that? It seems awfully long and so like...lots of glue would get stuck in it if I used it as an applicator tip, right?

Can someone explain what I do with it?

So the past week has been a rather busy one. I finished the bag I was commissioned to do for my english teacher. She loved it, so i was pretty pleased despite the fact that my button foot broke this morning. In addition to this, I made my friend a hand embroidered fabric covered photo album & a wallet/change purse for my sister.

Long time lurker, First time poster!
Using this tutorial for ballet flats, I made a pair for myself! The top is polka-dot fabric from my grandma and the bottom is leftover vinyl.
This Christmas I also made all my friends Kanzashi hairclips and here is my friend Shannan modeling hers...

Wrapping

So I got my first of 4 records wrapped! I used an old stained and torn dress shirt, a teeny tiny vest, and my favourite tie which got ruined in the wash. I'm either just going to wrap it or put it in a shirt box.

I was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] howcanueatthat's car to get a little more creative with my wrapping this year. For most of my gifts I've been making fabric gift bags, some of which I screenprinted a design all over, and those have been pretty fun to make. Then I made these ~

I'm looking into buying a Pfaff Hobby 1142. I've brought my mom's New Home to its limits and it's time for me to have my own machine. I've been to the two sewing stores semi-nearby looking at machines and this one seems to be the best fit for me out of my options (Pfaff or Janome, pretty much).

Now here's where you guys come in: I've been searching for feedback on how well this machine works, customer satisfaction, all that...online and in the Consumer Reviews magazines at the library...and I can't find anything. I'm going to test-drive (and possibly buy) the machine with my mom on Friday, and I'm sure the saleswoman at the Fabric Place is very nice and knowledgeable...but I want to know everything I can about it before I close the deal, and from an unbiased perspective.

Does ANYONE have one of these? What's good? What totally sucks? Do you have to get it fixed frequently or does it just keep on trucking? Is it fairly user-friendly or is it a general pain in the ass? Anything you have to say would be most appreciated!

(In case it matters: I'm an undergrad music student who loves loves LOVES to sew and generally do all sorts of crafts and whatnot, and may end up selling my wares on the side. I do sew fairly frequently and make pretty much anything that strikes my fancy at any given time.)

Okay, by now I'm sure you're all tired of knifty knitter questions.

But I got mine and of course, I got it because I don't know how to knit and I thought it would be an easy way to learn. But.. I didn't get a book like I'm sure I should have.

So here is my question. I'm not doing hats, I've got tons of those and no one eles in my family seems to like hats, so I've been knitting scarfs, but I'm not too sure on how to tie them off, so, in non-knitting terms and maybe just a tad-dumbed down due to the fact I learn from pictures better than words, can someone help me?

I just ran the needle through my first one really quick and cheaply. But the scarf looks okay I guess.. so, please help.

I just got a Knifty Knitter and am stoked about whipping off some hats for last minute christmas gifts. I just finished my first adult hat - it only took me about 2 hours (pretty good seeing regular garter stitch with needles takes me forever). While it looks and fits like a hat, there are pretty large gaps/holes in between the rows of stitches. So when I put it on and the hat stretches, you can see hair through the gaps running all the way down the rows. The brim is fine as it is doubled over...but the rest of the hat likes cheap and drafty. (Hope that is understandable without having to post a picture.)

I thought I was using it correctly but now I am not sure. From other people's hat pictures, it doesn't appear that they have gaps. I used 2 strands of 4-ply yarn...is the secret to use thicker yarn? Am I not pulling tight enough? Did I just screw up?

Thanks and hope everyone has a terrific holiday season!

Im sorry for all the text posts. I made the record bowl and it came out good but i would like to know if you have to let it harden over night?

thanks in advance

I used to be able to embroider, even fancy stitches when I was a kid... but it's been decades since I have even tried.

I tried to pick it up again this summer, but nothing came of it... but today I've regained my knack for the simplest stitches and completed this floursack towel:

It's my third try, and I'm absurdly proud of it, even though it took me a ridiculous length of time to do.

Here are two purses I've made recently. The first one was a custom request from a University of Georgia fan. The second one I made for a bag swap on Craftster.org. It was a winter-inspired bag swap.
