Hi! I'm new here, so far it's been awesome seeing people's projects and getting lots of ideas. Right now I'm just sorta crocheting aimlessly, hats and scarves that will probably end up getting dropped off at the homeless shelter. Here's a roundup of some other projects I've finished in the past few months...

Next up in the series of craft projects I create for the kids section of Starwars.com:
Make Your Own Yoda Felt Doll

It's easy to make, plus it's fun! Just print out the pattern made by our own Star Wars How to Draw artist Cat Staggs (aka [livejournal.com profile] gatodama), and follow the instructions!

Really really simple craft. But I'm disproportionately proud of the way it turned out.

I have been feeling uninspired, so rather than study for my midterm i created a largish patch as a homage to my mister Mayo.

I have a red shirt that has been faded in the front due to being in the front of a bookstore window.

I would love to tie-dye this red and white... Could I use bleach to do this? Or should I get some Rit-Dye in white (if that exists)?

Also, when is it safe to throw in with regular colored clothes after tie-dyeing?

And just so this isn't text-only... )

Thank you!

Hola peoples!
I was looking in memories, and I found the rose beadmaking posts. I was wondering if you have to use roses? Or if you do, can you use dried ones?
Because I have dried roses that I have no idea what to do with.

Thanks!

so my friend's sister had to hit work early, and i got the *joy* of watching her 4 year old daughter for a few hours. in that time, she insisted i crochet an outfit for her Polly Pocket doll.
i've never crocheted clothes before. much less tiny, doll-sized clothes.
...but i think i did a good job... )
[identity profile] hgflower.livejournal.com
so if this ends up being a double, i'm very sorry!
anyways, i just wanted to show off my finished altoid tin for the swap on craftster :) i just sent the tin away in the mail today, so i can't help but post what i made here while i wait for polkadotgraffiti to get it!

soo, BOTH pairs of my favorite jeans have ripped RIGHT up the crotch/butt (this morning the second pair ripped right before my first class O.O)
is there anything i can do to save them? maybe sew up the seams and reinforce the hell out of it, or would it just rip again due to how worn the jean is? any ideas work, thanks!

also: where do you guys get those half-sphere black eyes for stuffed animals? i jsut want plain old solid black ones. they are so cute!

I'm actually going to my very first Stitch & Bitch tomorrow night. Though I have a few projects in progress or that I need to do (I took on too many scarf projects for Christmas and had to tell some people I'd get them to them eventually), I bought some special yarn today...to finally make a scarf just for me. It's also the first time I've bought some especially nice yarn from a specialty fiber shop. My friend and I met at one today to pick out yarn for our S&B projects.

At the shop I saw a chain-linked scarf that inspired me to try something similar. It was somewhat like this scarf I found through Google images, from www.jennycheck.com/ (image hosted on my Photobucket, though).

Here's the yarn I bought for my project.

pretties )

Yarn on the left is Artful Yarns Broadway in "All that Jazz". It is 59% acrylic, 28%mohair, 6%polyester, 4%metallic, 3%nylon. The yarn on the right is Crystal Palace Yarns - Merino Frappe in "new sage". It is 80% merino wool and 20% polyamide.

Now it occurs to me that these yarns could be really fun to freeform with. I'm new to freeforming and I still don't know a whole lot about crocheting in general. But the way I see it in my mind is a random assortment of chains, single stitches, double stitches...mostly keeping about the same width along the sides of the scarf. Instead of the chain link.

I'm looking for opinions on which project to go with. I've got other projects to work on tomorrow night if I don't make up my mind and I can even ask the girls there what they think. I think most of them knit, so I'm not sure if they'll understand what it might end up like freeformed.

I appreciate any input!

Oh, if it helps, I'll probably be using a largeish hook...I adore my P sized hook and enjoy open, airy type stitches I can make with it. Might alternate with my K or somesuch...I've misplaced a lot of my hooks since I've only just recently caught the crochet bug again. I might be able to find another size or two before I get started, I dunno.

I just can't decide if I want to do the chain linked scarf or try freeforming with this lovely yarn.

Mix ad-laden rich-lady magazines, cardstock and severe boredom, and several hours later you get:

A beautiful necklace! I glued the pictures to the cardstock, cut them out with an exacto knife and sharp scissors, poked holes in them, and connected them with links from a chain.

so for vday my dorm floor has a valentine exchange like we used to do in 2nd grade (with decorated paper bags and candy and what not). Now I have all these little cartoon valentine cards and I don't know what to do with them. What should I do?

I have a goal to do every type of craft thats out there, to one day hold the title of Craftmaster.
Last week, I decided to try some bead embroidery. I`ve always avoided this in the past, as those tiny seed beads drive me crazy. So hard to hold, and lose. Gah.
But I have no fear, so I decided to make an elaborate shirt with my first (and only) attempt with tiny seed bead embroidery.
This shirt took me probably 10 hours. Never again...

But I love it! It`s so pretty and whimsical and comfortable even!

Hi. This is my first time posting and I come with a question. I figured since everyone here is really creative, this would make the perfect spot.

For my dance recital we are doing a song from CATS. We are making our costumes and some of the girls want cat ears. How would you suggest making some? They need to stay in our hair (our hair will be pulled back into a bun) since we are doing tumbling so it can't just be a regular headband. I figured whatever it is I could just wrapped in some type of "fur" and then add stuffed felt as the ears.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the "headbands" or even better suggestions to make them?

And one more question, any suggestions for props? We are looking a garbage cans but then we are stuck on what else we can use and tie into the dance.

Thanks!

Ockham's (Straight) Razor.
It's a fully functional straight razor (believe me, it's sharp) with engraving on it. Unless you take proper safety precautions (like taping the sharp edge, etc) please don't hand engrave razors.

Addendum: It's not misspelt. I've not gotten the wrong information. There are, in fact, two common spellings of William's name. He is actually "William of Occam/Ockham" with the former variant the more common form and the latin spelling. I deliberately chose the other one because it came out much better in the calligraphic font.

Take a closer look )

I have a piece of my favorite t-shirt that seemed to decide to rot and fall aart. I managed to save the picture of Goku from Dragon Ball Z, which is the reason its my favorite shirt.
So now I have this rectangle piece of fabric.... what do I do with it???
I thought of making a pillow,... but I have made rediculous amounts of pillows and I need a new quest. Any kicks in a new direction??

Ps: I will not post the results as I still don't know how to post pictures ... and probably never will until someone holds my hand through the whole process.
My sincerest of apologies and sincerest of thanks for the help.

Craft on!

Thanks :)

Hey there craftgrrls!

I wanted to say a big thank you for informational posts in the memories and answers to questions I've posed here. Back in December I was looking to buy a sewing machine for my crafty boyfriend, and I wasn't sure if I should go used or new, or what to look for, or what would be able to meet his needs. You all helped me figure out the answers and it worked great. :)

I ended up with a used early 1980s Singer, old enough to have almost entirely metal parts, and it does everything he wants. It even sewed through double layers of wool and microsuede on the winter cloak he just made - like it was nothing at all. He's very happy with it and I get to feel like a smart and thrifty crafter. So thanks!

I'm about to come into a large number of LPs (aka records, vinyls, etc)

And I want to do something OTHER than make bowls with them or stencil on them. Oh, and I don't have enough earrings to facilitate making them into an earring holder.

Any suggestions from my fellow craftgrrls?
