Since Im making everyone there gifts this year I decided I should make them their Christmas card as well. I got the idea from Klutz Handmade Cards. The card was very simple to make because they gave you a template for it but I thought it was just too plain to just leave it green and red, I decided to decorate it with some stamps I had lying around. The garter belt was made out of some panties I dont wear anymore. It didn't take me that long to make either, about an hour tops.

So I started with something relatively easy. I want to move onto making more novelty type earrings sometime soon but this is an alright start I believe. I was just looking for some comments on what people think about them as this is a new experience for me and whether it would be worth it for me to make a few more of these. I'm not sure if people would like them.

I have gone though a ton of trouble with sewing machines... a.k.a. I bought one and the timing went off, it wan't even a very good one. But! My boy friend made it all better. He go me this...

I got a brand new Viking Sewing Machine s.200 With tons of Extras!

They were all sold out so he had to get the floor model. Since I had come into our local Joannes so many times the sewing counter lady hooked him up with extra needles, feet, bobbins, a membership to the sewing club and much more!

i've turned my poor, unsuspecting coffee table into a goldfish pond:

it's now home to seventeen paper goldfish.

So I was left home alone for a few days...this is what came of it:

Made entirely out of a huge Green Day t-shirt... )

A few days before I finished that one (though I still need to fix a few things), I got some clearance fabric. This is what I did with it. )

Thanks for looking! Crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] clothes_surgery. Semi crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] t_shirt_surgery, too.

I finished enough ornaments last minute to give to a few of my bosses/coworkers who bought me Christmas gifts. It's unfortunate I couldn't make everyone in the office an ornament, but that's how time sneaks up on ya. I made a candy cane, two wreaths (I ran out of white on the one and had to use a green at top) and a Christmas tree (which looks a little lopsided in the picture, but it's really not).

By the way, these were made by yo-yo sewing, which is making a running stitch around a circle of fabric and then pulling the thread to gather the circle into a smaller puffed circle. Then I just sewed the circles together in festive shapes and added vintage buttons for decoration and ribbon to hang.

I don't know if that title is even accurate.

I have a swallow that's made out of something I think is called chalkwear.(actually i just found that out by looking this up on ebay and some of these types of wall hangings are label chalk ware) Although the pattern is very different, this is the closest thing I could come to:

bird wall hanging

My questions are as follows:

What is it actually made of?

Is it possible to make them yourself?

If it is possible how would one do it and where would you find the molds?

Could you make a mold from an exsiting piece, and if so how does one do that?

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give me, and hopefully one day soon I can give my little birdy a partner.

And my yarn is in the basket i weeved together and everything totaly organised. Lol sorry for the odd post. but since its INVOLVEING crafts, and its a bit crafty hanging everything i thought id be nice.

So, though it's kind of a cliche...

"Long time lurker, first time poster."

The backstory: I planned and coordinated an 80s themed party for my company's holiday hootenanny. I encouraged all to dress up and was totally stoked. Until it was the night before and I realized that with all the planning, I had forgotten to get an outfit.

The result of a midnight panic. )

Apologies to the community for the text-only post, but does anyone know what happened to [livejournal.com profile] crochet?

Has anyone ever made any skeletons for the day of the dead? yes, i know it was like a month ago, but if so, what matterials have you used? Or instructions on the internet? I want to make some of those altars or scenes. As seen here: http://www.azcentral.com/ent/dead/photos/mixquic9.html or something like that.

Also here are some things I made, my first ever beadwork/wirework.

let me know what you think! )

Once upon a time there was a very trusting girl. This girl, like many others had an addiction to cute bras sold at places like Frederick's and Victoria's. One day, she ambled on in to her nearest Victoria's and cic their free bra sizing: 34B! How exciting! She thought "What wonderful news! I think that is the largest I could *hope* for!" and she promptly spent $60 on two cute balconet bras, one in teal, and the other black. A YEAR later, she decided that these bras were not all that and went to another store for their free bra sizing. Her suspicions were confirmed. 34A. "Dammit! What should I do with these ultra cute, but non-functional bras? Now that I have a new one that fits wonderfully, I could never go back to my old bras, even if they *are oh-so-cute."

Anyways, I really want to resize my old bras so that they fit. I suppose, I should just put darts in the cups. Does anyone have any hints or tips on the best way to do this? I want to preserve the look of the bra without sacrificing my new-found "comfort". I left my sewing machine in Ohio, so I'm only hand sewing now, but I don't think that's a problem, since I have such teeny boobs anyways. And if anyone has any patterns for bras from scratch, those are most welcome. Thanks!

I spent the last several hours working on making the LARGEST possible origami star (the little puffy ones- 100 = one wish, or something). I've been gradually making them bigger and bigger, and I started to stuff little gifts inside. Well, I wanted to see just how big I could make these, and how big of a gift I could put inside. So I cut out a 9.5 foot by 9 inch strip of postal paper and got to folding. It came out a great shape, after a lot of folding and refolding. I was thrilled! But it was... brown. So I was going to cover every trace of brown with wrapping paper scraps in the shape of stars.

I was starting to get sore from just sitting, cutting, and pasting. So I got up to get some coffee. My back is turned for about 30 seconds and tragedy strikes:

Yep. Not only did she smash and mutitlate, she actually started ripping off as many stars as she could.

You know, I'd be furious if she wasn't so adorable. Look at that guilty face! I can't help but forgive her. Afterall, she LOVES opening presents (Christmas morning, man does that paper fly.)- she just got a little ahead of herself.

I thought you fellow crafters with dogs/cats for soul mates would appreciate this.

(As I type this, my cat is ripping all the ornaments off the tree. Whatcha gonna do?)

From a post in the memories (i think?), I got an idea for a "Ladies Man Kit" type thing for my bf's brother (that ho-bag). Anyway, in the kit, I'd have like Axe Body Spray with a note saying "Because da Ladies Man needs to smell good for da ladies!" and so on. I was planning on putting condoms, lube, Axe Spray, mints/breath spray, and a small bottle of Courvossier (if I can find it and it isn't hella-expensive).

But I need more ideas for the kit. What else would a Ladies Man use? What else would be fun to include?

And to make this post relevant to the (sexyawesome) community, I present to you the lazy woman's solution to personalized holiday cards )

ETA: Don't look if I already told you I was sending one of these to you! You'll ruin the surprise :D

i made a neck pillow with my knifty knitter. it was an experiment that turned out really well. i did this one on the red loom, but i'm thinking of making a really big and long one with the yellow loom. it also works well for your back, or between your legs while you sleep (also for back problems)

I've got a horrible cough, which accounts for the expression here, so I whipped up a LONG skinny scarf to make my throat feel better;)

It's made with Lion Galaxy, which I found shoved in a little corner at Michaels- I wish they carried it in more colors!

i hope this is ok to post here!

everyone is welcome, beginning to advanced, modern to traditional, hobby to art!

i'm going to need a lot of help putting links up in the userinfo there for everyone. so let me know what info to add!
i don't remember what was all at the crochet community but we're going to to piece it all back together again slowly but surely :)

This is just a little thing I made for my mum this Christmas. I do photography at school so I did the prints in the darkroom- they're a little bigger than a credit card. Half of them are from a roll of film my mum took when I was really little that I found hidden in my room, the other half from photos I took on a day out with her a couple of weeks ago. She loves gardens and nature, and the old photos are of her (now passed away) mother's garden.

I just sewed like it was a flat belt, and added a strip in the middle to hold the photos in, if that makes sense. Really easy.

Sorry the photos are kind of crappy, my camera's not so good in the winter darkness!

That's it closed. It folds in from both sides, and ties with lace.

I hope this isn't against any rules, but I'd like to let everyone know about a community I just started, [livejournal.com profile] art_crochet. As the name all too obviously says, it's dedicated to the art side of crochet, rather than the traditional or strictly utilitarian side. The idea is to have a common space for people who want to create new and different things with their hooks, and go in a different direction from the scarves and afghans we all know so well.

This isn't intended as competition with other communities, quite the opposite. I encourage cross-posting, and I hope that the members of my community will also be part of several others. It's intended primarily as a meeting place, and a venue to widen the exposure of artists working with our beloved craft.

In any case, I welcome everyone to come check it out. Again, the community is [livejournal.com profile] art_crochet. I'll be happy to see you there.
