Fleece Stroller Blankets. :) My new hobby!
Feb. 8th, 2006 09:30 amThis is a gift that I just made it for a friend and will be giving it to her tomorrow when I visit her newborn son. :) I put lots of love and care into these blankets. They are a bit time consuming, but I love them and people are constantly asking me about them and have gotten commissions on them. Anyways, they fit over strollers perfectly. I will post a pic of one over a stroller. Each is one of a kind. When I buy the material, I only buy it once. That way, each person that I give to or if I end up selling it, has that special blanket that no-one else has. I like a blanket with character and these are made of fleece and have lots of character. My daughter loves hers and when she watches her kids movies, she bundles herself up in them. She also doesn't leave home without them. These blankets are awesome for folding up on Boppys for extra cushion and your baby can grow into them and it can become an all purpose blanket. These are my own designs and in the future I plan to take the designs further! I have some great ideas on what to do with them and can't wait until I can get started on my new ideas. :) I hope you like it! No-Sew Fleece is fun. I also will be making these blankets for our Local NICU.

Feb. 8th, 2006 12:46 pmAlright, there's something crafty to be done with these [photos], but heck if I can quite figure it out.
Something simple...easy...gah...
My brain won't work. I was bored last night with my camera--here's the color and black and white. Feel free, honestly, to take them. I uploaded the large size so people could use it if they want.

dying help!
Feb. 8th, 2006 01:03 pmok here's my problem. i bought a fendi bag at a thrift store- it is unused, but was obviously a display bag. the bag is dark grey, but the front is faded from exposure to constant light. looks vaguely like this one:

but it's solid dark grey colored with a black leather + metal clasp and strap. and the fabric is very soft. you can see how bad the fade is when you lift the flap- underneath is much darker. i bought it anyway because it's in such good shape other than the color. i figured i could dye the whole thing black to even it out.
now. how do i dye it? i think soaking it will damage the strap and clasp. the craft store lady suggested fabric paint paint or marker. but i'm thinking this will make it kinda stiff?
i've never dyed anything and just don't want to ruin this bag!
any suggestions?

Jones Soda Display, help...
Feb. 8th, 2006 02:08 pmI have a ton of Jones Soda bottles filled with colored water that I'd like to display lit up in some way.
Jone's sales a light box (http://www.jonessodastore.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=16175)but it costs way too much.
I have one of these: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10103&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId=52152 from Ikea. While buying more of those would be cheaper than the jone's light box it would still cost more than I'd like.
Here's my sodas hanging out on the ikea light:

Emergency fabric dying tips, please!
Feb. 8th, 2006 03:10 pmI'm sorry that my first post in the community is text-only (hi, i'm kandiss, 22, and i live in chicago. i'm into learning about messing around with furniture - sanding, re-staining, varnishing, decopauging, etc.), but i have an eeeeemergency. i'm not experienced with fabric dye and i don't want to make an already bad situation worse. i did check the memories but couldnt find anything specific to this situation.
my boyfriends favorite, favorite sweatshirt ever got bleach stains on it. its a black sweatshirt with a screen printed design that is also done in black. so its all black. what is the best way for me to go about fixing this? i have heard that RIT dye fades and does a number on the washing machine so i'd like to avoid this one...other people in the house use the washing machine and they dont want black clothes, i'm sure. so, should I:
spot treat the fabric with a fabric dye and wash it using the directions on the bottle?
dye the whole thing with a fabric dye (because the screen print is the same color as the shirt)? will this make the bleached sections still look lighter than the rest of the shirt?
paint the area with fabric paint? i don't want it to be stiff...
any help you could offer would be greatly, greatly appreciated. and i promise that my next post will be full of vibrantly stained furniture and glitter table-tops and pull down shades with naked ladies painted on them. i promise!

dying fabric
Feb. 8th, 2006 05:11 pmI have a question about dying fabrics. I upgraded to a new larger sized bed recently, and a friend gave me all her old bed linens. It's a bunch of high quality, expensive stuff, that was very gently used and still in fantastic shape, and I'd like to use them since all I can afford for myself is the cheapy scratchy sheets. The problem is that my bedroom is a deep raspberry pink with dark woods and orange and red accents, kind of an indian sari influenced color scheme. And most of the sheet sets and duvet covers are very pale celery greens and totally clash with my decor.
I figured I could just dye them darker since they're so light colored, but I've honestly never dyed anything before, and I'd be a little bummed if I ruined such nice stuff because I was being picky about color. They're all just high thread count cotton sheets, so I should be able to dye then with RIT dye or something right? Any suggestions would be appreciated because I've got about 5 complete sets, and NONE of them match my room at all.
EDIT: I should add that I'm a graphic designer and already know lots about color theory, so I'm not so worried about trying to make green into orange and ending up with something terrible. I figured I might try a dark pink or burgundy on the lighter fabrics, and a dark chocolate brown on the darker green ones. I mostly just need to know if fabric dye will work for this type of thing, and any pointers on how to use it and things like that. The color part, I've got. :)

Feb. 8th, 2006 07:50 pmGoing way back to this entry, I have had the idea of making a patchwork blanket or a quilt going through my mind... I took pictures of all the fabrics I bought for it, put them through mspaint and made up this little layout - with the sizing all to scale and such

then went and made a few adjustments and cut everything out.. put it all on hold for a few months UNTIL THIS WEEK! i did the patchwork! :-)

ta da! i am going to be making it bigger.. i have extra pieces of some of the fabrics and i am gonig to incorporate a few new ones in.. i am really proud... i can't wait to start quilting it!

does anyone speak french??
Feb. 8th, 2006 09:28 pmSo I'm making Marie Antoinette dolls for a "history in squids" line and
I wanted to have one accessory that summed up what people most
associate with the figure.
here are the "maries":

I want to make a cake that says "for the peasants" in french and although I took many years of french nothing ever sank in. I transalted it on babelfish but I just want to make sure that it's "pour les paysans" before I embroider it on mini cakes. Can anyone verify? It would be much appreciated!!
